The latest Necron releases are a massive disappointment considering the time Necron players have waited for releases and balanced rules for the 6th
edition. All GW needed to do was make pariahs, immortals, tomb spyders and flayed ones into a plastic kit along with a customisable necron lord kit. A plastic Heavy destroyer would have been appreciated. Perhaps even a Heavy support vehicle or possibly another monstrous creature (the tomb spyder being one). More C'tan with more characterful stats would have been great also.
Instead GW gives us praetorians which could not be more uncharacteristic of the Necrons. The new gauss weaponry such as the immortal gauss blaster is now a bar painted black with green lines instead of the famous green rod for which necrons are so well known. This offsets the new gauss stuff with the necron warrior, monolith and destroyer kits. The new warscythes further deviated from the venerated green rod and look utterly unoriginal next to pwer weapons. The bodies of the new Necrons look to me to be too bulky which gives them a cartoon look and not the sinister skeletal form i so love. The new Vehicles are too complex in design to look as though they are flawless technological ancients, a look the simple monolith pulls off. To sum up, it seems Mat Ward (author of the new Codex) saw Necrons as a representation of Tomb Kings (another badly done job) in the 41st millenium when in fact Necrons well preceded Tomb Kings. Therefore he ignores the groundwork Kelly and others made in the 3rd edition Codex. It seems Necrons are moving from their Tomb Worlds into full scale assault on the galaxy and this is reflected in their now larger and more diverse Army list. Necrons, for me, were about technological perfection and perfection isn't diverse. The whole point was that they were awakening from their Tombs, not yet at full strength, yet even so their technology still won over. The technology they could employ in a full assault on the galaxy wasn't the point, because left to the imagination it seems more wondrous then now that its been levelled with the other Armies in thje latest Codex. Please tell me i'm wrong.

Always tough when GW gives you 100% more units with new models when they could have kept everything the same.

Yeah, and making soulless skeletons in Egyptian cloths, raising from pyramid shaped tombs, into mummies is totally absurd

Hello wall of text, what up

So let me get this straight. You're complaining that Necrons have, to quote you, "a larger and more diverse army list" and saying that's a bad thing? Right. I'm not buying that. The army's getting character beyond "walk in a straight line and hate things" and for that I'm thankful. Necrons were always so goddamn bland that I got bored playing against them in almost every single game. I welcome new units, new designs, and new fluff because they didn't have much of anything before now.

Oh no! Change is scary!!! New units and models are scary!!!

Damn you GW for giving the necrons a complete re-release!!

Why didn't you just give us the same codex...without phase out!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Games Workshop and Mat Ward for actually putting effort into making a bland army unique!.....

In all seriousness though...GW gets way to much flak for giving the community what they wanted....a new Necron Codex...and at the same time you have all the Necron players complaining about fluff rape...like it hasn't ever happened to any other army before....

I guess stating 'please tell me i'm wrong' would instigate such a response and some strong arguments have been made however my irritation at GW
is not that they've chosen to release new units which were absolutely necessary, but that they've done so in a way that is too much an infringement on Tomb Kings and
not on the small but excellent background the 3rd edition Codex layed down. The loss of the tomb spyder is particularly irritating as all Necron players will recognise the tactical significance in 3rd edition Necron armies. Why should GW dump great units when they could include all the old units and make an even larger army list that retains the classic Necron feel?

Tomb Spyder is still in the book, mate. I don't know why your panties are in a bunch about Newcrons, but they shouldn't be. They look fine, fit the fluff, and it's nice to see them actually try something different with the Necrons, instead of making them Blandy McBlanderson.

Is it that difficult to understand that not everyone likes the new Necrons ? The fluff was completely changed, the new direction is just as bland and generic as the old ( one could say it is actualy much worse, depending on your taste ) and even some of the new miniatures look questionable at best. That other armies suffered from a massively changed fluff ( Grey Knights fluff got so bad that i actualy stoped expanding my GK army ) is no excuse to simply swallow the current changes ( at least not if you don't like them ).
The old Necrons had a distinct style ( both fluffwise and miniaturewise ) which was liked by quite a few of their players, to assume that those people would simply accept a radicaly changed new style with no complaints is pure idiocy.

Games Workshop gives people what they wanted...a new necron book...and people complain. The necrons always looked kind of "Tomb kingy" to me, so the new models fit in really well with what the necrons already had. If you don't like the new necrons that much, just play a game using all the old models, perfectly legal, and I would assume pretty competitive actually. The fluff from what we have seen, is fine...but we won't know all of it until the codex drops.

On top of all that, I'm getting annoyed with all the Necron complaint threads already...

To the posters point. I can understand the concept of perfection and that being a singular purpose however, what if perfection is defined in diversity?

Simple example is 2 of the 3 new units. The old edition we had immortals with T5 and gause guns that were assault 2 and somewhat over costed. So now we have 3 versions of immortals, 1 with a standard gauss weapon reduced to rapid fire but retaining the ability to ding tanks. 1 with a tesla weapon that is assault 1 but now can yield extra hits so somewhat retaining the anti-personnel role. Finally a 3rd with a sniper rifle that has rapid fire capabilities. Thus having the ability to ignore toughness and just cause wounds regardless. All of these at a reduced cost. Now you could make an arguement for the old version being the embodyment of your concept of the "perfect" warrior but now you have the option of making your "perfect" warrior to focus on what you need in your army.

I am waiting for the book and aside from some questions, I am thinking of making a necron army around a core of tesla-armed immortals and then filling in with others as needed. I rejoice in the choices as this will prevent the army becoming stale.

Yeah, he sucks and so does the ship that can be turned upside down to make it a gun shp. Yeah, I was thinking of making a necron army until I saw that gem.

And looking at the model's face, I'd like to say that he looks like an angry marine. I just need photoshop to make a quote above his head "I is unhappy."

Actually this is not a new miniature but a Finecast version of classic Necron lord.
Hopefully new Necons don't look like that.

I can only dream that someday Eldar can get such a "disappointing" release.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

While I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion I do disagree with the OP. However I do agree that he could do with some lessons on how to space his paragraphs out.

In my opinion the new necrons are great looking especially the Immortals. I do think it's slightly lame that the green rods have been replaced on some of the new models but it shouldn't be hard to replace them with the originals.

I haven't kept up on the rumors but I did go through GW's site and didn't see any wraiths? Are they no longer going to be in the necron army?
