Whenever i go on Gamesworkshop's website i see tons of articles for every race but the Tau, and it makes me feel like no one really gives a gak about Tau. I remember I kept hearing Gamesworkshop was going to release the new Tau codex in July but it never happened. Not to mention that the Tau have the least amount of units besides the Sisters of Battle. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Their codex is now the oldest, if you consider the abomination that was the SoB WD update a codex. Therefore there isn't much news concerning them, they don't sell as well and most subjects concerning them have been done.

You and almost every Tau fan agree with you. Along with SOB and the others GW have decided to forsake after stopping the creation of articles for all races completely making the site a giant catalog, meaning White Dwarf is one of the few places you'll find rare Tau articles and its also another catalog.

Codex: Black Templars was released in 2005. Codex: Tau Empire was released in 2006. Just thought I'd leave this here, but since the Templars are Marines they deserve to be ignored for a while, yes?

They seem to ignore anyone who isn't a SM, but I don't think the tau have it the worst. They have a massive collection of forger world models and there own imperial armor book.

I also wonder, Do tau reall sell the least? They aren't the most popular, but they are hardly the least popular. People talk less about the eldar then they do about the tau.

This is why dakka needs a meta-poll for player races, that keeps going for years. We'll never have the numbers for who collects what army, but with a poll spanning a few years we could get a pretty good idea.

Then, pray tell me, why? I don't want to play any other marine army, just like those playing the Tau don't want to play Eldar (well, they might, but you get the point). Why does Blood Angels being up-to-date mean that the Black Templars "deserve" to wait? I'd love it if the Tau received a new Codex, out of all the current armies they deserve one the most, but I can't stand the constant contempt for marine players that gets flung around. Does the fact that most of the marine Chapters have many units in common mean that a marine player can switch Codex if he or she wants to? Yes. Does that mean that said player is interested in doing so? No.

We've had FOUR Marine updates so far this Edition. Your Black Templars could wait. Not that it matters, since it's likely the next codex anyway.

And, again it's the "but there's other, similar armies!" argument. Did you read through my entire post? Not that I disagree, mind you, we can indeed wait, but why must being a marine Codex equal "meh, they can wait"? THAT is what I want to know.

I'm hoping that Orks get left alone a while. They aren't due an update for a bit yet, and i like the current codex, though it does have a couple of issues.

Well maybe the Tau are on the Standard Que Update Army Template Schedule.

Haha, it might not, but that doesnt mean you couldn't alter one of those other Space Marine lists to count as a Black Templar force if you wanted too. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a Black Templar Army, and it would have access to an updated codex.

The Tau don't really have an equivalent that they can count as. Unless I'm missing something.

Just my reasoning.

Could run them as counts as Eldar. Hammerheads as Fire Prisms, Fire Warriors as Dire Avengers, Broadsides as Wraithguard, Etheral as Farseer (with advanced Tau tech working as psychic powers), Devilfishes as Wave Serpents, Stealth Suits as Fire Dragons etc. Does this sound unappealing? Stop whining, you have the option! (Now that I think about it, this could actually be a really workable idea...)

Because the Marines shouldn't have that many codices to start with. Some of the Ultramarine fluff in the Space Marine codex could have been cut out, leaving enough room for customisation options to use Blood Angels, Black Templars and Space Wolves, and without having two codices full of wolves and vampires. The differences between the armies of Chaos should be far larger than the differences between those of Marines following the codex astartes, but Chaos manages with one codex. (Of course, we're marines too... damn.) Seriously, would it really take more than a page of two to set down a few special rules and units for those three armies within the C:SM?

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

The option to play with a Codex that came out in 2006? Yes, the Tau and the Eldar came out in the same year, so you could play a counts as army as the Eldar. The Black Templar have the option to play with a Codex that came out in 5th that look exactly like them, and like you said, share a large portion of the exact same units.

It could be a workable idea, and now I will have to look into it; however, that doesn't chhange the fact that the Templars shouldn't get an update before the Tau (and the Eldar, too)

I am answering your question with evidence contrary to your opinion, not whining. Please, for the sake of good discussion, recognize the difference.

Yeah Tau are probably next to be updated. They might be neglected, but hey, cut them some slack, I bet it's not easy to keep -everything- nice and balanced... I sure as hell wouldn't be able to do it.
IoM might get most attention, but that's where GW gets the majority of its money from :O Everyone wants "those blue guys" *headdesk*

Still, not that I mind, neglected or not, Tau are awesome!!!

Tau don't have it so bad.
Dark Eldar had to wait 12 years for a new codex.
Tau have only been waiting 5.

While I don't argue they need it and I'm starting a Tau Army, just patience good things come to those who wait. Like an obscene amount of poison weapons. and venoms. love venoms

But yeah - I'm sure when they get round to it Tau will be shinier.

Why do so many armies have to be neglected for so many years? There has got to be a way to pass out new units and models in between codex updates. Well there is kind of, Apoc added quite a few units for everyone. Maybe they could do more books like that.

Personally I wish they would leave updates and expansions to FW, I have always enjoyed their designs and ideas, and the fluff they write is pretty well done as well, let GW lay the foundation and allow FW to publish expansions during the time between editions, they have sort of done this, but possibly something in a slightly more affordable framwork, and official for all the competitive types out there.

But such is wishful thinking.
