So I've decided to make a space marine army, using FW inquisition bits and grey knight heads on normal marine bodies.
The problem is coming up with a color scheme. Black armor seems daunting to do well without highlights looking like white.
Any ideas?

Red seems to be a popular color, given the Red Hunters' and Exorcists' ties to the Inquisition.

Yeah, they're pretty simple schemes but I'm guessing they'll take well to blinging up. Red Hunters I'm sure would work well with GK/ FW bits. Exorcists too maybe, and I know Chapterhouse makes some Exorcist shoulderpads that are pretty decent quality. I've got a few myself. If you're REALLY interested in the Exorcists, check out Space Corsair's greenstuff blog for some work in progress stuff.

Do you find that the CHS exorcist shoulderpads look to big on marines? The few pictures I've found of the normal power armor versions mounted on regular marines look incredibly huge personally. The extra size actually stopped me from ordering them.

Maybe even have a little bit of a Deathwatch theme to it, and have marines still wear their chapter shoulder?
As far as colors go, I always thought red and grey would look nice on SM's, Not the blue-ish SW grey, but more of a...well, gray gray...

You could also use bone/cream/white - as a colour that symbolises purity. Or even have that as an armour colour for "special" marines. Officers in white, sergeants with perhaps a white helm and/or their right arm and pad. Perhaps lower greaves, chest, etc progressively. The more white armour you have the more notable actions/purity you've shown.
The concept also works well with any other colour such as red as the main army colour, as the aspirants slowly have their armour turn white.

You mean like Deathwatch or the Grey Knights which are the ordo militant of their respective =I= branches? Or the Red Hunters and especially Exorcists who have very close ties to the inquisition? Epic fluff fail on your part. If it doesn't make sense, it's because you apparently have no clue about the existing fluff.

I do agree that was a little harsh, but it is very basic fluff. But a simple mistake that everyone should be able to politely correct. Remember this is a friendly site where we help each other with things, not bash people.

To be fair to warboss, he was replying to a rather derisively worded post towards the OP. Red Hunters and Exorcists might be obscure to some people, but Deathwatch and especially Grey Knights should not be surprising to anyone at this point. Rudeness begets rudess, as you would know.

If he is ignorant about the topic discussed, he shouldn't be responding with snotty one line posts saying that the thread "don't make sense lol". You should get off your high horse as you're defending a troll that doesn't deserve it.

I am not defending anyone, people dig their own holes, I am pointing out a fault that I have seen with the dakka community, quick to criticize, slow to praise, and eager to flame...So if me pointing out a fault is a "high horsed" act, then you may want to take a moment yourself and step down from those stirrups and tether your horse for a bit and take a walk among the "common folk"l.

With your initial sarcastic references to "wealth and richness of dakka", living "in a bubble", and "devoting all my waking hours to studying" fluff... you fit your proposed dakka profile perfectly then. Either way, I'm done discussing it. @ OP: So what did you decide?

Fighting along side the inquisition, doesnt mean that your part of the inquisition, Red Hunters are still a space marine chapter lol they arnt part of the inquisition. Same with Exorcists who have ties to the inquisition, but they arnt part of the inquisition. Its not an epic fail on fluff by my part, its you who cant understand that fighting alongside something doesnt mean that your part of it.
I found it some what humerous that someone was making a Space Marine Inquisition army, because space marines that are part of the inquisition are called Grey Knights.

O well , If anyone has colors for my Inquisition Imperial Guard army let me know! Read what I said and you don't have to faux refute anything. I said the Hunters and Exorcists have close ties to the Inquisition, not that they're a part of them; it's in a separate sentance from the Death Watch and GK for a reason. You asked why space marines would be a part of the inquisition and I gave you two examples of them part of it and two examples of chapters with close enought ties that they use =I= symbols on their armor. Also, if you read the HH books, space marines loyal to the emperor from the legions that rebelled were a founding part of the inquisition. Finally, he never said his army was an actual part of the inquisition but only mentioned using their bits and GK heads. You chose to jump the gun on that and then refute it (much like above). As for the IG, the red/black/gold/silver colors in the old daemonhunter codex always looked cool IMO, especially on the vehicles.

Warboss has it right. I never said they were going to BE the inquisition. They are simply using the =I= symbols and grey knight heads.
And yes, I will be using the Red Hunters. Any ideas on where to get =I= decals?
I don't think I'll do them in Blood Red though. I think Red Gore with Blood Red highlights will do nicely, or I may airbrush a soft gradient with the 2 colors.

Forge World, actually.
And that "red gore" is what FW suggested to someone who was doing Red Hunters.
You'll get enough Red Hunter transfers to do 50 Tactical/Scout sized infantry. There's also Inquisition sigils.

You've got several options for decals and their substitutes. Forgeworld makes thin brass etching that mimics the raised details you'd find on models more than decals.
Sisters of Battle used to have a decal sheet but they're very hard to find on the secondary market. That would be your best bet for official decals.
Otherwise, third parties have made some decal sheets if you're adventurous enough to make your own decals (I'm haven't tried it yet).
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2007/07/tutorial-custom-decal-sheets.html
Somewhere on BOLS is the image file for free download for the actual sheet you see in the pic but I couldn't find it at the moment. Hope that helps! Those were the ones I found when looking for the same thing for my aborted GK army in my sig.

Sisters of Battle decal sheets have a ton of =I= symbols on them in various sizes, in white, red, and black. I suppose they're largely out of place on those sheets now too. Forge World has the grey knight etched brass symbols, too. And there I get doubleninja'd while I found my SoB sheets. Ouch.
