Black Templar; Sword Brethren Assault Terminators, 7 POLC terminators with Furious Charge, all in a LRC , quite expensive @ 566 points, but well worth the 28 power weapon attacks, all refilling hits and wounds on initiative 5 and at str 5.

Best is a very subjective view. I view best as the 'most powerful per point' unit.
Vanilla Marines : TH/SS
Space Wolves : Grey Hunters
Grey Knights : PsyRiflemen
Ork : Shoota boy
SoB : DCA
IG : Chimera Vets
Eldar : Fire Dragons

As an imperial guardsmen, i would have to say that the best unit would be chimera vets, but the platoon squad comes in a close second because the power blob style of play.

Ork Admiral Kroozin Da Kosmos on Da Hulk
|
Orks is hands down the big mek with KFF. Mandatory for almost every single army build.
|
7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

IG - it's not vets in a chimera or a vendetta. Vendettas are nice (but aren't proper transports), and vets are neat, but fragile and can only do one thing.
The best unit in the guard codex is probably the company command squad.
- they give buffs out to other units.
- they screw with the metagame (with advisers).
- they can be kitted to handle any situation (whether with a lascannon and MoO and 4x plasma, or with straken, 4x meltas and a priest).
- they're pretty cheap (especially as HQ choices in other codecies go).
After that would probably be the infantry platoon as it does all of the above with the exception of the metagame (though if you bring al'rahem...), then followed by the vendetta for the sheer killy power.

They don't all have power weapons, they have rending which makes them better at killing tanks and less effective at killing heavy infantry.

Ork boyz are pretty damn good, specially because of their cost. Really a pretty good stat line for 6pts. And they can surprise people with what a blob of them can take down.
But Im also torn with the KFF Mek. Such a fantastic HQ, and the KFF is the tits. So really, you could say either of those, and Id agree.

IG:chimera, yes a transport is a unit itself. Or I'll say rambo if I am allowed named characters.
BT: typhoon, just too cheap.
Orks: mek with kff, it saves its points worth.
BA: priests, they buff stuff well beyond the points cost.
Vanilla:Librarian, nothing he can not do.
Space wolves: Long fangs or Grey hunters.
GK: rifle dreads. Though partly this is as they are the major supply of ranged attack for the army.

Necrons: Crypteks (specifically, Harbinger of Destruction: Str 8 AP 2 36" Assault 1 for 35 pts.)
Space Wolves: Grey Hunters (point-for-point my pick for best troop unit in 40k.)
Blood Angels: Mephiston (Str 10 every turn, re-roll misses every turn, and he can fly.)
Tau: Broadsides Battlesuit (TL Str 10 72" range. The beat anti-tank in all of 40k.)

For the Armies I play:
Eldar: Farseer, for sure. Eldrad is even better. The lynchpin of Eldar armies right now.
Tyranids: Tough one, between Tervigons and Hive Guard for me. I'd have to give it to Tervigons though. FNP Batteries, 6T 6W Scoring troop choice, and creates more Troops. It also buffs nearby Termgaunts depending on the Upgrades you take. An Excellent unit overall.
Necrons: Jury is still out, but I would have to give it to the Scarabs for now. They seem to do well in everyone's list, and are great at several different tasks.

Armies I play/have played (mostly have played).
CSM: Most people will say Obliterators or Plague Marines. But i've got to say the Daemon Prince, yes there big targets, easy enough to take down but I still have quite a lot of success with my Daemon Prince.
Nids: Tervigon, its either that or Hive Guard, but Tervigons are just unique and very good all round.
C:SM : TH/SS Assault Terminators. Very killy, hard to take down.
Orks: Ork Boyz, yes there are tougher units in the book, but without the Ork Boyz, Orks would be nothing.
SW: Grey Hunters, great all round troops unit, you can give them as little or as many upgrades as you can afford, and they will do a great job.
Eldar: Farseer/Eldard. Best Psykers in the game still in my eyes. Without these Eldar just aren't very good.
Daemons: Didn't use many Daemon units myself, but I would say Feinds are very good.

Agreed, Black Templars terminators (of both flavours!) are probably the best we've got. Mind you, we do pay a symbolic sum for the veteran skills, so they're not "free" per se.

For CSM: The Dreadnought, because your opponent wants it to live almost as much as you do, just in case it decides to take out a handful of plague marines.
For Tau, Farsight - the only Power Weapon in the book.
For GK, the OM Inquisitor with a Pair of daemonblades, the closest unit you're going to get to a slot machine - mostly useless, but once in a lifetime he's a 10 wound eternal warrior that makes half a dozen ID attacks.
For Necrons, it's got to be what's his name, the guy from grand theft tank - not because he's a good unit or anything, but because he's so damned disrespectful. For a few minutes, he'll take over your weapon-destroyed rhino, even though it's not going to do a damn thing, just because he hates you.

They're 40pts, the same as regular SM termies. They then don't have to pay for the special rules because they're free as a result.

Apparently you are able to take 2 daemonblades because you can trade out more than one weapon for one, so drop your hand weapon for one and your bolter for the other, you can only use one a turn though obv
