For ig it has to be the company command squad. It buff, debuffs, mess with reserves, plus allows go to ground shenanagans.

Second would be the infantry platoon. So much killy power, extremely flexible, only one troop choice

Agreed, Black Templars terminators (of both flavours!) are probably the best we've got. Mind you, we do pay a symbolic sum for the veteran skills, so they're not "free" per se.

They're 40pts, the same as regular SM termies. They then don't have to pay for the special rules because they're free as a result.

First off no they cost 3 points per model. Vet skills are free for normal Sword Brethren...kinda. They are the same as a marine but cost...3 points more.

Well for my armies:

IG: The vendetta all the way.
Ork: Big Mek KFF easy as it makes trukk mobs survivable.
Tau: Crisis Suits as they are so flexible with their kit outs and can pack a nasty punch.
C:SM: Las/Plas Razorbacks are great as it gives you the extra gun so one weapon destroyed result and you aren't dead.
CSM: Daemon Prince w/Wings. Honestly with MoT he isn't bad it is kinda fun to always have a 4++ and reroll to hits, and turn people into spawn!
Black Templar: This is tough the EC gives nice buffs, but the typhoons are soooo cheap and normal 5 man termi squad with 2 CML and tank hunters, or a tank hunting ven dread with TLLC...gotta go with the termis though.

DE: Again tough between blasterborn (4 trueborn with 4 blasters in a venom w/ 2 Splinter Cannons or a Ravager. I think pound for pound the ravager wins with its new hop 12" fire three DLs and have a 5++.

They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

DE: Definitely the Ravager. 12" move + 36" range means we get to shoot first.

The sheer amount of firepower a trueborn squad gives you on the beta strike makes it a very close contender, though. And for WWP lists, Beastmasters are basically required.

For BA I'd say assault marines, they have grey hunter level versatility and can either jump about or take uber cheap transports. I mean really, 15 pt fast rhinos, 20 pt fast razorbacks?

IG has lots of really good units, the Russ, the Vendetta, Guardsmen, the CCS (especially these fine men)

BT- yeah terminators

Space Marines- Sternguard, these guys are the embodiment of space marines, go anywhere, do anything all with the humble bolter.

Probably Death Company Dreadnought. 5 Attacks on the charge with Dreadnought CCWs is good, but for a slight drop in strength you end up with one model than can potentially wipe out entire squads (Like in Feb's WD) in one assault phase, before the first blow is even struck!
Plus Crew Shakened/Stunned does nothing, it can Fleet, has Furious Charge all for 125pts.

This is all you mention. Be it best unit, beat this unit or anything else, you have to bring up the frikkin' broadsides.

For a reason.

They are the best, They have 2W, Str5 T4 2+, a TL Str 10 AP 1 weapon and an assault 4 ignore LOS ignore Night Fighting Str5 AP5 weapon. And cheaper than a well kitted-out Crisis suit.

Only the XV9 is better, but it isn't in the Codex.

The best unit in the guard codex is probably the company command squad.

- they give buffs out to other units.

- they screw with the metagame (with advisers).

- they can be kitted to handle any situation (whether with a lascannon and MoO and 4x plasma, or with straken, 4x meltas and a priest).

- they're pretty cheap (especially as HQ choices in other codecies go).

CSM: Lash Prince. Play defensively, keep keep out of LoS/in cover (rhinos for the win). Pull troops off points turn 5/6/7.
Necrons: Overlord /w Scythe on CCB. Kills a few tanks, but draws a TON of fire, (and can take a beating, 13/13/11 with 4+ cover for moving flat out, chance to ignore shaken/stunned, and shakes off the 1st 2 immobilized results) letting the real heavy hitters get into position. 180 pts, and the Lord will usually survive for a while after the Barge goes kaboom.

Necrons - limited testing but scarabs or barge lord both wreck tanks pretty effectively.

Daemons- Kairos or Bloodcrushers - well bloodcrushers are better than kairos, but kairos makes daemons go from playable to competitive.

lol'd @ that.

For me at the moment.

Necrons: Annihilation Barge or Wraiths.
Barge = 90pts worth of Assault 4, TL, ST7 shots that can arc 6" and possibly cause more wounds... I used one to rip apart a unit of 24 gaunts and 3 Warriors in a few turns last night against a friend.
Wraiths... Well, 3 ST6 rending attacks and can make anything in contact In1... And has a 3+ and a 3++ default... Also used a few to rip apart Nidz yesterday.

For Orks, I'd call it a three-way tie.

Shoota Boyz; Obvious. They're cheap, tough, shooty, and good in assault. A rock-solid Troops unit.

KFF Mek; Terrain? We don't need no stinkin' terrain, we carry our cover around with us!

And last but not least, Ghazghkull. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet; 225 points gets you not only the killiest CC character in the game, but also a massively powerful army buff! Ghazghkull is just as central to many builds as a KFF Mek is, I'd say. . . and he can break heads better than anyone else, too. Honestly, he'd nearly be worth his points without the Waaagh; with it, he's significantly undercosted for what he does.

For DE, I'm unsure what to vote for. My top 3 in no particular order:

- Ravager - ultra-mobile, cheap, excellent range. Nuff said.
- Incubi - Pricey compared to other DE assault 'specialists', their statline and gear more than make up for it. No other unit available to us has that wow-factor once it gets into combat. The proverbial hot knife through butter.
- Haemonculus - makes tough Wracks (Scoring) Troops, in doing so providing a great boon to Venomspam lists and freeing up Elite slots for Blasterborn and Incubi. Ridiculously cheap for an HQ to begin with. Brings a Pain token for assault squads to make them more resilient and launch them into FC mode posthaste. Never had a better henchman.

Grey Hunters are wolfin' awesome for SW, but I'd say Long Fangs are the key unit. They blast away tanks, Termies and monstrous creatures and can drop plates on Orks and Bugs. Once they're finished taking out the nasty stuff, send in the Grey Hunters to clean up what's left.

Man... that almost sounds Orky writing that. Use da rokkitz to boom da big stuff den da Boyz chop up da rest.
