Subject: How many people enjoy GW games and models?
If you despise GW and have ragequit and enjoy parading that fact around like a medal of honor, there is definitely a thread on this page for you.
But if you actually enjoy GW games, enjoy the models, and haven't sworn a blood oath to dance on their grave, then this thread is for YOU!
Let's hear about your years of commitment, your model collections, and future plans! Have a great game lately? An exciting army idea? a campaign? let's hear it!
SOMEONE out there MUST still be having a good time...
Myself, I am currently involved in a 40k Apocalypse campaign (lots of house rules to temper the potential for crazy)... I started a VC collection for fantasy based on those beautiful models, but I find I might have to shelf that project if I ever hope to finish these Dark Eldar (amongst my commission work).
Just tonight I got to watch a viscous battle for a bridge... 6k Apoc: CSM vs. IG. It was two seperated tables connected by a foot wide, 18" long bridge, which was the only objective! Lots of brutal violence all around... but the climax was Yarrick and a unit of Ogryns storming the bridge in the last turn and clearing it of plague marines!
NEXT PURCHASES: Still trying to decide whether to expand into wracks and grotesques or wyches and hellions first...
I still enjoy GW, and any time I shoot the WLC into my skaven slaves; it's good times.
The only GW stuff on my hobby "to buy" list is some clanrats (always more clanrats!!), and some DoC to finish off my 40k demon army.
Cause the chicks dig it...
2000 (RT era Thousand Sons), 2000 (Undivided), 3000 (demons)
2500 (Skaven), 3000! (Chaos Dwarf), 2500 (Warriors of Chaos)

I must note that just because someone is having issues with GW or something they have done, does not automatically equal they have ragequit. A fair few folks who are/seem to be the more vehement anti GW posters, have plenty of GW related goodies at home and still play. You can easily see this just by following the forum over time.
Just clarifying as I am seeing more folks trying to fall into the 'Dakka are all whining naysayers camp' when sometimes being against GW over certain issues is totally justified, and as a paying customer everyone has the right to disagree with choices a company makes. Whether that company actually listens doesn't really matter, a person should still be able to voice their discontent. I've been in the hobby for nearly 24yrs now, and I really think GW has never been as bad as they have been in the past four years regarding their decesion making process and how it affects their customer base. I don't tend to make a big thing on it here as I'm not overly worried about it on a personal level to be honest, but I think its slightly harsh for someone to make out that everyone raising objections to some genuinely dodgy decesions in the past couple of years (ie Australia and the RoW changes) must mean they are adamant anti GW, and take pride in doing so.
I think if you actually read the posts, see what else they say around the forum, you'd realise that the actual 'ragequit I hate GW' numbers, are smaller than it appears. Plenty of people have issues with GW at the moment, and thats down mostly to the company.
I honestly think this thread would have done better without that little dig at the start. Hence my note.
/devils advocate.
Back to the rest of your post.
Yes, I am greatly enjoying the hobby, although to be honest that hasn't changed in years. I've jumped around systems, not playing Warhammer at the moment for example as I have issues with 8th, but still loving 40K, Mordheim, Blood Bowl and Necromunda.
Started a new Guard army in around October last year, which is starting to swell a little now after some Christmas influx, and a purchase of Ogryns and Ratlings last friday that arrived yesterday morning. Painting them like crazy at the moment, for a planned birthday bash on March 4th. My birthday bash.
Will be also giving the boys two painted 1500pt armies that day as well, as I am happy to share the love on my birthday. So in general an exciting time as my two boys are learning all about the game and how it works over the past year-ish for the eldest, and this will be the first time for our mddle son. My wife Aurelia (her name on Dakka) also plays, and is trying to get her Dark Eldar done in time as well.
Planned purchases for the rest of the year include, me and Aura starting a tale of *four* (two) gamers when the 6th edition box arrives, taking an army each from the box and expanding on them over the following year.
I also hope on finishing my Mordheim terrain and getting a campaign going for that as well.
If Blood Bowl turns up (seems unlikely with 40K 6th, but this is its 25year as well so who knows) I will be getting at least one of them, if not more if the four teams rumour turns out accurate. So yeah, I can see this being a bumper year for GW stuff at my house. Looking forward to it.

Seems like a moot question to me, surely anyone that buys then and sticks with it must gain some enjoyment from it (assuming they are not being paid to paint mins/play games?) or why else would they do it?

The models are great, but they were priced a bit out of my range a few years ago. I would like to pick up one or two just to paint but there are so many other wonderful models that I never get around to anything from GW. There are a few design choices that turn me off (more skulls than there are vertebrates) and the style can get tired if the sculptors don't put their heart into it but most kits they put out are marvels. If I had all the money I needed I would get that zombie dragon, cockatrice, and some grey knights right away just to have.
The games are dismal and thoroughly unenjoyable for me. I did quit but as I said before it was years ago before all the nerdrage and happened more organically. If there were any other big games back when I started I may never have actually bought into 40k at all but warzone wasn't to my liking either and that was almost all of the non-fantasy games that existed at the time. 40k was by far more fleshed out and imaginative so I thought it would be fun to delve into. It was for a short time but I don't think I ever finished a game over 1k points even though I had a 2500 army.
Actually I have to take some of that back. All of the CURRENT gw games are unenjoyable. Mordheim was amazing and I always hear good things about bloodbowl to this day though I never had a good chance to try it. Necromunda was cool too but it never clicked with me like mordheim.
I suppose I am a case of almost loving gw with a series of near misses.

I quit 40k and WHFB over ten years ago, and it was hardly a ragequit, more that I lost the gaming group, but when I rediscovered the love of miniatures games the two systems didn't really have much to offer me.
I love Space Hulk (didn't get the new one because I have the old one and all the expansions, so all I really needed were the rules), although I don't get to play it all that much anymore. Same thing with Man o'War, that game really captured my youthful imagination. I would love to get into Epic if it was still a living game. I also play Blood Bowl now and then.
As for models, some are great and some are not, much like any other company.

What a laughably binary point of view. So you're either a dead-set GW fanboi decked out in shining white armour... or a rage-quitting hater?
You also make the classically flawed assumption that "Not liking GW = Not liking 40K/WFB/whatever" or, worse, that one must like GW in order to like their products or universe. This couldn't be further from the truth.

+1 on this.
I wouldn't say it is a ragequit, more the equivalent of that Monty Python sketch with the fish slapping dance. Using the analogy in the video below, GW is Terry Jones and I'm John Cleese.
I still love to play GW games. However, that doesn't mean I should stick my fingers in my ears and close my eyes when they continue with one crap policy decision after another.

Despite only starting 40K two years ago I've been a fan of GW games for many years.
I started with the original Space Hulk which I still play. And I was a customer when they used to sell RPGs. WFRP is still one of the best RPGs ever.
More recently I got into 40K and love it. I didn't think I would enjoy the modelling side but I do, very much. So much that I've got Orks, Tyranids, Necrons and a few Space Marines. We usually only play 1000 -2000pt games, last week was just 700 & a 200pt Kill Teams game, but still lots of fun.
I recently bought Blood Bowl from Warhammer World, and that day out to Warhammer World was one of my best days ever.
My next GW 'project' is reassembling Advanced Heroquest which I've raided for bits for RPGs over the years. Found most of the bits, might just buy some more Skaven.
And I'm trying to get an Apocalypse game sorted, but it's finding the place. Probably have to wait to the Summer and put some tables up in my garage.
Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I enjoy their games and models and have done for decades. I've had a lot of fun with them and will because those old games and models will be around forever.
I didn't 'ragequit' I've just drifted away because I just don't like their absurd prices and obnoxious corporate nonsense. I think the same is true of a lot of people so using terms like 'ragequit' is a bit of a misrepresentation.

Isn't this like asking the John in the brothel is he likes "T&A"?
The problem is the John in the brothel has too many choices. When he can pick and choose he gets kinda cranky.
"She's too small up top."
"She's too big on the bottom."
"She's a little too chubby."
"She's a little too skinny."
"She always wants to be on top and I like it on the top."
"She always wants to play cowboy & Indian and I like Knight & Damsel in distress."
"I really like that one but she's outta my price range."
"The brothel down the street has a chick that looks just as good for 1/2 the cost. "
In everycase the John that is complaining still likes T&A. I dare say loves it. But when he has too many choices or can express his preference or has to limit his choices due to his cash situation he can get kinda grumpy.
As for me. I love GW games and figures. But I love other figures and games too.
My latest project is a Redmaw Assault Ram from ForgeWorld.

Wow, this makes a refreshing change to the usual, GW are the devil comments I'm too used to seeing on this board.
I am a big fan of GW. Of what they have done and what they do. For a small company set up in Nottingham, to grow to the level they are, when really it's just a bunch of guys enjoying their hobby, it amazes me. The HQ in Nottingham is a big place, this is no two bit operation.
I did the usual Kid thing of getting into GW as a youth. I Picked up painting again in Uni, but it dropped off due to time. Come 2009 when I saw the front cover of White Dwarf with Space Hulk in a little corner shop I knew it was time to get back into something that has always appealed to me, but had to much social pressure that wargamming was a geek thing, or similar to actively peruse.
Thankfully that social stigma meant little to me in my late twenty's and the whole hobby thing has snowballed in an uncontrolled manor.
I have just started my 5th Army, 3rd in 40k. I have a group of like minded friends who come round to mine every Wednesday for games night and I paint on average 3 evenings a week.
The models themselves have come on leaps and bounds in recent years. The current plastic kits are always great fun to put together and paint.
Personally I hope to carry this on for many years. It may not be cheap, but given the time I put into each model, the cost per hour is more then adequate. For example, I have just purchased a new 1000pts army, it'll take me all year to paint that up that's not a bad investment compared to a live music concert or a few football matches.

We've been playing it since high school (and some, like my brother and I, since primary school). We take breaks, we try other games, but we always come back to 40k. My brother and I have basically played every army in the game over the last 20 years.
I still like GW's stuff. Their models are fantastic, particularly since they seem to be the only company who wants to do large plastic kits. Putting together and painting large plastic is a lot of fun. And Tyranids are still the most unique race I've seen in a wargame with a fantastic model range. The rules could use some work, but we houserule anything we don't like anyway.
My brother and I have also branched out into Fantasy. My brother and I decided that after we tried about 15 years ago, it's time to try again. We're slowly building up Fantasy armies, him Skaven and me Vampire Counts, while we also convince other friends to give it a go. Even suggesting Mantic models to them if they baulk at the price.
That said, I've broadened my horizons a bit with Infinity. I'm trying to talk my friends and brother into grabbing a few models for it as well (some are keen, but want me to get a painted team together first). But still, even branching into Fantasy and Infinity, 40k is our game still. When we say we want to play, it's always 'let's play 40k' regardless of what we intend to play. Kind of like how people say they are getting a Coke, but are instead getting a Sprite. It's just ingrained.

My brother and I have been playing 40k since it came out. We actually only realized this a few months ago. Back then, we were kids and assumed it had been out for awhile, as we were just getting into the gaming scene. It was a little shocking and whatever word means "makes you feel old" to learn we were there at the beginning.
We've converted a few friends into die-hard 40k fans over the years, dominated some local scenes, and generally had a good time of it. I'm actually playing more frequently and regularly over the last year or so than ever.
I see no signs of stopping. GW's doing a great job with the game/world. The (probable) loss of the MMO was disappointing, but not everything can turn to gold.
I did abandon Eldar, after 27 years, for my side army of Necrons when their new book came out. My Eldar just didn't exist anymore, either in the background or table top, so it was time to move on. Necrons were a brand new day for me, and it was awesome. Then I got IA11 and the Cosair Eldar took me sucked me right back to my roots. Now I'm torn over which army to play and support. Damn GW, making me choose between awesome things.
Also, please stop trolling this thread. You're why we can't have nice things.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I'm happy that your happy, but that doesn't absolve GW from being absolutly gak in thier so called "decisions",
I was a fan and paying consumer until they decided to run the train ito the wall with all of this finefrak overcharge you for nothing bit.
I had a great time with Pulp city, too. Working on a couple of add ons for the new up and coming Ninja outfit.
Had another great game of Secrets fo the Third Reich, and RAFM's UXM SWAT Team Vs the Deep Ones.Along with some of the Cowboy stuff thats out there that I can throw a couple of bones at and pick up a handful of Cowboys and some cheap scenery while I support Necro's game here.
Point here being, GW isn't the only game in town, and money lost to them is going to other game systems that are out there that actually want to sell you something other then a load of Gak.

I have been priced out of Games Workshop (40k specifically) - I think it's only affordable now to middle/upper-classes on 20k+ salaries and even then I dunno how people can afford it on top of rent, council tax etc.
My solution has been to turn to ebay and buy everything second hand or new and heavily discounted. This way it is just about affordable. I learnt how to paint strip effectively and on the cheap, so have just raised a decent 2000pt+ guard army and finished off a similarly sized SM army.
I actually really enjoy taking unloved, old and neglected models, stripping them down and refurbishing them giving them a new life. Occasionally I will buy a brand new model I really like to fit into my collection if I have the money.
I had to google 'ragequit' to work out what it meant, and have to say that is very 'black and white' kind of thinking saying that everyone who disagrees or dislikes GW is ragequit-ing.
I have just started playing 40k again after a 10 year break and I have always disliked GW due to the crippling overpricing. That said, there products are usually the best I can find - i've tried billions of different paints but none I find are better to work with than Citadel. So it really is mixed feelings - yeah GW could be a bit cheaper, yes they have treated fan-films terribly (probably my main grievance with them) and have aggressively pursued lawsuits over copyrighting to the point of sheer paranoia, not too mention being aggressively harassed to buy products in GW stores...
But all in all I still love 40k. It's expanded like you wouldn't believe in the past decade since the late 90's into something quite incredible, with novels, extra armies and a world wide following. I've always loved the fluff in the 40k universe and that is the main draw for me. I deeply admire GW for giving the world all of this, and as long as I can keep buying armies on the cheap I honestly don't care enough to stop playing it and boycotting GW.

The confrontational stance of the OP didn't help much.
The biggest issue, for me, anyway, is that I WANT to play again. I read those FF books and they actually give me a woody to strike up a chaos warband, a couple of squads of Deathwatch, and some good old fasioned no holds barred wars, campaigns, and some of those ladder army growing games that they used to do with tales of four gamers... I see stuff like this from the OP, and its like they are coming out of the woodwork with no idea of the issues. I don't take it personally, but darn does it twist the knife.
I've been playing for a long time. the last thing I need is someone to pitch me the party line. Threads like this only emphisise that point and make it hard to be civil.
In all honesty, I like the old Orks. I have an army that is waiting on me to get back from my little trip to get back in the painting and playing thing. Too bad I'm looking forward to RT era and 2d edition guys....

BLOOD BOWL, best game every. Will still play Blood Bowl over any other miniature game from any company. Impact dose a great line of model for fantasy football, too. The 3 skirmish games were fun too, it just sucks that they were the most fun as a campaign, but campaign play was unbalanced. WFB ehh... never really a fan. 40K is a fun game, but it dose no what it want to do. Beer & pretzels or competitive play, pick 1, becouse it fails at both. Plus the I-go-while-you-wait-30-minute-or-more, just is not fun. I do hold on to hope for 6th, just not my breath.

Indeed, the same dull people saying the same dull things.
OT, GW is one of the games I play and it's fun. The models are good and I'm liking the new kits, especially for fantasy.
As for future purchases, I'm not planning on many any in the near future as I have a couple of other projects on the go, principally a Back of Beyond style RCW game. But I will no doubt get the urge to start a new army later in the year.

When have GW ever peed on my shoes? When have they ever tried to sell me "gak"? What is "gak", precisely?
This thread was started after reading another thread all about people who have righteously quit GW games...Why is it so offensive to have a thread for people having a good time with it?
Finecast? Is that the problem? Yeah, it sure started off shakey, that's for sure. I returned several minis til I got properly casted ones... I sure wish they'd have hammered out the process before unveiling it. But its been a long time since I had a bad one... so what exactly is the problem? It seems like many forum posters are angry... so angry that they are also angry that other people aren't angry.
