There really arent any rules for it, the best you can do is ask your opponent in a friendly game its not as big a deal, tournaments almost always wont allow it though.

I dont think you can sub in units from other codex's.
Unless you and your opponent agree to it, but thats just people playing how they want to play really.

No, not unless you house rule it. Of course, you could use a Bloodthirster model for a Summoned Greater Deamon HQ in the Chaos Codex, but there are no rules for using one codex's models in another army.

There are a couple ways of doing, neither of which are RAW, as there are no rules for this in normal battles (at least none that I know of in the small rb).
1. Use multiple detachments. This means you have 2 armies using their own FOC at reduced army points
2. The way my friends and I play (which is a little more complicated):
a) HQ: You are still required 1 HQ, however if you take a second HQ it must be from the other codex.
b) Elites, Fast Attack, Heavy Support: You cannot take 2 choices from 1 codex, unless you already have taken 1 choice from the other codex.
c) Troops: Each army MUST provide 1 troop. After that follow the rules for Elites, FA, and HS.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That's actually a pretty good way of doing it, may have to try that out some time.

You will find that people object to mixing armies, especially CSM and Chaos Demons... The CSM summoned demons are pretty crappy but their summoning mechanism is foolproof and they can assault the round they appear - CD units Deepstrike randomly and are bound by DS restrictions so can't assault when they arrive. Now imagine using the much better CD units with the better CSM summonings. Quite a few players will assume that's the only reason you want to mix it up.

Except that would be mixing army rules. I forgot to mention that special rules still only apply to the owning army, so in this case (using my house rules) the CD don't get to use the CSM summoning.
