Hey all,

I am currently painting up some of my Necrons and for the life of me I can't figure out which colour rod I should go with. So I am putting up this poll for a few days and the highest voted colour is what I will use.

Thanks for looking and voting!

BLUE

RED

GREEN

These pictures are of course WIP, I plan on painting the hoses/tubes on the guns the colour of the rods and finishing the shading and highlights.

So let me know which you like best and some comments on why. Thanks!

Red, definately red. I would also recommend a sepia wash on the yellowy brown metal. Red rods would make the necron army unique and different to most.

Have you considered using different color rods for each unit? It would be unique and would identify a unit individually on the game board!

The blue ties in well with the shoulder blade color, and unifies the model, while the red adds contrast and really looks menacing.

I think blue would look good, however the blue rods you a lot less intense than the other rods.

I voted blue, but if you can't find a more intense blue go with red.

Where'd you get those alternate rods at nate?

I'd say red. I assume the model is unfinished, 'cause at the moment he looks like he's made of white chocolate!

I did a simlar color scheme with blue rods some time ago if that helps.

The blue rod unifies the entire model. If you're trying to draw attention to the Flayer, then you clearly want to use red.

Thanks for the reply, red seems like the colour of choice

No I have not, may have to consider that.

Yeah I was a little bummed out with the intensity of the blue, I was hoping for a much brighter colour.

3/32 rods is what I am using. One pack comes with 8 - 9" rods, enough to do a whole army.

Haha none taken, yes they are unfinished, I just wanted to do this so I didn't have 60 warriors finished except for the rods.

Those are amazing! And it does help to see a similar scheme, I really like them. What blue rods are you using? They seem darker than the ones I found.

Really not sure haha, I like the unified model approach but the rods just aren't as bright as I'd hoped

Hey everyone thanks for the replies! So far red is winning.

Agreed that the Blue helps to really unify them. However, Red does help them to stand out, so I'd recommend you take others advice and use this to mark out HQ's, or special characters etc

The rods i used look the same as yours against a white background, being very translucent they picked up alot of blue from the background light in that picture.

They look a bit lighter from different angles aswell as you can see.

Personally i dont like the red rods. Red is not complmentry to any other color on that model.

Red just looks out of place to me. I really like how the blue complements the rest of the model (and besides, it matches the shoulder pads). I vote blue.

Blue. Perhaps you could use an ink to darken them, but they look fine the way they are.

Ok, so I get what everyone is saying about matching the units with the blue color. However, IMHO, that is a terrible blue color. It is pale, lifeless, and boring to me. For gods sake it is a gauss weapon, it is supposed ot be alive and roiling with energies! Blue is fine, just find something with some more excitement in it!

Well blue got the highest votes.

I am going to see if I can find a darker blue acrylic rod or see if I can't make these darker somehow.

Thanks for all the votes and replies!!
