As soon as I saw the FInecast Cockatrice I thought I need one of those but not for it's intended purpose, so may I please present my Thousand Sons DP/ Greater Daemon/ Changer of Ways:













The good thing about finecast is that it's so easy to manipulate so I got the cockatrice and chopped it in half. I kept the head, wings feet and tail and added arms legs and a few other bits like shoulder pads from a DP plastic kit. The staff is from the Tomb Kings Warsphinx and the flames are greenstuffed. I also tried a bit of OSL but it was my first attempt so I didn't expect it to work very well.

A blast to make and paint and probably my favourite model I have done so far, let me know what you think Dakka.

@Kenshin620 the staff is a bit crooked. My girlfriend dropped him and the staff broke. She almost felt the wrath of Khorne!

Damn...nice work. I especially love the greenstuff flames. (Have you ever tried Liquid Nailz to make flames? You just pump out a blob and tease up the flames with a nail or toothpick or something.) Damn fine work on the wings.

That's an awesome and creative conversion. Only one thing I can see that would have improved it - I would have tried to centre him more on his base - he looks a bit like he's falling off the back from the photos...

Great use of the kit - that's a sweet-looking daemon!.

Re: girlfriend ... that's more restraint than I'd have expected from someone with your username.

Awesome. Great paint, outstanding and well-executed conversion. The staff being a bit crooked is letting the side down a bit.

If I were to give any feedback for improvement, it's on the staff's icon/top.

1. As a 40k & WH player, the iconography on the staff's head is a bit too-clearly Tomb Kings. It might be worth modifying it a bit futher (such as taking the scythe blade off the top one, and maybe swapping the studded leather/cloth straps suspending the skulls below for chains or ropes).

2. The straps holding the skulls below the staff head are "hanging" at an angle to the ground. If you were to swap them out with chains or something which actually hang directly toward the ground, the staff's head would look really amazing. As they are it breaks suspension of disbelief a bit.

Or there is the horrors of Tzeentch banner, since I will probably get some of them to go with the army at some point.

@Necroagogo ha ha I was close to unleashing my berzerker fury but finding a girlfriend who is accepting of my chaotic creations is quite difficult where I am from, so she can live a bit longer ...for now.

Now thats change i can believe in.

Those are all gorgeous. For my money, the key is that if the piece has a strap/chain/rope hanging down, that you make sure said piece is actually hanging down toward the ground in relation to the model. This is a place where you separate the men (skilled/dedicated converters) from the boys (beginners/lazy modelers).

Quite a few people use the Cockatrice as a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch, myself incuded.

Right I have finally got some hobby time so I am addressing the comments about the staff. I have reattached the top so it shouldn't be crooked any more. As advised I have removed the skulls on cloth and I am adding some skulls on chains which are hanging more naturally. I have also added a Chaos star to the top of the staff to get rid of some of the tomb kings vibe.

I was also wondering whether or not to add a few Space Wolf tails to the staff as trophies, given the relationship between Space Wolves and Thousand Sons. What do you guys reckon? I will hopefully post some pics soon, Cheers.

I like how it looks alot the general idea of this is awesome. Personally I wouldn't hang tails from him as the sace wolves do that themselves, but maybe their heads and/or helmets might look cool?
