This is the only issue I've heard of anyone not getting on recently.
Our down time on the 17th was short. We were back up by noon CST.

I did a bit of Googling, and this about the only thing I could find that had any answer for similar problems:

It isn't possible to say what it caused, can be an interrupt, a restart of the SQL server while writing, corrupted data, etc.
But it is something to watch if it happens often you should contact your host as than they most likely have a problem with their MySQL server.

I actually got the same error for 1-2 hours while at the coffee shop sipping java and surfing as well as last week (after the 17th) initially. I didn't stress as my trade thread is woefully outdated at the moment.

I'm actually getting that sql error today again and took a screen pic for Adam that I emailed him.

Same. Down again, there appears to be rolling SQL errors on this host. I hope Adam is giving them an earful.

Sadly, I'm getting it, too.
Now, how am I going to spend my day at work?

Le sigh!

I know Plarz gives 'em an ear full. Hopefully, Adam will, too.

AFAIK Bartertown being up and down and up and down is business as usual.

Your knowledge is a bit off.
We've had issues, granted, but we're not an "up and down" site.

A dozen. Wow.
I missed them.

I've only seen 3 or 4 in recent memory, barring the one I started about our scheduled maintenance.

I'd love to see links, so I could address them.

Not picking a fight, but there probably HAVE been a dozen threads about Bartertown being down on Dakka. I was curious and did a quick search and found 7 more not counting this one or the other you started recently, MM.

That said, you or porkuslime have responded quickly to each, so it's nice to know you guys are keeping an eye out over here as so many people frequent both sites. Also, most of them refer to the same incidents... we tend to have a bit of a meltdown over here if there's ever a problem on BTown, and get 2-3 threads out of each instance

My point isn't that they're not here. My point is frequency. That first one goes back to 2010, for example.

Also, like you said, Jim and I try to answer them ASAP when they come up. So, if I've missed them, I want to be aware that I have.

Yeah, there's been problems. Free sites with no membership options (we just started even offering a paid membership last year) that rely on advertisers can't always afford the top of the line host services. LOL So, sure. There have been issues. I couldn't deny THAT.
Since we started offering paid memberships, things have gotten more stable for us, because we've had the money for upgrades. Hopefully, our memberships will continue to increase and we can keep funneling that money into the site to keep it glitch-free (which, I'd like to point out, Dakka does a great job of!).

I admit I get a bit resentful when I see things like, "AFAIK Bartertown being up and down and up and down is business as usual. " Sure, I do. That implies that you never know, one day to the next, if you're even going to get online there. That's preposterous.
It's like when people say Dakka is full of trolls, rules-lawyers and GW haters. They're HERE, but that statement implies that they're the majority, which is a load of BS. If that was what Dakka was like, I wouldn't frequent here almost as often as I do BT. : )

I'd also like to say that I LIKE that those threads are here. I LIKE that people post them here when something's wrong. It shows me that they care. I like that they care about the status of BTown. : )

I hope that clarifies where I was coming from a bit better.

Yeah, I'd tend to disagree with the up and down statement. For every 100 times I go to bartertown to check the ads, there is an issue maybe be 2-3 times. For Dakka, it's closer to 1 out of 100 (usually the maintenance mekboy image). That's still nothing to really worry about as only the server issue last year lasted more than a single day.

I do however like the fact that I can post here about the issues when the site is down. It allows some news to go in and out about the status when Btown isn't accessible.

Agreed- I think there's only ever been one, or at most two times that I've tried to get on Bartertown and not been able to (and probably the same for Dakka, or maybe a hair more, since I'm on here more frequently). I think the site's fantastic and more than anything just wanted to point out that I think we're talking about 2 different things (lots of threads about BT being down? Yes... lots of times BT is down? No...).
