Subject: Did you even notice the 25th Anniversary of 40k?
I'm on Dakka every single day, talking about 40k and things related to it, but the 25th Anniversary just went over my head.
GW really had an opportunity to do something cool and get people hyped about 40k, but they didn't. Not really, anyway. The anniversary model is neat, but really, I don't think too many people are pressed to buy it. I just imagined they would have gone bigger.
I hardly heard anything about it, because really, there was nothing to hear. Maybe there's more to come?
If only ZUN!bar were here...

I wish they'd have done something for non-GW stores that stock their stuff, then I'd have noticed it much more. I didn't even know that there was going to be anything else beyond the model for instance, and I'd have liked to pick up the poster that they had but, eh

When i noticed it, i was a bit shocked. I assumed they would do something closer to 6e release and have 6e for their big anniversary present.
But as for now, I want to say there is more to come, atleast, i really, really hope there is.
40k's 25th anniversary this month, and what does GW put in their WD this month? the new LOTR stuff, strange. Next months WD contains the new release SW and Tyranids, yes its 40k, but its not really good or helpful for the entire 40k community.
That being said, it is still only feburary. Thats another 10 months of this year to go. Now, a good marketing technique is to release new stuff in the months running up to christmas, for example, the FIFA 2012 game was released in October / November of 2011. That being said, GW doesn't excell at marketing techniques.
Anyway, 6e is rumored for this summer July/August. Hopefully, that will make up for this month's aniversary downfall.

I only knew about WHF hitting...whatever it was 20 or 25 years, when I stumbled onto a blow up hammer. You know those things you when at the county fair and blow up, but it was painted and shapped like the logo. the store owner had two, and didnt know what to do with them, so me and a friend both bout them for $10 each. Mainly just to run around with a big hammer (it's about 3 foot tall or so)

My local game store had a throw back rule books sale. They sold some old rule books and codexes and also had a 3ed tournie.
Keep in mind we are getting a new rule set this year..... I think that's celebration enough on GWs part.

I'm pretty sure its not this month. Being an old git I was there, Games Day 1987, at the RHS Hall in London. I have somewhere a Rogue Trade hardback signed by Rick Priestley from that day, I'm pretty sure it was in the summer, I want down in the car with a mate of mine got a lift from my folks as I was a mere stripling then!

I've been disconnected from GW and white dwarf for so long I didn't notice. What's the model?

The anniversary model was finecast so most people couldn't be bothered even though it's an awesome-looking model. Otherwise, apparently my local GW did some stuff but it didn't sound massive compared to other events they've done.
I avoided the store on purpose as I knew it would be full of 'fun' events and little kids, etc. plus I barely go there anymore anyway.
I remembered at like, lunch time. I considered dropping in to grab a mouse pad, but then reconsidered. I'm not so much into the hobby that I want to go hang out in a closet with a bunch of smelly teenagers.

I still picked up WD385, but I agree. Would it have been out of line to have an issue dedicated to the flagship vessel for a 25 year retrospective?
Hopefully we will see some cool stuff this year.
I missed out on ordering the mini and there are no GW stores in my state. Driving around I finally found a store that had 5, but they were going to keep them for tournaments. But they hooked me up.

I totally forgot about it until i stopped by my gw yesterday to get the new white dwarf. I bought one of the 25th anniversary models, but it was more of an impulse buy, not sure if ill build it anytime soon
Total Finecast models purchased: 5
Total models without Finecast issues out of those purchased: 0
... "Finecast"

It was mainly younger kids at my local GW. Went with a bunch of friends, no free stuff 1hr after opening, got what we needed and then legged it.
Oh there was some baloons on some of the tables?
Apart from that it was just a normal day (Maybe busier, but hey I dont go there usually)

GW Belfast had a few events. First was the favourite 40K model comp. Build and paint it for the day. Winner was an absolutely stunning Astorath the Grim painted in ice blue tones on the armour and mounted on a 40mm base with ice basing and plastic jewels for ice crystals.
Then there was Design a marine chapter comp. £5 to enter. They supply a table with a tac squad sprue and a commander sprue. Everyone taking from those two kits, build and paint a new marine chapter. Then write fluff. The winner gets his name.on a.purity seal on the Games.ay banner and the store paints up an AOBR.kit.in that scheme for demo games.
Then there was the gaming. The staff volenteered their OWN PERSONAL ARMIES, for use. You get to use an army which you had never played before.
Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW, I enter the design comp. Accidentally painted an Excorcist!!! At least you get to keep the model...

Since I don't patronise a GW store anymore, I didn't see anything (I will, however, patronise the staff - for their red shirts, their bathing habits (or lack of) as often as I can).
I'm aware it's 25 years old (as I started 40k 25 years ago - egads, where has the time gone?)
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

if I owned that silly company I'd have done things a bit differently
it's not like 3 months before the event they were like, oh gak, our 25th is coming up, we need to do something for that.
I would make a special character for each army, considering you want people to play all your armies, by making one, you are ignoring a supposedly large part of your fanbase. I would have promoted the living hell out of it. Every gaming store that carried my product would have had huge events for a month at least. People being in a store means people, not all, but at least some, will be buying your product. You could even have a contest to design your own character, and then vote for a winner. The winner would get their model casted and a writeup in WD or something. In an economy like we are in, with no signs of any better days ahead, you need to spoil your customer base. There probably aren't many parents looking to spend hundreds of dollars on a game their kid will probably play for a month and quit. Try giving the people that actually spend their hard earned money regularly something as a thank you, it actually will make you MORE MONEY. It is a marketing and business fact, happy customers are loyal customers. They will even tell others about the thing that makes them happy.

GW celebrated 25 years of 40K in the best possible manner:
1. A limited edition Finecost model... which is a contradiction in terms. 2. Lord of the Rings releases and a front-page on their monthly catalogue.
But guys, don’t fret, the exciting 25th anniversary of 40K will kick into high gear at year’s end when we get 2 solid quarters (Q4 ’12 and Q1 ’13) of Hobbit related goodness. Really, in all honesty, this is the best year to be a 40K player (as long as you’re also a LOTR player that is!).

LoTR was cool back in the day when Fellowship of the Ring was winning Oscars like nobody's business.
Now that they've made a model for pretty much everything imaginable, the whole game seems kind of tired.
Anyone know how that Ultramarines on Word Bearer action turned out?
Pretty accurate if you think about the Grimdark involved.
"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus
"This great fortress was a gift to the Blood Ravens from the legendary Imperial Fists. When asked about it Chapter Master Pugh was reported to say: "THEY TOOK WHAT!?""
