Battlefoam is my choice. It is a little spendy, but a worthwhile investment.

A quick search of this forum will show that yours is the most recent of the roughly bi-weekly threads to pop up on this subject.

Let me break down for you what the end results will be:

Different people like different things. The final answer depends on what you want them for and your tastes. There will not be anything near universal agreement (except, perhaps, with my response). Different styles of cases vs. different styles of foam vs different sizes vs cost factors will combine in ways that, in the end, will leave you up to your own devices to make your own decision.

If you want to see the varying answers you'll get before they're put here, search the forum. There are pages of discussions.

Eric

P.S. It's Battlefoam for me.

BEST thing is probably Battlefoam, and it also qualifies as the most expensive. Tis the Luxury Rolls Royce of mini transport.

For me and my budget, I have invested heavily in Sabol to the point where I probably cannot feasibly change.

So.. I introduce dissention in the responses.. whilst at the same time agreeing with MM..

I used to own Battlefoam, cases and trays. But I sold them all and switched to Portable Warfare cases & Outrider Hobbies trays. The smaller cases are easier for me to handle transporting cross country, and since they they the 'standard' tray size that Sabol, BluFoam, and Outrider deal with its much easier to quickly get trays when I need to.

Doesn't Battlefoam make bags that fit Sabol foam or Sabol sized trays......

p.s. It's Battlefoam for me as well, I have 2000 pts. of orks slumbering in it right now. lol

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

I have used Sabol's Army Transport bags for years with great success, but I have never needed to ship my armies in the air.

In the last six months I have begun switching the majority of my armies to Table War display cases. They are perfect for large groups of infantry and for light travel to local venues (car or bus). They also have the added benefit of allowing you to view your army while they are tucked away in the case which is great for enjoying the army while not playing with it. The cases are for specialized needs, so depending on what your transportation method is they may not work for you, but if you are like me with an infantry heavy army and you aren't going very far from home these cases are absolutely perfect.

Nope. I would love if they did, but Battlefoam said there's not enough people demanding this product.

For this reason alone, I'm a fan of Portable Warfare in terms of trays (They make the standard "Sabol" sized-trays) and Office Deport in terms of transporting case.

Battlefoam makes Sabol sized TRAYS.. not bags to hold Sabol trays..

I do have a nice selection of their infantry trays.. but not as many as I do Sabol.. lol..

I really ought to take a picture of my Wall-o-Cases..

On the OTHER end of the spectrum, I have successfully found 3 suitcases at thrift stores that are also sized for sabol trays, oddly enough.

Paid less than $2 per suitcase..

i have travelled half the world with my Sabol Army Transport bag... i have 3 different thicknesses of trays, and can carry a couple of years worth of minis to paint...
the bag fits nicely in the overhead compartment of the plane, and i've never been asked to check the bag...
i like the shoulder strap, and the pouches on the front of the bag...
8 years on, and i'm still very happy with my bag...
aside from a little dust, it still looks new, and has held up nicely to the abuses of travel (no broken zips, rips, or busted strap)...

cheers

I've owned every variety of transport but KR and I vote Battle Foam.

It fits the most in a single tray(even the "standard" size) and their bags are more durable and have a warranty.

I'm a teacher in the United States, so needless to say I CANNOT afford Battlefoam so I'm going to have to say Sabol. It's not too expensive, you have a medium level of customization and there are plenty of sizes to choose from. Now, if I was independently wealthy, sure Battlefoam is the best.

A good cheap option is styrofoam egg cartons. Cardboard ones work too but can scuff/chip the paintjob. Then put them in a container of some sort (tupperware boxes for example). Doesn't help with vehicles obviously but I find vehicles aren't usually the storage/sorting problem.

If you don't want to buy lots of eggs, plenty of grocery stores have a recycle bin for styrofoam. And will give them to you for free if you ask.

It's actually hard to go wrong with any of the big 4 (am I forgetting any?) foam dealers: Battlefoam, Portable Warfare, Sabol, or KR. They are all great companies that supply a solid product.

...It mostly comes down to how much you want to spend and how much stuff you need to throw in one bag.

but yeah, I prefer Battlefoam.

It is rather easy to go 'wrong', arguably.

Sabol and Portable Warfare and Battlefoam all produce trays of the de facto standard size. Sabol and Portable Warfare produce bags fitting this size.

Battlefoam also produces bags in some other odd size with expensive foam that only fits their bags. They also make a plethora of other bags that fit foam of all sorts of odd sizes that don't even fit in their main line of bags.

KR Multicase is similar in that they have their own size, but their foam is cheaper.

--

Ultimately, it comes down to current and future cost. If you buy a Sabol or PW bag, you have options from three companies to choose from.

If you buy a Battlefoam bag, you're stuck with only buying Battlefoam's expensive foam (not a bad thing).

If you buy a KR bag/box, you're stuck with buying only KR foam at a reasonable price.

I use a smaller Feldherr bag for my few gaming minis, will have to get the big one for future large games. I'd get a Battle Foam, but those are supra-expensive.

This is the only thing you said that I disagree with... and i only disagree with the last part.

KR is not necessarily a reasonably priced option.
I have a large (3000+ point) Dark Eldar army. For pricing reasons, I first went to KR to investigate the costs. The idea of having the stuff in boxes then only bringing the boxes I needed was interesting to me. Well, after pricing them, I investigated Battlefoam. The BF trays and case I bought cost me around $350. To fit my army into KR, the costs were nearly $900.

The problem in their size. All of my Raiders are permanently attached to their bases. KR isn't really built to handle this. I'd have had to have one vehicle per tray, laying on its' side. This really added up.

For me, BF is the way to go, and that is only one of the reasons.

MM are you sure you got that right?

KR have cases that will hold 4 raider/ravagers for 30 quid, what's that $50?

Here found it: http://krmulticase.com/cases.aspx?system=WH40K&army=DE

KR have something to cover most needs I have found (I have 4 card cases, 1 metal case + a backpack). I looked at BF but found it to be to expensive for what you get and while I can see they have an aesthetic advantage think that Fieldherr are better in that department again for less money.

Well, when I started shopping for a case, Sabol was the only thing out there that was available locally (aside from the GW cases which would have necessitated me tearing foam trays apart), so I picked up a Motorpool and I've not been disappointed. I moved my Sisters of Battle into the Motorpool and added an Armoured Company for my Orks last year.

You'll get a good and reasonably priced case from Sabol, which is nice and you can get foam for them from a variety of sources.

As to the other manufacturer's listed here, the main contenders seem to be Battlefoam and KR.

I've seen the Battlefoam bags a few times and they're just plain nice. You pay for them, but they're definitely the Cadillac of miniatures cases. I tend to see their solution as best if you're building to a specific list since the foam is custom and you probably don't want to add too much to an army once you've ordered foam for it. Admittedly, you can order new foam though, so it's not a done deal just because you have a case with foam.

KR is probably the solution I'd have gone with from the get go had they been around when I was looking for a case. I fall into the collector category a bit more than the gamer category and especially my Orks army, I just don't see being done with any time soon. To that end, being able to pick up boxed foam to label and store (and load into my case at need basically by unit) would make a nice solution. While that will get expensive in terms of foam, honestly, if you're sitting on a 5000+ point horde army, there's really no way to avoid that.

As for Sabol, I kind of put them in the middle ground between KR and Battlefoam. They're a good case, but sometimes, you'll have to figure out alternate solutions to things.

Honestly though, I wouldn't call any of those three a bad solution by any stretch. There are however, 'better' solutions for individual needs depending on what you're needs are.

Listen for that little *ping* sound of a magnetic detaching from a model's base as it is pulled towards that metal sheet.

Listen to that model, probably a metal one, careening around in your box smashing everything in its path.

I use a KR multicast for my Space Marine army. For $130 including shipping I got a case that can fit:

8 Rhinos and their derivatives (Whirlwinds, Predators, Razorbacks, etc)
2 Land Raiders
4 Dreadnoughts
100 troops
something like 40 elites (less the turrets/bits from the tanks)

Plus the bag itself can fit my codex, dice, rulebook, templates, everything.

While I don't think battle foam can match that price, I'm still not sure if I would have bought battlefoam. I haven't really looked into them that much. They seem like a great option, but the foam looks a bit too stiff. I've seen deffkopta's rotors get crushed because the foam didn't deform to match them. Things like that.
