Saw this bit on my TTGN feed, and absolutely HAD to get this out there

from TTGN

We are talking with Palladium Books about the project. We need their Help to get our much needed foot in the door for the Licensing of the project. Both Jon and I believe a solid Robotech Miniatures game is long over due and would get a lot of notice if we can get the word out. We’ve always wanted to see Robotech on the Tabletop and we hope you have also. All we are asking is that you take a minute and show your support for getting A Robotech Tabletop Miniatures game and a line of amazing miniatures produced; Let Kevin at Palladium know that your interested in seeing this happen. So please make sure to go on their forums and on facebook and leave them a comment saying: yes I want a game and those minis!

Robotech Battles project the fan-rules for using Macross moedels as a table-top game. It's these guys that are trying to make it a proper miniatures game
The Sculptor's blog

Robotech Battles have been around for a little while, but they were mostly just rules to play with your 1/144 or 1/100 model kits. They're now trying to go through Palladium and make it into an actual, licensed game, however. The game would be licensed/produced by Palladium, mostly because Harmony Gold has such a tight stranglehold on the Robotech/Macross rights (they make GW seem downright laid back about their IP). The rules would NOT be based on the Robotech RPG rules, but use the Robotech Battles as a starting place and probably need a fair amount of work before publishing.

Personally, this would be a childhood dream come true if it pans out. The only reason I got into Battletech to begin with was because it had robotech models! Well, technically macross models, but that's a whole seperate issue. It's high time we saw some actual, real Robotech figs! I want Zentraedi power armor and invid mecha and alpha fighters and cyclones and oh god, nerd overload incoming!

I've been working on the prototypes for a while, my dakka thread is here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/433584.page

I did the destroids in 3D and my fried Sean sculpted the Zentraedi pod.

I'm hoping it takes off, as I'm a huge fan of the series.

Yeah, I've seen people talk about this as basically a fan project in the past, but that's all it appeared to be, and certainly nothing on the news page. Hadn't seen the prototypes before this though, those are absolutely fantastic! When I'd looked into Robotech Battles before (D6 generation has been talking about it for a few episodes) it was mostly geared towards using the plastic macross model kits to play games with, which didn't interest me in the slightest. A RT minis game using 1/285th scale figs? Shut up and take my money!

@Laughing Man- That's why I made sure to mention the rules weren't done by palladium, I know a lot of people that have issues with palladium's system.

If they're clever they'll do the minis in roughly the same scale as BTech minis. BTech players will dive at them!

I'm really looking forward to this. This is great. I've loved Robotech since I was five, it's really hard to get across how excited I am in written format. I hope they include minis for some of the more recent macross shows.

Yeppers as long as Harmony Gold and Pally get their cut this should have np taking off. HG is known for being rather 'difficult' about licencing robotech though.

As I said in the other thread, I hope it does take off then you can expand into Masters and MOSPEADA ( my personal fav).

Nice models, but oh god, I hope you're paying Palladium for the license and they have nothing else to do with the project. I'm not sure I can handle another-

Rulebook filled with vague rants about how the writer understands martial arts better than I do,

Pointless, inelegant rules that make 20 seconds of combat into 10 minutes of paperwork,

Rules that have little relevance to the IP, like megadamage,

Random, unidentified drawings from the IP creators' sketchbook being turned into entirely new factions that never existed in the background,

and Power escalations with every book that made Codex-creep look balanced by comparison. Seriously, with Rifts they even had to publish a book with a bunch of tables showing how to use old books with new books- they were that out of synch with each other.

Theres truth in this. Even if the Robotech game never takes off the market for the Destroids would be huge within the ranks of Battletech players. The original "unseen" minis are getting hard to come by, unless you want to spend a small fortune.

On the subject of the Robotech game...pending review of the rules Id be in. Definitely in for some minis. Make the Invid and Id be a happy guy.

I actually own both of these pictured miniatures.

The Battletech Warhammer is of course painted, and one of my prized miniatures. I have another one unpainted and unassembled in a box somewhere.

The Robotech Excalibur that is pictured here looks like the master from a toy that I have. It is a small plastic pre-painted Excalibur that came in a little baggie. A friend bought it for me during a trip to Japan. It definitely wasn't bought as part of any kind of miniatures game, it is just a little plastic figure. The mold is absolutely exactly the same as the picture here.

My friend got me that miniature several years ago. It's been sitting on my desk next to my computer for a long time. I'm not at home now, so I can't take pictures.

Umm... you own a unreleased promo. Doubt it, what you should be thinking is, dam if there that close he has got skill.

I'm in for the models alone, if it a fun system even better. As for KS like other have said...

I'm not saying I own an unreleased promo. I'm saying I have a toy from Japan which is several years old and looks like it was made from the exact same mold as the Excalibur pictured here. I'll post a picture when I get home if I can find it. I boxed it up last year when I moved, but it was sitting on my computer desk for a few years before that. From memory, it doesn't look like just another Excalibur, it looks like the exact same mold. I could be wrong though.

Well being the guy who made the both the 3d model and the prototypes I can say that it's not the exact same model.

The base design is the established Tomahawk/Excalibur from Macross/Robotech so there's a huge array of models and toys that have the same overall design but each company's rendition is slightly differant. (the sizes tend to vary a bit as well)

Here's a shot of the original prints before I molded them and cast it in resin.
