Probably the original rights holder would not allow it to be published in Japan.

Good luck, keep in mind that's just a small first step.
To the folks screaming 'take my money' keep in mind this is a long shot, it's a great idea and if Voltron could be made why not Robotech.
but still, a long shot.

I've been wanting real Robotech minis for three friggin' decades. Please make this happen. I've even considered playing (shudder) Tau, because they were the closest thing I could find. Me want hordes of Veritechs and Hovertanks blasting mudholes in xenos arses. It's such a great idea for a wargame, I just wonder why it hasn't been done right yet. When it happens, I'll probably end up on welfare, broke from buying so much.

I've placed a bunch of downloads up on the facebook page. We need to collect comments and likes on facebook so that we can show how much interest there is this project. It'll help us get things rolling a bit sooner. So if you have a facebook page please visit us and leave a comment about supporting the game.

There's pics of the current prototypes posted as well as WIP 3d models. There's also some links to two sets of potential playtest rules & printable mechs.

kinda the point of the thread is that it WON'T be rolling without fans letting palladium know there is interest. Even with palladium on board, it's still no guarantee, but the possibility is there and, with support, might pull through
@paulson- thanks for the downloads! what is the difference between your version and the robotech battles? Are both sets being developed to see which is more viable or is your version just kinds your own take on the game for fun?

Tom and I had each been working on a differant rules set, this was all well prior to contacting Palladium. The systems are completely differant in terms of mechanics, I aimed a bit more for a streamline approach. I was thinking something along the lines of battletech but faster in terms of record keeping and with some warmachine type elements. I used a lot of mechanics from MSIA which was themed after gundam, but tweaked stuff to fit Robotech better. I'd wanted something that people could learn on the fly at conventions and have fun with as I don't see it being a super competitive toruney game.
Tom's Robotech Battles is a lot more complex in terms of tracking, but there's some rules that have a distinct Robotech feel. Another major difference was he was initally aiming for 1/144 scale so peopel could use model kits as the units. He's since come around to the smaller scales as it'd be difficult for people to enter into a game at that scale and price. (his rules are still set in 1/144 measurements, which needs updating) I've read through his rules but haven't had a chance to play it yet.
The stand ups I scaled at 1/285 scale so they should be in the proper height range as the minis would be, Tom also had some but thy were scaled for 1/144 models so they were pretty large. (they also looked the same on each side so it was kind hard to determine which side was a mechs rear arc) I scaled stuff to work with the 1/285 scale & measurements and fit on 40mm bases.
We're still waiting to discuss the rules with Palladium, they previous had an in house guy toying with a seperate system as well so we need to do a sit down and go over design goals and maybe cherry pick ideas from each system.
I threw some paint on one of the pods today, I'm not a pro-painter by any means but I think it's an ok tabletop quality and shows the detail fairly well. I'm working on getting some comission paint done which should look a lot better my paint job does.

I've placed an order for a spincasting machine. Giving time for delivery and to experiment with molds I should have some metal miniatures in about 6-8 weeks. I also just completed two more meshes which are headed out for printing so I should have the printed models for the zentraedi officer pod (glaug) and the phallanx destroid in about 2 weeks.
Breotan wrote:Just because the new models don't look as horrible as the old ones doesn't mean we should be lowering our standards. This new stuff is still pretty low quality sculpting.

Yes I'll be doing a version for skull one and Khyron's pod. (the officer pod was just finished and headed to printing) I'll also be doing the zentraedi female power armor for Mirya.
The plan is to make all the unique characters. I also want t do some Zentraedi soilders outside the pods. That way people can fight it out with Breetai and Khyron outside their mechs and engage in scenarios taking place inside the Zentraedi ships..

Like Jon Said, My version of the game was slated for 1/144 scale. The scale is now going to be set for the 1/285 scale. That will not change any of the horizontal distances in the game, just possibly some of the vertical ones..
The game itself is geared towards the fast paced feel of the anime and I took some influence from the Robotech: Battlecry video game. The game plays along the lines of a warmachine, 40k or infinity game. being fast paced. The new game mechanic I've provided is that you do need to track missiles once they are fired because they have a movement rate and act independently from the person firing them. Should they miss they may reacquire the enemy and try to hit again. This is alot of fun in the game and gives it the missile swarm effect that you see in the show.
The two systems were created separately and Jon's rules were created for the fun Battletech feel based off of the MSIA rules as he stated above and mine were created from scratch with Robotech combat in mind. I've looked through Jon's rules and there are some great ideas in there.
Future rules to be included in Robotech Battles include additional morale effects, rules for the remaining Mecha involved with the second half of the first robotech war, scout battlepod effects including radar jamming and lots of scenarios to play with. Should things progress further there is room for the Malcontent uprisings.
Just to clarify, We are still early in the discussion phase and should we get a greenlight from Palladium we need to get the approval from Harmony Gold.
Check out the Robotech Battles ruleset her and let me know how it plays out with the 1/285 scale figs.

Valkyrie = Wasp, Phoenix
Super Valkyrie = Phoenix LAM
Spartan = Archer
Defender = Rifleman
Tomahawk = Warhammer
Tactical Pod Glaug = Marauder
and then from the Dougram anime..
Dougram = Griffin
and I never knew the name of the Nighthawk. Never knew which animes the Battlemaster or Locust came from, but the Locust was my favorite mech hands down. I even beat the first Mechwarrior computer game with one Locust!! Paulson you mentioned Dougram, are you doing any of them? Also I was wondering if you needed to get permission from anyone for using their likenesses or are they so old that copyrights are enforced or are you just not worrying about it?
And for the record I could see myself buying a ton of the RDF pieces and a shitton of pods...if they waz in scale. Keep them in scale please!!! Make a destroid Monster!

Love the idea, love the models. Ignore anyone who says they don't look right - they look true to the original designs and keep that Japanime feeling.
Want a Monster, Valks, and Zentraedi pods. If you stray a little into Battletech territory, Battlemaster.
Would you consider doing a fleet battles type game? I would be first in the queue for a version of the original SDF-1 with the ships for arms. I can't find one anywhere these days, and you could sell both versions, ship and robot forms.
Can't do anything about registering my interest as I currently don't have internet myself, have to rely on work, and sites like Facebook are blocked. No access to Wikis, Social networking, or media sharing. (Also means I don't get to see embedded video on other sites either.)

Valkyrie
Ostroc

Ostscout
Archer
Warhammer
Rifleman
Longbow
Marauder
Marauder II
Behemoth
Then there was a long list of other mechs from other series. Read more detail here - http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Unseen
All said, I'm on board with this stuff. I got into Battletech because of Robotech and always wanted proper "pods" to use. Dark horse made some good minis back in the day for some of these. I think the work looks fantastic. Consider me a customer!

[Edit] A side note to the link. They are using current art, so they might not look exaclty as the used to, for example the Longbow doesn't look anything like the original BT sculpt/art or the Robotech model it was based from.

They are mostly stripped and boxed at the moment, but I have (at last count) 72 Mechs for each House that are period specific to 3039 and earlier. Most of them are the Unseens listed, are not repros, and aren't missing any pieces. Each force for the Houses has 8 aerospace fighters (appropriate to that House) attached. I also have each Merc unit as their TO&E stood at the time their original scenario books were printed. So again, more Unseens, usually 12 Mechs per depending on outift. My Grey Death Legion is actually in my Gallery. I also have 2 cases full of armor and infantry.
And that's just the metal stuff!
My love of the Robotech cartoons, novels, movies, art, etc... drove me into Battletechs arms over 25 years ago.
