On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

This is a 1500pt Imperial Guard army I have recently finished painting.

I wanted a mix of light infantry (so as many infantry as possible), with a Forge World/Mechanicum theme (so lots of robots and hi-tech not usually seen in an IG army!)
All in all this is probably about 2 years work (on and off), painted to a tabletop standard.

For the common infantry men I used Brettonian Men-at-Arms bodies, mixed with the gas-masked heads from Pig Iron, and normal IG Cadian arms.
Every human trooper has a gas mask of some sort, so you could imagine this force being deployed in worlds that have very bad atmospheric conditions (or as a Forgeworld planetary defense force for that matter!)

Here is the basic army list, comprising of 108 infantry in all.
- Command squad
- 2 infantry platoons (40 basic infantry) with 2 platoon command squads
- 'Sly Marbo'
- 25 conscripts lead by Commissar Lord
- Heavy weapons team of 3 Heavy Bolters
- Heavy weapons team of 3 mortars
- special weapons team of 3 snipers
- 3 Ogryns
- Leman Russ battle tank & Leman Russ Demolisher

So without further ado, lots of pics!

The complete army:

The Infantry Platoons:

Sergeant with power-maul and trooper, special weapon troopers flamer and fat guy with grenade launcher:

Some close-ups of other Infantry:

I've tried to add small extras to all of the infantry, combination of water bottles, ammo, and backpacks:

And a standard squad:

G4 unit basic system sentinels (counts as 'Conscripts'), featuring basic command & destroy software. The idea is these things are mass-produced (some of them have come straight from the forges, without even their camouflage paint added!) They are directed by the 'Droid Controller', the chap at the front of picture with the iPad (counts as 'Lord Commisar')

Close-up of conscript droids. These miniatures are the 'Terminators' from Copplestone Castings.

Heavy Bolter teams:

And Mortar teams

Model IV Heavy Attack (HA) type combat droids (counts as 'Ogryns'). These miniatures are approximate in size to an ogre, they were bought from Pig Iron.

Close-up of Sniper team, wearing camouflaged long coats. Again these miniatures were bought from Pig Iron.

The Heavy support, Leman Russ & Demolisher

Advanced prototype AX-88 'seek and destroy' droid (counts as 'Sly Marbo'). This regiment is currently under investigation by the Inquisition for the use of advanced AI routines used in this droid, the Mechanicum have so far denied access to the investigators.

The Command Squad. From left to right: Medic, Missile Launcher team, droid controller, Commander, Bodyguard, Vox-Operator

Close-up of 'Walter the Wobot' (counts as 'bodyguard'), personal assistant of the Commander

The 'Master of Ordinance'

Close-up of one of the Platoon command squads

And the 'Medical droid' attached to one of the Platoon Command squads

Any comments greatly appreciated!

Very cool! I love the idea of using droids for " conscripts " . I may have to try that myself!

Really nice feel to the army, what's the plan next?

Fantastic! A well painted, complete and fairly unique army with loads of character. Those pig iron heads really do look good. Nice job on the bases as well, especially in breaking up the large flatness that is the HW bases.

The only suggestion I can think of would be to add some more markings on the tanks, since these seem fairly plain in contrast to the rest of the army?

I like it a lot. Good colors, and you've used an extensive amount of 3rd party parts that I like.

Looks great. Did the cadian arms go straight onto the men at arms bodies or was it a bit of a struggle?

Nice army! I need to ask: Did the bretonian M@A bodies and robed legs required any greenstuf to visualy mesh them in?

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

I love the "Terminator" robots, and the idea of a squad of those controlled by a single operator seems really cool to me

Thanks very much for the comments!

I uploaded some more shots in the first post. Better photos of the Mortar teams, Master of Ordinance and Assassin Droid, as well as a new photo of a Medical Droid attached to one of the Platoon Command.

Sometimes a little around the back of the arms. On most of the bodies you could make a straight cut through the shoulder to remove the Brettonian arms, then attach the Cadian lasgun arms.

Great army. Love the robots that you are using. Only thing is for a light infantry army wish you could have found some type of robot to use instead of the Leman Russ's.

Great job though

Awesome army you've got there! Dig the non-GW models and the fluff to support them.

Also rather like the helmets and gas masks...gives the army a menacing look along with their drab paint job. Very cool stuff I'd love to see something like this on the table.

Everything is fully painted and based which is a definite plus. Loads of character with your army.

The only constructive criticism I could add would be to paint some leather colors onto the holsters and pouches etc, just to break up the monotony. Leather type colors would compliment your overall theme fairly well, I think.
