Dallas Texas

Went to go game with the BOLS people in Austin on Thursday. Got 2 Games in, Once vs JR's Sisters and the other vs. Matts Dark Eldar.

My List for Both Games

Fire dragons have str8 meltas. Eldrad gives 3 psyhic powers per turn, including fortune which allows re roll armor saves. I cast that on my seer council and shining spears, which get 3+ cover saves. Seer council gets ws5 , initiative 5, and 24 str9 attacks on the charge. shining spears get 13 PW attacks on the charge. Autarch has a melta, and 5 PW attacks.

Game Type Capture and Control 2 objectives, Spearhead deployment.

My Opponent Rolled and decided to go first.

I try to seize and fail

sisters deployment
He deploys 2 exorcists, the celestian rhino behind BLOS building, Retributors in the building in his middle, everything else he reserved, celestine deep striking. Dominions are out flanking.

Eldar Deployment


I know his firepower will eat my bikes without fortune. I put everything back behind a building, out of range of heavy bolters. I know for a fact Im out of range of the far right exorcist, but I misjudge the cloest one by about half an inch.. Fire Dragons and GJB Squad Reserve.


Turn 1 Sisters of Battle

Exorcists move 6". The Far Right One is out of range. The middle one seems to be out of range from the turret, but then he measures it farther forward on the tank and says hes in range. Its a friendly game and I dont want to complain, but he measured from the front of the exorcist, not the turret, but whatever.

He gets 1 shot. He pens with a 6, then blows up Eldrads wave serpent.




Eldar Turn 1

Welp the worst thing that could possibly happen, happened. My fortune for my deathstar unit is now not mobile, and cant follow my seer council, or my spears.

Eldrad Fortunes the Seer Council, and Fortunes the Shining Spears. My Dire Avengers get out. My Seer council and Shining Spears turbo boost. Eldrad gets into the Dire Avenger serpent, and it moves 12" behind the bikes. A little switcharoo. I then shoot scatters at the Heavy Bolters and do nothing.


Sisters Turn 2

I believe his Repentia, and Seraphim come in off the board edge on my left flank. I also believe Celestine deep strikes by my objective.

He shoots exorcists and Heavy Bolters into my Seer Council, but due to 3++ cover saves I negate the damage.

Celestine Flamers my Dire Avengers killing 3.

Eldar Turn 2

I roll for reserves and I get my 3 units. At this point im a little bit confuzled. He has a lot more squads, which results in alot more coverage. He is able to put pressure on my objective, while keeping decent force to hold his own. I can either break his left flank, or I can break his right flank. I end up choosing to break his weaker right flank, and go for a late game contest on my obective.

Both Fire Dragons and GJB squad come in right. GJB squad turbos. 1 fire dragon turbos up, while the other moves 12" to get side shots on the exorcist.

Eldrad casts fortune on both bike squads, and dooms the heavy bolter squad.

All bikes turbo towards the building with the Heavy Bolters.

Shooting at the bolters/exorcists results in nothing.




Sisters Turn 3

He gets both battle sisters in rhinos in. One comes in right, the other far left. He also gets his sisters on foot and brings them on the far right.

Repentia move up through cover, saraphim move up as well.

Exorcists shoot at my tanks and dont do anything.

Celestine moves 12" and gets a heavy flamer on the rear of my serpent. She rolls 2 6's again and blows it up. A Dire Avenger Dies.

His Squad of 10 Celestians with the Cannoness Asssault my seer council through the building. He gets his faith off which results in preffered enemy, so re roll to hits. He does an insane amount of attacksbut due to my bikes WS5 T4 3++ Saves, I think I only loose 1. My opponent was not pleased, and I think he thought he would break my squad.

My Seer council Retaliates, putting 2 wounds on the cannoness and a couple on the squad. Sisters Stick and the fight commences.





Eldar Turn 3


After loosing my defending serpent, I know that next turn I need to start turbooing over to get the home objective.

After 2 turns...its finally time to actually do something. My deathstar has finally maid it to his deployment zone, and I plan for a 600 point strike.

My Serpents move, and fire dragons get out ready to flame Exxorcists.
My Autarch and Shining Spears move to assault the bolters in the 2nd floor building.
My GJB's turbo towards my home objective in an attempt to make him think they are going there (which they arnt).

Eldrad casts fortune on both bike squads, and his transport then moves on top of cover to be able to fortune both squads next turn.

WE then get into an assault nightmare, that neither of us know what to do. My Autarch moves 12" and is in b2b with the building the sisters are in. 1 shining spear is next to him, one behind, exarch and 2 others very far behind. He first tells me I need to roll to see if I can assault. As I only need a 3, I say ok and roll a 3. WE then discuss that bikes move through difficult automatically, and dont need to test. He then says that I need to take dangerous, so I do and dont loose any of the 2 spears that moved into cover. The assault gets my Autarch, and 2 spears into the Heavy Bolter squad. I then get 3 other spears into the sisters squad. My Exarch, because he is in the back and isnt within 2" of a base to base with the building assault, apparently cant help with the celestian assault. Im not sure if this is true or not, but my opponent says in order for my exarch to assault, he needs to be within 2" of the spears assaulting the building, and because he is within 2" of the spears in the celestian assault, he doesnt get his 3 attacks. He seems Adament about it, so I say ok.

Fire Dragons destroy both Exorcists.
I then do 5 wounds on the heavy bolter squad, and 3 on the regular sister squad. I take mabe 1 in return with double fortune. Its one huge combat, and my opponent fails his leadership. I then Chase down both squads. Can bikes chase down things in close combat? I thought they could but mabe not. Bikes then consolidate away from the sisters with meltas.





Sisters Turn 4


His Repentia move up, out of cover.
His Sisters in rhino move back.
Seraphim move forward and kill 3 DAVU at my base.
Celestine moves towards my jetbikes on my table edge.
His dominions are at my base from out flanking. His left sister rhino moves up.
He shoots and kills a couple dragons.

Eldar Turn 4

Eldrad casts fortune on both bikes, and dooms the repentia on the far left.

My Guardian Jetbikes turbo boost for the top right objective. My Autarch Detaches from spears and moves behind the rhino behind the building. My Spears move 12" to get as close as they can to the sisters rhino. Fire Dragons move up with serpents to get shots. Seer council moves within 12" of the repentia squad.

Autarch shoots fusion gun at the rhino, doesnt do anything. He then assaults with laser lance, auto hits, and blows it up.
Fire Dragons shoot at Rhino , blow it up. Shining Spears assault the girls that bail out, and they get whiped.
Seer Council shoots at the Repentia, and only kill 5, they then make their assault move back.
Eldrads serpent tries to move towards my objective, it immobolizes itself, , they get out and move towards the fire dragon serpent that had turbod right next them.








Sisters 5

His Repentia and Celestine assault my jetbikes. We both dont do a whole lot and stay locked for the rest of the game.
His seraphim move into the building, loose 3 to difficult terrain, and then fail their morale test and move 15" back (lol)
His Dominion moves around, and his rhino sits on the objective.

Eldar 5

my Autarch moves 24" and escorts the seraphim off the board.
everything else lines up for shots against the sisters in the top left, through fire dragons and tank fire and a shining spear assault, I kill all the sisters on the top right objective.
GJB turbo boost to capture the objective.
Eldrad gets into serpent, and then I think it rams the immolator stunning it.
Eldrad fortunes himself, and the seer council that is locked for the rest of the game.







At this point the game is a draw, so we see if it continues, and it does!

Turns 6, 7

Eldrad gets out with scorpions, and kills immolator and dominions that shoot at the serpent and do nothing. Serpent moves 12" to contest. Serpaphim shoot my autarch with 4 melta pistols and kill him.

My opponent has 2 repentia left, celestine, seraphim, and 1 sister squad.
I have my entire army , -2 davu squads and 2 serpents.

Game Ends in an Eldar victory 1-0

First time ive tried playing the triple threat deathstar. It worked out pretty well, and I was able to smash through his entire flank. Only problems I had were lack of coverage, and problems with turn1 no fortune putting me out of position for a turn 2 assault. I think I played the game well, and didnt see any tactical blunders. My opponent is a good player and I enjoyed the game.

My next game of the night was against dark eldar.

Game 2 Against Marks Dark Eldar

Dark Eldar List

Archon with soul traper, shadowfield save, and some other upgrades
3 Venoms with 4 blaster warriors, and splinter cannons.
10 wyches, raider with lance
10 wyches, raider with lance
7 whyches, raider, lance
Warrior squad, 1 blaster, lance raider.

15 or so hellions
8 beats, none of the ones that rend
2x Ravagers, Both of them have disintigrator cannons with the str5 ap3 thing
Talos

Mission: capture and control
Deployment: pitched
I put my objective in bottom right corner, My opponent puts his in the upper middle

Eldar Win the Roll, and decide to go first.

Eldar Deployment

He has a decent Dark Eldar List. Mech Eldar typically counters dark eldar with str6 spam and our higher strength vehicles. the problem here, is that I have jetbikes, which dont do anything against dark eldar. His wyches get a 4+ invul which negates my spears. He also has disintigrator cannons which counter my bikes pretty hard. My plan here is to make a bubble around my objective. Im going to try to destroy his transports, and then Ill shoot his infantry with 20 shuriken catupults and doom support when he gets close.

I reserve my guardian Jetbikes.
I bring in my seer council to the far left to bait something over there to counter it, then ill use divination from eldrad to bring them back.
I put fire dragons in middle behind a tree for cover. Everything else I put off to the right to get cover.




Dark Eldar Deployment


He puts a raider to my far left to go after the seer council. Everything else he puts in a building. 2 Whych raiders on the top floor, everything else behind it. He Brings the helions and talos on my right with the beasts.

Eldar Turn 1


I move my seer council over to the right.
Eldrad casts fortune on both jetbike squads.
I turbo my fire dragon serpent up the middle to try to get a raider next turn, and to lure some shots. I also turbo boost my bikes to give them cover saves. I move my seer council up to try to lure something into the open. I move shining spears left a little.

I shoot what I can and manage to blow up a raider in the building. I kill 6 witches in the exposion and they break and run. They eventually run off the board in turn 2.




Dark Eldar 1

He moves everything from behind the building.
Far left Ravager moves 12" towards me and shoots at spears.
Other ravager does the same thing and shoots at spears. I think I loose 1 from fortuned cover saves.
Trueborn move towards me, they dont get out.
Through all of his shooting I think he stuns my fire dragon wave serpent, and kills 1 council and 1 spear. Casaualties were very light.
Witches get out of the raider and get a 6 for fleet, and are able to assult my seer council.
My Seer council is fortune'd and wins combat by 5 or so, breaks the witch squad, and chases them down.







Eldar Turn 2


Bikes come in from reserves.

I cast fortune on both bike squads.
I move my middle dragons towards a ravager.
I move my back dragons towards a ravager.
I move shining spears and autarch towards a raider.
I turbo seer council back.

Shooting sees 4-5 dark eldar tanks die. Each fire dragon squad blows up a ravager. My 5 tanks shoot str6 shots and end up blowing up a venom, killing 2 warriors inside the middle venom. I also destroy an empty raider, along with another venom.

My autarch who whiffed with his melta gun, then charges the raider with the archon. I hit some 6's and take the dark lance off.







Dark Eldar Turn 2

Eldrad Fortunes Seer council, and does some other stuff that I dont think made an impact.
Talos, Helions, Beasts all move forward.
Witches and Arcon get out and assault my shining spears.
Beasts are able to assault into my jetbike squad that I think is fortuned.
His shooting from his Warriors and tanks is pretty unlucky, I think he only gets a stunned result on my right wave serpent. He also kills 1 or 2 dragons from each squad, but doenst whipe either squad.

Both squads stick on the beast assult.
My Shining Spears loose their autarch and a couple others in the archon witch assault and cant hit and run now.

Eldar Turn 3


Eldrad fortunes his squad and dooms the beasts.
Fire dragons move for shots.

I start moving a dire avenger serpent towards his objective to capture it.
Seer council moves left to shoot the witches and archon when they get out of assault.
Eldrad and Scorpions get out to assault beasts.

Fire dragons both shoot at raiders and both kill the last 2 raiders.
Serpent fire kills his last venom.
Rest of my shots kill a few warriors.

Eldrad and scorpions assault into the beast squad. I win combat, and whipe them.
My Autarch dies, and the Witches and Archon consolidate towards me.








Dark Eldar Turn 3

His warriors and talos on my right side move up.
His witches move to assault my seer council.
His hellions move to assault eldrad.

His hellions move to assault eldrads unit, they score around 15 wounds but fortune saves them all with 3++ saves.
Eldrad and the 6 scorpions respond with 15 or so of their own wounds, whiping the hellion squad.

Witches assault into my seer council which isnt fortuned. They kill around 3 or 4 and I believe break the squad despite embolden. My Seer council down to about half strength or less runs off the board.





Eldar turn 4


Eldrad fortunes his dooms the witch squad.
I move my dire avenger serpent towards his objective.
Dire Avengers on my right flank get out.
Jetbikes move to shoot on my right.

Jetbikes and dire avengers shoot and kill the trueborn on the right.
My Tanks shoot and kill his remaining trueborn and warriors on the board.
Eldrad and scorpions shoot the witch squad killing a few.
Everything left in my army shoots at the witch squad and only the archon with 1 wound is left.





At this point my opponent concedes. All that remains of his army is a Talos, and he cant win. I have all 3 of my troops left, with all 5 of my tanks left.

Game Summary

Bike Eldar vs. Dark Eldar is always annoying. With the assault range on witches its almost impossible to keep your bikes out of combat, so that usually becomes a tarpit. The amount of splinter cannons that dark eldar has also puts a huge dent into your bikes.

This game went fairly well. I got first turn and was able to take out a witch squad early. I was then able to negate a LARGE amount of fire power with fortune'd cover save bikes. I think he did something like 20-30 wounds on my bikes the first turn, but I was able to negate a large portion of the damage with fortune.

My Turn 2 was pretty devastating. My dice were hot and I was able to destroy alot of his mobility.

Besides that my Eldrad unit and my seer council were pretty hot. I was able to repel 4 charges into my deployment zone.

Overall I think my opponent had a list that was around 80% optimized. The only mistake I think he made was comming in staggered. If he were able to hit me with all 3 witch squads, beasts, hellions at the same time, while having some actual lucky shots on my tanks I think I would have had problems. I also think leaving my fire dragons alive caused problems.

Army Recap

this is my first time playing a triple threat deathstar list. I played 2 enemy lists. I dont think either enemy list I played against was tournament quality, and I dont think either general played their best. I dont think I really tested the list at all. Overall I had huge probems with the lists coverage. I dont think it has enough parts to control a game, and cant spread the board like I want. I realized that in order for the list to work, I need to keep all 3 parts together. This is a problem in some situations. Mabe the list is good, mabe it isnt, we shall see in future games.

If you like these batreps, I played in a 3 game 1850 tourney this weekend, should have the batreps up tonight!

First off, very handsome army. It's different for sure (i.e. no jetbike farseer), but it seemed to have worked for you. Then again, both you and your opponent are playing somewhat exotic lists IMO from the usual "competitive" lists most people use.

Now let me address some of the rules issues here.

1) It's hard to believe that an experienced and as you call him, a "good" sisters player would measure range from the front of his tank (i.e. exorcist). Was there a misunderstanding there somewhere? Something like this, you should probably ask him why he is doing what he is doing.

2) Your description of the shining spear multi-assault (on Turn 3) is a little confusing, but from my intepretation, your opponent is right. The model has to be within 2" of a model in combat with the target unit in order to attack it. So if your autarch was within 2" of a model in combat with the retributors but 3" from a model in combat with the celestians, then he can only attack the retributors.

3) Jetbikes don't need to take difficult terrain tests to assault units in terrain. Instead, they take dangerous tests so you guys played it right the 2nd time.

You made a mistake here. When you immobilized yourself on terrain while attempting to move, then you count as moving (it's in the BRB FAQ). Thus, the unit that disembarks from the vehicle cannot more or assault. Now when you say, "move towards the FD serpent", you actually meant they ran, then it's ok.

He measured from the front where the driver is, I asked him about it and he said that was the barrell. It was a friendly game so I didnt really care.

My shining spear assaulted in a line towards the building. The Autarch, and 2 shining spears put their attacks into the retributors in the building. 2 Shining spears and the Exarch assulted into the Celestians. My Exarch was within 2" of someone in base to base with the celestians, but he was not in base to base with some1 with the retributors. He said because I wasnt within 2" of some1 with the direct assault , he couldnt put attacks into the celestians. I disagreed , but it was a friendly game and I honestly didnt need his attacks anyways.

Eldrad's unit fleet'ed towards the FD serpent.

Despite you letting all of his rule-whining go in his favor, you still won a commanding victory, well done.
That being said, quite exciting, good pictures, and niiiice paint jobs on both sides

I've been playing Eldar for just under a year now and it's always fun to read your reports. However, in your report you mentioned in every turn that Eldrad cast his psychic abilities after your units moved. I was always under the assumption that all Eldar psychic abilities that do not count as shooting must take place at the begining of the turn, mainly Doom, Guide, and Fortune.

Im glad you enjoy reading my reports that makes me more inclined to write more

When I write each turn, I say what happens in no particular order.

Thats a really valid concern, but I cast em at the beggining I just write the report out of sequence.

Love the list too. Unique, too bad it didn't really perform well enough for your standards. I'll be excited to see how it does against some tougher tourny lists.
