Are you freaking kidding me?

Should have been:

April 01: "Robin Cruddace fools you all and tells you no more than what has already been known about the empire"

[/rage]

*sigh*

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.

If you look around online you can find pretty much all you need to know, mainly that the Empire have a case of the Tyranids...

State Troops (with the exception of spearmen) went up in price by 1 pt per model on average
Detachments no longer get automatic flank counter-charge
Greatswords about 12/13pts per model
Mortar is a strength 2 stone thrower, went up 20 pts
STank is now T6... same as a Gryphon... (and Cruddances absolute obsession w T6 continues on its trend...)
Warrior Priests lost hatred

and some other stuff... the only thing Im impressed by is Witch Hunters being really awesome character killers

That's my point. They talk about fluff that already existed forever and say NOTHING about the rules that everyone actually wants to hear about.

The least they could have done was "the new "blahblahblah" is a "blahblah Unit type" that has a special rule "blahblah" which does "blahblahblah"

Yea from what I hear, he ****ed it up BAD.

The only hope is that we find something about wizard engines or captains on Griffons that is just completely overpowered to balance the nerfs.

T6 Stank still pisses me off though. Does Cruddace even know about the overabundance of S5+ in today's meta?

I want to know what his justification was for making a piece of armorplated machinery the same toughness as a gryphon or any number of other meatbag-esque creatures...

I wouldnt go that far... I think the Guard book is fairly broken, the difference is that its broken in two directions (some choices being overpowered, others woefully under) as opposed to one. In any case, it plays to the current meta very well. The Empire though... it has like 6 or so core choices of which the only really viable ones are Knights and Spearmen, everything else simply costs too much for what you're getting (hell, the argument can be made that the spearmen cost too much too, a skaven clanrat costs less IIRC and has a better statline...).

He also did Tomb Kings. . . .

That got the intro movie where he said they did not understand their own magic or how it worked.

At least they pretty much got an army wide buff (they are actually reasonably balanced now!)... but he would have to have been a special kind of stupid for it to have been anything else given their sad state beforehand

He did Tombkings and gave a big stone cat T8
He did Empire and gave a tank T6

Can I start complaining about my Abombs only being T5 yet?

Seriously, let's wait to see what it COSTS before we actually call it nerfed. If it costs anywhere close to the Abomb's price, we're going to hear complaints about how it's utterly broken and undercosted(like the Abomb).

No it wont be cheap enough. The Abomb moves randomly so units can't just stay out of its arc of sight like you would against a Stank. Also no charge reactions allowed, so no fleeing and no shooting. THAT is what makes the Abomb good for its cost. Not its statline.

Plus, skaven have the best infantry in the game (slaves). Our basic units will be TRIPLE (or more!) the cost of that with 1 Less movement, Initiative, Leadership (once Grey Seer + Strength in Numbers is put into account VS a Ld 9 General) and all we have to gain is 1 Weaponskill (or 2 if you are Swordsmen) plus a pathetic armor save.

Then you compare our troops again to Khorne Marauders with GW which are technically ~5.5 points each (I hope this doesnt count as giving up points costs, it really isnt....). They get +1 Attack, +1 WS (except vs Swordsmen), +2 Strength (+1 if comparing to Halberdiers) and the ASL means nothing because of step-up.

You entirely missed my point, but that may be my fault, as I meant to say cost and final rules.

The whole "Steamtank is nerfed!" complaints so far have mostly all centered around the fact that it went from T10 to T6 and therefore sucks despite us not knowing what else they might have done to it and there are plenty of models being complained in other armies about that share or have lower toughness.

I'm saying, let's wait until we see the whole package before crying doom and gloom about T6, but I know that's way too much to ask the internet.

I heard it had to do with artillery dice, and if you roll more than your wounds you suffer a "Stank Misfire Chart" roll. Unsure about how exact this is.

That is NOT good news.

It's on an ARTILLERY die now?! If you suffer a single wound, you have a 33% chance for a misfire (10 or misfire result). That's NOT cool....Glad I don't like the Stank anyways. I'm bummed about detachment rules going down-what was he thinking?! Detachments gaining their parent unit's special rules and being able to counter charge was about the only reason to justify their increase in cost. Now I'm kinda annoyed...and here I thought Cruddace wrote something decent and the internet was just doing its typical whine-fest....

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yes, from what the rumor mill is churning out. And you have to roll every time you generate steam, regardless of how much steam you generate (although more steam can make a worse misfire result). It's a different mechanic, but I'm not sure it makes the STank unplayable. That's the fault of T6.

I'm more upset about the mortar nerf. Increased points, decreased strength, this is not a good thing. At least we get more bound spells now (lolwut??).

Still holding out some hope once I get my hands on the book, but right now I'm simply glad I've got my O&G army. At least they're fun when they lose.

Ah this is really depressing. I've only been into Fantasy for a year or so and have been looking forward to a new Empire book, only to discover that my only Fantasy army is about to get worse. I agree with Biccat though, I hope that when I get hold of it there will be a couple of pieces of good news for my knights, Steam Tank and Artillary heavy army. I at least hope that it will still be fun.

Maybe dissatisfied Empire players and TK players should get together and use their old army books instead of CRUD-ace's abortions.

I like the new TK book. But a local tournament coming up gives a 30 day grace period for old army books. So Trip Mortars Dual Stank and a Waralter here I come!

Be mean. He destroyed our army book.

I honestly hate Cruddace more than Matt Ward now. Matt Ward writes HORRIBLE fluff, but at least his rules are fine (although often overpowered)

Cruddace obviously does not know anything about playing warhammer. "Mortars are overpowered? Better make them useless!"

Actually, these comments are generally based on people who do have the book - or at least attest that they have the book.

After taking 1 wound it has a 33% chance of being useless and taking more damage each turn

After taking 3 Wounds it has a 50% chance of being useless and taking more damage each turn

Essentially, the thing is worthless for any more than 200 pts now
