Yes, but most of us installed the bare minimum of wheels to do the job, and kept the rest for other projects.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

I loved this kit, all the way up until they released the new version for idiots. The new one really takes the fun out of the model IMHO. I loved the intricacy ond time it took to build the older version, and I'm a very young gamer so don't remember the times of bright red boxes!
The new one is just too simple. Some bits I like, I like the new turret shape, I like the sponson options and I like the variants.
However I do not like the newer Chimera. I was wanting to convert a hydra by setting the turret part of the chimera at the back, however now it is in few large parts instead of the older, more numerous smaller pieces, making the conversion much more difficult. Now i am searching in vain for an old-style chimera that is unmade. Really annoying. However I look forward to seeing you build this. Its a good model that stood the test of time fairly well.

The turret-shape on the new russ SUCKS IMHO.

..and don't even get me started on the phallic-looking limp pecker-plasma variant!

I had the stone roses ('Love Spreads') on while I was reading that - feels like I'm back in the 90s!

Just to make you feel old - I was born in 1989. I was 5 the first time you opened one of these kits, and I'm graduating uni in a month's time

Really interesting stuff though, thanks for posting! Seems like GW's attitude to their customers has changed a lot in the last nearly 20 years!

So, I'm a little ADD when it comes to projects, I tend to jump around a lot as idea come into my head. Over on the Great Marine Swap, Whalemusic360 put up an offer to swap Land Raiders. Since I had a spare one that I was going to turn into scenery, I figured it would be a good one to use in a classic "Grand Salvage Project". I really enjoy these projects, taking beat up discarded job lots, and turning them back into play pieces.

First, a shot of a terrain inventory I took. Note how amazingly unfinished EVERYTHING is. But, I now have the makings of four 4x6 tables, no problem. I like making 'themed' tables (as opposed to tournament tables), so expect some silliness coming your way as I convert a Chaos Skull thingy into a massive Necron Tombworld.

Next up, the pre-salvage shots:

And the post-salvage shots. There's more detailing to add, as it will be a Dark Angels vehicle. I have a bunch of DA bits lying around.

Two other items of note:

ORDINATUS UPDATE:

I made another missile, and proved that the design works, and is easy to replicate. I am waiting on parts for the other four missiles, as I scavenge the internets for cheap Manticore/Deathstrike bitz. I think I'm pretty close. I fiddled with some designs for the launch rails, and I think I have a design that makes me both HAPPY as well as allowing me to remove the missiles as they are fired.

Rules-wise, I downloaded the old VDR rules, unshelved my Apocalypse books, and I'm fiddling with points and designs. I'd like to thank EVERYONE who made suggestions. I am torn between a couple of "Shield Designs". As for the missiles themselves, it is clear that some form of "I launch, you lose" rule keeps coming up. I mean, that's the scale of this thing. So, I'm thinking about two options for the Datafax. Option one, "I launch, You lose", which makes the thing simply an objective to annihilate. IE: Starting turn two, didn't move, target locked, FIRE. This represents the Ordinatus leveling some enemy city, landing zone, etc. This rule would be applied to ANY Ordinatus I build. Option two, "Cleans the Heretic" allows for the firing of individual missiles in a controlled manner. Several missiles would be listed, including Apocalypse Barrage, and Vortex. Basically, load it up and go. It'll have similar rules, but you CAN try and fire turn one. The "Target Lock" rule will allow you to fire 1d3 missiles of your choice, as long as the missiles are of the same type, blah, blah.

I'm less happy with option two, so that'll take the most twiddling.

I should have a design for the launch rails mounted by the end of the weekend, for the center launch rails and two missiles.

MAILING UPDATE:

I owe a bunch of packets to a few people, so I'm gathering bits up and my lovely SO is out picking up a bunch of mailing envelopes for me. EXPECT BITZ SOON.

Aaaand...that's about it!

In Service,
--B.

I know, it's great, isn't it? I think it is the silliest Land Raider variant GW's ever published, feels like a 13 year old came up with it. "What...what if I put more Lascannon sponsons on it...and replaced the heavy bolters with....MORE LASCANNONS!".

Except I didn't have the "Conversion Kit".

BUT! Since the front hatch is firmly glued shut, my salvage options were limited. And I did have a lot of spare sponsons lying around...
