Cheers - hopefully the long weekend and rubbish weather forecast for the South East will mean progress...
lone dirty dog wrote:Firstly finish the bloody Pinner boat been waiting for ages to see that complete
Now to the new project what are you doing to the wheels ? I can't figure out for the life of me what you are doing to them ?
Ahh, the Pibber... Need to get my maritime hat back on for that one...
As to the wheels on the Taurox - I'm not sure either, was trying to work out a way of fixing them to the existing axles, but I'm not satisfied with how they'd look, so likely to scrap and make something from scratch (maybe I should have bought the full Zinge conversion kit...)
Theophony wrote:Nice rims , will it be a daulie n back ( stacked tires, so 4 on the rear axel per side, or just two tires on each side in the back.
Nope, not stacked... Going for a 6x6 MRAP, and will need to extend the existing chassis to accommodate the extra set off wheels
Littletower wrote:Zinge bits look great, I like the 6-wheeler idea.
Neat adecuation job on the rims so far.
I have no idea what 'adecuation' means but thanks (I think)

There will be a lot of extra plastic but it's slooooooow going at the moment - I'm certainly no Klaus, not Santa or Camkierhi when it comes to speed building... So here's the miniscule amount of progress - have basically lengthened the chassis to cater for the extra set of rear wheels.. (Note: the sides, cab front and rear are not glued on yet) I've also, since taking these pics, chopped the doors off as they don't fit the aesthetic that I'm going for here and started to build out the extended sides of the rear bodywork - more pics and progress to come...

Well it is a great start. Lengthening the Taurox seems the way to go. Considering the bad press the kit gets, a lot of people have bought it to convert, and most come out pretty great. This is no exception, I think you are on to a winner bud, watching eagerly.
PS. made my day being mentioned in YOUR blog in the same sentence as Klaus. I know it is just my speed your talking about, but still made my day. Been having a rough time lately, bit too tired, and a bit too critical of my own work. Really gave me a boost, thanks.

Cheers guys - as to the height, yes it is pretty tall at the moment and I may well cut that down - to give you an idea of where this Taurox will end up, some of the build inspiration is from a Russian Typhoon-U...

I'm seeing more of a deuce and a half than a MRAP, at least for the moment. Ah, the bottom of the vehicle needs to be 'V' shaped if it is to be a MRAP.
The good news is that it looks nothing like a taurox. Good progress though.

Liking it more with the reduced height once the wheels are on, might have been too tall otherwise.
Door are coming along nicely too, good job there so far.

Perfectly balanced. Looks stunning. Always amazes me how good this kit looks once a decent modeler gets hold of it. Makes you wonder just how sick the guy who originally designed it must feel. Let's go with 'loosely based on an MRAP then We have a hybrid here...

Cheers LT, I made the classic mistake of measure once, cut twice - luckily being too tall meant I have room to rectify the mistake...

LOL, right - pig ugly was an oft used term when it was first showcased - the ultimate sin in my books where the tracks. What was the design team on when they came up with those...

Thanks AoV... It might not be too binged given the ultimate end use for the vehicle, which is yet to be revealed ...

Quick update with blurry pics (sorry)...
Did some work this evening on the housing for the axle / driveshaft thingy (engineering terminology escapes me at the moment). All the intricate workings are safely boxed in to be mine proof, will progress on this with some suitably heavy duty suspension, but need to work out how to do that (it won't be working suspension...)
And with the wheels in place...
Have decided though, the wheels are too wide !! I bought the 27x15mm military wheels from Zinge, but should have got the thinner versions - 27x10mm - so new order will be happening soon

Struggling to get the creative juices flowing at the moment (and it has nothing to do with a recent vote...), so have decided to check out my pile of plastic and see if I can find something to inspire me back into action... Hmm... not sure Nothing's piquing my interest... Maybe I should open this for a public vote - any suggestions?
