I'll be honest I had it all on to get my titan done for this morning, so I was mostly grinding gather quests. I'm finding Palicos very very annoying though.
My most recent plot thing was the other villages becoming places I can travel to.

*Leo has sunk into couch and watching TV peacefully while keeping an eye on the rose on the table*

But yeah, Palico's are definitely annoying, but the game becomes 100% harder without them. Plus you can give them really spiffy armour later on

But yeah, if I was to recommend anything, it would be gather as much as you can early on. It becomes really tedious at higher levels.
And believe me, the Palico's get worse when they start hitting you...

ooc: It's stuff like bones and minerals and berries, i rarely seem to find uses for them, but I find loads. Also does your bag ever get bigger?

OOC BC you could join a room with me and gather while I kick the monsters ass. And no but there is a cat at base camp who can deliver stuff back to you chest.

Blue mushroom + herb = potion
Potion + Honey = Mega potion
Those are pretty much the only things you will be combining early game.
Keep all of the minerals, you need them to upgrade weapons pretty soon. Bones are also used for this reason.

Right now, I would say go and hunt a Great Maccao(KangaMonster). It's good practice, and it will be dropping better items, which you could probably use to make better weapons, to kill them even faster.

And I tried farming Maccao and the fething cat repeatedly killed too many of the main questline dinosaurs first and I nearly threw the DS. QUEST COMPLETE No I was busy doing a thing. feth you.

OOC You need to unlock the urgent to have a quest where the big guy is the target. Just do all the quests.

ooc: The giant tantrum kangaroo. There's one quest that's like "kill 15 diddy ones and hit the big one in the face". My cats rack up too many small kills before I can deck the big one.

And yeah, I use the chest.

OOC You don't have to do the quests in order. And you don't have to do all of the quests to unlock the next star. Just search up 'village key quests MHGEN', and it'll give you all the quests you need to complete to advance rank.

Unless you're a completionist, which in that case, I can't help you there.
