What's your preference? I'm more of a buffalo kind of guy, as you get the weird buffalo flavor (which I will defend to my dying day is the taste of the spirits of buffalo elders, despite the lack of any buffalo parts in the sauce) and a bit of heat.

Depends on what I'm eating. If I'm eating mexican food, hot sauce. If I'm eating wings, buffalo sauce.

Whoa now, hold the phone. Are you saying you use hot sauce (i.e. the straight-up liquid red/ whatever color stuff) on Mexican, or hot sauce as in salsa?

Buffalo is one of many lovely varieties of hot sauces. Different sauces are appropriate for different dishes.

Classic Buffalo sauce is hot sauce + butter + red wine vinegar. It's awesome on wings and other uses of chicken.

I usually keep Frank's Red Hot (the hot sauce component of classic Buffalo) and Cholula Mexican hot sauce as the standard basic hot sauces in my fridge at all times. More interesting and unique sauces get tried out and enjoyed, but those are the standbys. I use the Cholula as a complement to salsa with chips and other Mexican-style dishes. Frank's goes great on chicken and pizza and anything else that just needs a dash of hot.

neither....both. To me buffalo sauce IS hot sauce, it's not like adding butter really makes it it's own class of sauce. I love the new Franks commercials because I do put that gak on everything. When I trek to strange and interesting places and have to depend on the government to feed me I carry Tapatio because it's easier on the stomach and GI. I especially like Franks on chicharones. When it comes to wings I am a solid traditionalist. I want naked fried drumettes, and a bowl of buffalo sauce and a bowl of ranch.
If we are talking about what kind of hot I prefer: Curry. Madras Curry.

My "hot sauce" of choice is Tabasco, just because I think it has a great mix of some heat while still having a good taste. I know that there are plenty of hotter sauces out there, but I like the taste component of good old Tabasco.

Then there is the awesomeness that is Rooster Sauce that just makes Chinese food pretty tasty.

One of the wing places near my house does twice fried wings in buffalo sauce...absolute ambrosia.

My hot sauce of choice is scotch bonnet sauce. A little less habanero kick, and sweeter while still being spicy.

That said, I love hot sauce and spicy food in general. I knock back blazin wings from Buffalo Wild wings and Atomic wings from wing stop by the dozen.

What kind of hot sauce are we talking about?

There are times when I want Spicey BBQ on my chicken wings and time when I want Buffalo sauce on my chicken wings. Either way, I want them served to me by a young lady in a body tight t-shirt and tiny shorts.

Ugh. There's far, FAR better wings out there than hooters.

Wingstop comes to mind... though admittedly I don't know how national they are (being started by a former Cowboys quarterback; there's some locations on the coasts and in the south, less in the north).

You talking about Sriracha? Because that stuff is amazing. Best hot sauce ever.

Tabasco Sauce is watery and bland... what is this "good taste" it's supposed to have again?

I happen to like hooters wings; there are better out there, but few of those places have a good rendition of wings and fried pickles. Lately the girls leave a lot to be desired...in looks and brains. I ordered a drink and presented my .mil ID, she looks at it knits her brows, flips it over a few times, and you can almost see the smoke coming out of her ears. "You're from Geneva?!?" fething amazing. /rant off.

Ever considered that eating such thing is bad because you support evil torture and suffering of the chickens?

If the chickens don't like being eaten, maybe they should evolve and do something about it.

Until then...yum.

IIRC, Hooters brings in a traveling team of ringers when opening new restaurants. Then they work in the local talent. So the best time to go is when a restaurant first opens.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of their breaded wings. Yuck.

I find that Frank's fills most of my hot sauce needs. Siracha is great to add an Asian flavor/kick, and for adding heat while cooking, AustonT is dead on with the Madras Curry. Think I will do Captain's Chicken for dinner tomorrow...

I honestly wasn't aware that buffalo sauce was made this way. I'm still sticking to the flavoring being the result of buffalo spirits, but I'm going to have to try making my own buffalo sauce at some point in time.

Franks red hot is the only sauce I use, both for wings and for any other hot-sauce based needs.

So...both.

Also:

Considered it, but I don't care enough about chickens to be bothered.

Dammit Sharky, we seem to agree to much lately. Exactly what he said. But Ill add Snyders pretzel bits to the buffalo sauce list. Those are easily my fave snyders to eat hands down, you can actually taste the butter in the mix, its just crazy

I've never actually gone to a new Hooters. The one in Savannah had some real lookers. The one that is a 5-10 minute walk from AZ State, where I'm fairly certain hotties breed by fission, sucks. So do the ones in Glendale and Phoenix...it's sad really. All the potential Hooters girls are probably working in the entertainment industry if you know what I mean.

I really only eat boned wings in bars and at home. After more than one feather incident at various restaurants I go boneless.
