With the release of 6th edition, I estimate that psykers will prove to be a huge part of the new edition. So I was wondering whats the best way to use and counter psykers as well as what disciplines to use. I'm particularly curious about the Primaris psyker and Librarian.

Divination is excellent with powerful shooty units. It can offer attack rerolls, ignore cover, and full ballistic skill for overwatch.
Psycannons, long fangs, sternguard, fire dragons and dark reapers can all benefit greatly from such buffs. Using allied Librarians or Farseers can also benefit blasterborn, guardsmen or most Tau units.

+1
For an army like Grey Knights, a Mastery 2 or 3 Librarian has a very good chance of getting at least 2 useful powers out of the Divination tree, since the Primaris power is always a choose-able option.

My tactic is to roll on the Pyromancy Discipline because it has the best odds of getting something that is useful to my Primaris Psyker.
I would have liked to see the Primaris Psyker get a Mastery Level of 2 as i was looking forward to a Psyker centric Guard army (also Invisibility on a Power Blob would rock) but i'll keep reading over the rules and play a couple of games and see what i can do.
Peace Out!

Of course Divanation is the one category my imperials DON'T Have :(
I've been thinking for my primaries poker doing a roll on both the pyromancy and telepathy charts. Any preferred disciplines for a Vanilla Marine Librarian???

There Are some nice psychic powers to buff the psyker itself with Biomancy, This could be could on some of the close combat orientated psykers (Broodlords, Hive Tyrants, Space marines). I noticed there are lots of ranged abilities, which are good for some Imperial Guard armies. Im not quite sure where to put Telekinesis, it sounds a bit random to rely on.

IMO It's all about divination. Following that, telepathy is nuts. However, if you're playing Nids, nearly every Biomancy Power is ridiculously appealing. Pyro and TK are okay, but not nearly as attractive.
I see a lot more furioso librarians showing up on the table...

You either pick from your codex or from the main disciplines. But you can mix and match between disciplines if you wish.

Oh man...
Divination has guide as it's primaris power, and Telepathy has Psychic shriek, two very psychic abilities which can be selected by default.
Divination has really only one power that I would be upset to randomly generate, and I'd be more than happy to trade it for guide... meanwhile Misfortune is deadly, foreboding is deadly, forewarning is incredible, and precognition is nuts.
Telepathy has Dominate which, while not garaunteed, is an amazing debuff, puppetmaster which is terrifying, terrify which is the ork-killer, Invisibility, and the ultimate power hallucination.
A furioso librarian with an invulnerable save that can reroll all hits, wounds, and saves is freaking terrifying... imagine that thing showing up in the middle of your army!

With a warp charge of 2 with my aspiring sorcerers I am thinking of using telepathy since all of the abilities are very useful. Removing the fearless rule? Holy sh*t. time to sweeping advance my templar friend. Invisible khorne berserkers? Yes please! Puppet master is also very cool, though hard. I really wanna see the look on my opponent's face when I take over his lascannon marine to blow up his own predator.

You either pick from your codex or from the main disciplines. But you can mix and match between disciplines if you wish.
Why? The book says you can take from several disaplines; why can the codex not count for this?
With several named psykers, combining the codex powers and the diciplines, they would be entirely broken.
These charts are great for Primaris Psykers, vanilla libbys and non-named psykers. These actually hurt armies like the Eldar as they have to sacrifice their most useful powers to wind up not being as effective anyways. Sure the Guide Deluxe is nice, but losing doom and hoping for the quasi-equivalent of Fortune is not sound strategy. I look forward to taking a Primaris, probably going to roll on Telepathy chart twice and call it a day.

I'm having a hard figuring out where you got that they have a warp charge of 2? Mark of Tzeentch just improves their invulnerable save. Their entry says that they are psykers and must pick ONE power from the list therefore making them Mastery level 1 with a warp charge of 1. Granted, just because the must pick one, doesn't mean they CAN'T pick another, but if an opponent pulled that on me I'd call shenanigans.
Thanks in advance for helping a newbie like me out!

It's a tad hard to find, but under the psychic powers section of the CSM codex ( AFAIK), it states that models with Mark of Tzeentch can cast two powers per turn. Thus, a model with MoT is Mastery 2 if it's a psyker.

Bearing in mind that you would still only get 1 discipline power because you can only buy one to exchange for the Aspiring Sorcerer.

I've been using a dual thousand sons list with 2 sorcerers and rolling everything on the telepathy table. If I don't get hallucination or invisibility, I switch for the base power since it's an amazing ranged attack.
The sorcerers also try for hallucination. Shutting down the enemy is far more powerful than re-rolling to hit. Thousand sons are the new kids on the block for psychic powers.

Pyromancy is the only one that seems -really- underwhelming. One power is a flamer, one is a meltagun...they really got lazy there.
But yes, Divination and Telepathy are where it's at.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.
In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos. |

It's a little better than a meltagun as it's a beam which can hit a few models at a time, but yeah, the Nova power and the Buff are pretty much the interesting ones there. Pyromancy is IMO the lowest tier, only helpful to armies that don't have access to it anyway. That buff is great though.

Pyromancy is the most consistant, imo. Saying that it is lazy because 2 of 7 powers are simular to purchasable wargear is dumb. As stated above, that "melta gun" is a beam allowing you to tag multiple units and the "flamer" is a Heavy Flamer profile with Soul Blaze which is a nice special rule. Firey Form is great for a close combat Psyker. Fire Sheild is great for protecting a unit. Inferno is a great GEQ killer. Spontaneous Combustion is a great way to snipe models. Sunburst hits every enemy unit in 6" potentially giving your units the advantage they need in close combat. It's all about the types and special rules. Pyromancy may not contain the best spells but it is a safe bet to roll on when you are looking to do direct damage. Peace Out! Jonny!

Invisibility rocks as well, especially if you use it on a squad with conceal or other cover save enhancers (like camo cloaks).

Puppet master is my favorite spell as there is no limit to how many times you can control a unit in one turn. I just made a necron monolith fire a flux arc on its own wraiths 4 times (with different psykers) about an hour ago. as a Tyranid player, I must also say that Biomancy is amazing, but only really for Hive Tyrants, Tervigons, and swarmlords. not so much for Guard.
