I used to use Firefox for my browser, but when my computer died and my tech savvy friend set it all back up for me he installed Chrome and insists I should use that instead. Is Chrome really that much better than Firefox or is it just a matter of preference?

I used to use FF as well, but I switched to chrome after that unstable period FF had and haven't looked back. I think it's preference up until IE is concerned.

I tried to use Firefox for a little bit, but I hated it and went back to using Safari.

I for one prefer chrome, it was a little dodgy in its first year but after the kinks had been worked out I preferred it over FF

I use all four -- Chrome, Safari, FireFox and Widows Explorer.

Right now Chrome has become my favourite. It's slicker and faster with a lot of "professional" web interfaces I have to use at work.

For general browsing, I like the way you type queries right into the URL field rather than going to a separate field. It's surprising how quickly you get user to that convenience.

All that said, I don't feel I've gone back into the middle ages if I use a different browser. I prefer the pinboard interface for favourite sites on Safari, for example.

Chrome can crash the operating system on Mac OS so I'd watch out if using it there.

I find FireFox still more customisable but can get sluggish on an older machine.

I use Chrome as I find it a lot faster than Firefox. Haven't tried Firefox in a while, but I haven't felt the need to. Chrome is perfectly good, and it's features match my needs.

Not quite at religious levels for it, though... It is just a browser, after all.

This is where I'm at, although I have considered trying others due to a slight niggle with the recent redesign of the tab and bookmarks bit.

Yeah I have heard some people have a hard on for it, I am not computer savy enough though, I just like chrome because It seems quicker than IE and has a built in spell checker.

IE might have as well mind, I would presume so in this day and age.. but I cant find the fether anyway!

EE, and Safari, can't stand either of them.
Opera I've not used.

Alright, quick Chrome question then. How do I get that stupid bar on the bottom to go away by itself or simply never show up when I download something or save a picture? It annoys me...

Also, can I set which page a new tab defaults to when opened?

Probably work

I think I like Chrome more, but it ties in with the global Windows proxy settings, unlike Firefox, which allows for it's own configurable proxy rules. With Foxyproxy, I have done strange and wondrous things while at work to allow myself to get to a handful of sites previously unreachable, and I can also route to proxies that are much faster than our default. You can't do that in Chrome.

I use IE for everything except some DLs, which I find FF's download history a little better for if I don't want to save them to my PC.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I use em all, depending on what I'm doing at work. I wish IE didn't exist :(

At home though I mostly use Chrome, but at work I mostly use Safari. Dunno why, just one of those things.

Firefox is a good browser though... but nothing is perfect. I really don't think there's any big difference between Firefox, Chrome and Safari, just pick the one you like best.
