There are some pretty creepy things in video games, but some are creepier than others. So what is the creepiest thing you or someone else found in a video game? It could be something you have to find, like an easter egg, or it could just be a creepy element of the story. It could even be something which isn't actually an easter egg, but is quite subtle and that you have to look for. It could even be something where you have to rummage through the game code to find, like a hidden unused sound file.

Also, you don't have to have found it yourself. It could be something you saw in a youtube video, or that a friend found.

My vote goes to GLaDos's design-If you look closely, it suspiciously resembles a bound and gagged woman.

I personally was creeped out by greater bonewalkers in Morrowind. Not only did they look creepy, and totally butt raped your stats, but that breathing sound they did just made them the whole package.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

When I was younger that would probably have to be the Harem level in Diablo 2. Dead guards and harem girls everywhere. Then there's Max Payne, that game was just plain overall creepy and wrong, especially the cult levels and your character reliving the murder of his wife and newborn baby while on some sort of hallucinogenic drugs. You have to follow a blood trail of all things in order to get out of that part.

Ghostbusters the Video Game that recently came out had the Thirteenth Floor, where the walls are all jagged and twisted, everything's covered in Spiderwebs, and the Spider Witch is constantly hounding you in a whispering seducer drawn out voice. It's pretty messed up. Nothing else in the game was that creepy.

Also, the Doll Master from Alice: Madness Returns.

1) Pretty much everything from Old World Blues becomes creepy in some way when you think about it.
2) The noises that Headcrab Zombies make in HL2 when you play them backwards.
3) This picture from Luigi's Mansion. Pay special attention to the shadow and notice that it looks like it's been hung.

This things been stalking you for the entire game up to this point, you cant look at it for very long without losing your mind, your guy is about 75% insane at this point, and the monster itself is fking insane

the video is a little blurry, but your vision goes blurry when you start losing your mind in the game, so you cant get a good look at it.

it doesn't look like much anymore, but I highly, highly suggest this game for anyone, ever.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

The entire game. Other than F.E.A.R., it's the only game that's actually scary. There are parts of the game where my heart was racing and my palms were sweating and I got that weird metallic taste in the back of my mouth. So. Friggin'. Good. And they're making a sequel!

Spoiler:

This guy from Resident Evil: 4.
I was fine with the entire game until towards the end when your walking down a corridor and you here a second set of footsteps. Then heavy breathing kicks in, then you're impaled on that dan beast.

I hated it.

the first creepy game is an easter egg in Black and White. If you enter your name and it is on the predefined list of names in the game, the game will randomly whisper your name while you play. Now imagine gaming late at night for a few hours to randomly hear your named whispered. freaking creepy.

IF you have not played Dante's Inferno then you are missing out on what is probably the most disturbing/creepy and most controversial games i have ever played. the game is based upon the book with the levels being designed around which part of Hell you are in, the latter levels are designed around each of the deadly sins. The monsters you encounter follow some of the people or things you would encounter from the book.

one of the first things you encounter in Hell are the Unbaptised Babies.

http://www.superwinkel.com/Winkelman_Anim_DantesInferno.html

the link has the walk cycle for the Unbaptised Baby. In the making of videos they have for this game it was explained that they used a real child in a motion capture suit to get a life-like walk.

Eternal Darkness on the GameCube had some really good insanity effects.

Playing the first AvP on the PC as the Marine with all the lights out and surround sound is a pretty tense experience as well.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

do me a favor

give it a chance, the first few (and last 1-2) sections are not scary, they are setting the tone, explore a bit in the beginning, start to understand whats going on. Its also a little unforgiving in some sections that you'll die a bunch.

Let me know if the first "combat" sequence makes you panic

Then game crashed.

Enjoyable though.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

F.E.A.R 1, early on in the game. You just showed up to that building (can't remember the name of it) and you're strollin down a corridor, absoutely nothing has happened so far, and your just walking down this hallway when BAM...dead body falls out of the ceiling. It made me jolt really hard in my seat and I dropped the controller. Absolutely scared the crap outta me haha.

That and all of the shodow temple in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Hated that place...

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

System shock 2

2 instances - The science lab at the start. You can hear the screeching and noises of the dissected brain monkeys, at this stage you haven't got a ranged weapon and they are really mean on ranged weapons, so you move forward, and BAM, the decking falls from under you, and you enter their main den.

Then, the big reveal. You've been following this girl, Dr Politburo up to the 3rd deck. You finally get to her office, and you find a dead body. So you turn around to get out of her office, and the door locks and the whole screen turns into SHODAN.
