The eye of terror

Hey, all!

Here I would like to get to know what people feel are some of the worst or most pointless units or models to have in your army, and why.

For example, I will point to the chaos spawn unit in the CSM codex.

Costing at 40 points, you get an incredibly useless model.
It has no ranged weapons, has the "Slow and Purposeful" special rule, and must always move towards/try to assault the closest enemy. They can never be used as scoring units, and have WS:3 S:5 T:5 W:3 I:3 Ld:10 no saves, and D6 attacks.

It has no tactical use, moves too slowly to ever be able to get into combat, and for 40 points, I could have a rhino with two twin-linked bolters.

If you see slaanesh, just look away.

For the SoB, I nominate the Canoness.

50% of a Space Marine Captain for 90% the point cost, and utterly useless because the last "Codex" stole 90% of her wargear options.
Aside from the fluff, there is literally not a single reason not to take one of the special characters as they offer so much more to the army.

The Ethereal/Aun va. They actually make your army WORSE when they are put on the field. Plus, if they die, everyone takes a morale check and those that pass get furious charge. Whoopie!

Spawns are great when you create them in the middle of a melee by using the Gift of Chaos power. ^^
Then they are free! Also Ahriman can use said power three times a turn, so more free units every turn!

The pyrovore is right up there. It basically has a flame thrower and power weapon ability at... 1 attack at I1 and WS3. It is more dangerous to Tyranids units than anyone else if it explodes and you can't even make it explode when you want it to it has to be an ID attack to even have a chance to go kaboom all for the low low price of 5 points more than a Spawn if I remember right.

I'll tell you what suck, Rippers, Skyslashers and Spore Mines.

The 1st is a troops swarm that can't claim objectives and is completely useless. At least it is cheap troops to open the other slots. The second is the same but flies. But is FA so the one reason to take them is invalid. The 3rd are suicide bombers who do weak damage for a FA slot. You give up Shrikes, or Harpies now who can make their own spore mines.

WS4 S4 AP- attacks.
A "cool" shooting attack that you wouldn't get to use unless you deploy them with haemy, but then you lose their infiltrate rule. Or you kill an enemy unit with their amazing S4 attacks.
Low initiative(per DE standard).
Can't take dedicated transport.
No grenade.
Fight for the important elite slot.

And then we might as well add Kheradruakh to the list too, since IC is still an unit.

Most importantly, if you're taking Pyrovores that means you're not taking Hive Guard, Zoanthropes, The Doom of Malan'tai and/or Ymgarl Genestealers.

now now, whats with all the Spawn hate. yes they suck, yes their expensive, but i tell you what its really funny to throw a ton on the field and deep strike them later in the game to cause some confusion. No they don't do anything but die but its still funny seeing 9 spawn pop up.

My bad i was playing one of the tables at Gamesday last year where there was deep striking spawn in the backfield just to cause havoc, must have just been for the game mode. I'm not a CSM player.

Some Throne-Forsaken Battlefield on the other side of the Galaxy

Swooping Hawks. They are Assault Marines with lower Strength, lower Toughness, lower Save, weaker guns, 1 higher Initiative, 1 higher Ld, and some grenade-related abilities. At best, that should come out to equal points values, yet Hawks are 3 points more than Assault Marines.
However, for my Guard, it's either Conscripts, which are -1 WS, -1 BS -2 Ld, and only -1 points compared to regular Guardsmen, or Storm Troopers, which are as expensive as Tactical Marines, despite being inferior in almost every way.

The hay wire grenades did get buffed quite a bit IIRC, so did their tank assault.
