What is your favorite space marine chapter? Loyal or Heretic SCUM all comers are welcome, In my own professional/personal opinion i think that it's a close tie between the Grey Knights and the Soul Drinkers! runners up are Space Wolves and the Imperial Fists. Mostly because i think they are awesome! plus who could deny the awesomeness of the Grey Knights! If you have a model of your favorite chapter please Post!

Not saying they are the best, but I like the Dark Angels more than anyone. To make a list.
1. Dark Angels. First Legion, unforgiven, have specialist formations, love plasma weapons.
2. Empy's Kids. Like their pride and their former pursuit of perfection that helped lead to their downfall, although I think it could have been better executed.
3. Minotaurs. Ultramarines hate them, they charge into battle and hack you apart, and smashed the Lamenters in the Babad war. It is almost like they are loyalist World Eaters
4. Raptors. Reasonable marines that are canon. Hell they even use camo to an extent.
5. Lamenters. They are just so depressing you can't help but feel bad for them.

Honourable Mentions
Iron Knights. They have a cool name.
Ultramarines. Who doesn't like guys that always go by the book? Granted I hate specific parts of the Codex Astartes and their hippocracy, but everyone needs some flaws.
Blood Ravens. Racist Gypsy stereotypes in space (Warp Magic, stealing crap, mysterious).

Best is too subjective.

Best at what? Assaulting, shooting, over-all badassery?

Nobody's got anything on the Space Wolves. Lemun Russ was just the ultimate bad ass.

I would say Imperial Fists, but Rogal Dorn's awsomeness kinda got lost when he died to some random CSM punk in a minor boarding action.

Clearly the Templars, the only true answer, all other opinions will be silenced.

Edit: Well a close second goes to my DIY chapter No bias at all.

Yeah he was pretty crazy, but i think Drunk and Erratic more or less describes Leman Russ. But he is still one of my favorites because of his antics! and the emperor punched him in the face!
And Rogal Dorn was tragic in his passing. Although mighty trees are most often felled with tiny axes!

For me its a tie between DA and Ultra.

Black Templars are the only Space Marines to continue the Emperor's crusade to cleanse the galaxy of xenos and return missing humans to the Imperium. They've been doing it for 10,000 years.

I don't know about best but my favourite chapter would probably be the White Consuls. They're zealous followers of the Imperial Cult, they like Drop Pod strikes and they have a gorgeous colour scheme. What's not to like?

In terms of pure badassery and ass kicking I'd have to go with the Black Templars though.

Maybe they need a tea break.

Well someone needs to protect the Imperium, if everyone's off crusading, abbadon could just trot on in and sit down on the throne! Such heresy could not be permitted, so Rowboat Girlyman wrote the Codex Astartes and split all the Legions into chapters and now they're spread too thin because he put a cap on how many space marines could be in a chapter... Blasphemy!!!! Only reason i got Ultra-hate. As for black templars, they are pretty grim-dark. I like them as well!

Imperial Fists. Stoic, loyal, based in the heart of the Imperium. Plus they look good in yellow and they spawned great successor Chapters.

This man speaks of wisdom, fury and purity.

I love them the most because they dont care how many of them or who amongst them dies. One crusader could be left from 100 with one dead champion beside him and a clear escape behind him and he would still charge blindly into the frontlines against the toughest enemy there.

They shall deliver the Emperors true message and make mankind unstoppable!

Raven Guard: They're all about covert ops and tactics. If i collected a fluffy marine army it would be Raven Guard.

Non canon would goto Reasonable Marines: Seeking to always operate at utmost efficiency, minimizing casualties and avoid pyrrhic victories.

I'm sorry I lied to all of you guys. The most awesome marines would be Classy Marines, see below.

As are all things in 40k! Except that everyone knows that the Emperor thrashes chaos every day and all day.

I like the Iron Snakes they seem to have lots of character and they use snake venom to spit in the enemy's face.

This is the Black Templars without a doubt. There are more of them then any other Loyalist chapter and they do not put up with the Adminstratum's crap and the High Lords and all the other powers that be, are too terrified to call them on it.

They do their own thing which is basically destroying xenos and traitor scum and they keep coming at their foes no matter what until one side or the other is destroyed.

Plus the whole zealous, questing knight imagery is just too cool.

White Scars. We will hit you before you now it.
Our captain once took on a baneblade by himself with a combat knife and seeks out the most powerful enemies to kill.

Not necessarily true that there are more of them than any other chapter seeing as the SW have 12 Great companies with far more than the allotted 100 marines per company. And probably not a good idea too piss off the High Lords of Terra or Administratum if you don't want to be declared excommunicate Traitoris.

Most awesome? Would be a tie between the Minotaurs and Black Templar.

As a runner-up though, I'd like to mention the Crimson Fists. They don't get much attention now, but Rynn's World is an example of what happens when you paint a Space Marine chapter into a corner.

And watching Kantor beat the snot out of a Warboss in CC was one of the greatest bits of a book I've ever read.

Astral Claws, pre-Red Corsairs, had a pretty damn sweet paint job, which instantly gives them a plus in my book. Bonus points for lions/tigers - lions and tigers rock!

Also, Iron Warriors, Minotaurs and pre-heresy World Eaters all deserve mentions. Because, y'know, excessive brutality and massive overkill are always a winner

I am biased, but yea, Ultramarines here, we wrote the book on what it is to be a SM.
