Wondering Why the Emperor Left

United Kingdom

I am thinking about starting Chaos Daemons to add to my CSM force, however I can't decide which units are the best in game.

I am not limiting myself to one god, I just want an effective Daemon army of about 1000 points.

Also, is the Battleforce worth it?

Thanks for your help!

A friend of mine used to have Daemons, he used an mainly Tzeentch army, and I must say the Pink Horrors were extremely effective!

He also used Fateweaver, which again was good, but once he was tied up in combat, he didn't do very much!

Don't know if that can be any help!

I always try to keep this up to date with what projects I'm working on... but they just keep piling up

Hey man, always good to see more Daemon players. For troops, I would go for either units of 5 pink horrors w/ bolt, as they can put down a decent amount of fire, have a good invul and in a pinch can use bolt to bust light vehicles. Plaguebearers are also popular for their relatively cheap cost and durability with T5, and a 5++ with 5+ FnP. I usually field 2 units of each, 5 man, with one of the horror squads having the changeling as well.

For HQ, at 1000 points Fateweaver is a bit much as he would be almost 40% of your points, so if he dies or doesn't come in till turn 4 you're pretty screwed. I would go with either a herald of tzeentch on a disc in a squad of flamers, or a herald of khorne/skulltaker on a jugger with a squad of crushers.

Hope this helps! Good luck with the daemons, they're good fun once you learn the ins and outs of playing with them.

Your HQ at 1000 points should just be a herald or a cheap MC.

I'll echo what others have said, at 1,000 points you'll be wanting heralds. Browse through your codex to see their options, you'll find one that fits in with how you want to play.

Some massive, super-killing, huge greater daemon thing!
(Sorry, i don't play daemons but the thread just looked cool)

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive.

I have found the lord of change with that flamer type upgrade (don't have the codex on me right now) effective, especially against vehicles. Fly up, glance on shooting then move in and smash it, works on troops as well.

The bread and butter troops wise for me is bloodletters. Even at AP3 they are nasty.

Oh and yeah get that battleforce if the funds allow, everything it provides has a use.

I suppose it depends on what you want the daemons to do.

If your teaming the daemons with chaos marines I would probably skip plaguebearers, while they are good at not dieing on objectives they cant shoot so they do nothing until assaulted. Plaguemarines or such would be better for objective sitting.
Horrors are pretty good at tarpitting things if you have a decent sized squad (8+) and can put out a fair few shots. Always take the changeling.
For CC I would probably pick bloodletters over daemonettes, they have higher WS, T, S and ap3 weapons are still plenty useful.

For a HQ a herald is the best choice for lower pts as others have said. A Tzeentch herald helps to boost the firepower of your horrors. Id recommend taking bolt, we are legion and master of sorcery.

Flamers and screamers are both really good now with the recent update. Flamers are probably the scariest thing in the daemon book Id say.

My knowledge of Chaos Deamons is just from playing against them and reading the codex but this is what i have learned so far. Pink horrors are pretty awesome with their 4++ saves and 3 S4 AP4 shooting attacks. Especially if you throw Fateweaver next to them. I hate Fateweaver with a passion. He lets everyone within 6" reroll failed armor, invul, and cover saves including his 3++ save and he is a FMC to boot. You could stick Fateweaver in a 500pt list and it would be tough to take on even at 333pts for him.

I hate you Fateweaver!

Bah Fateweavers overrated.
You limit your armies mobility by using him, sure you get rerollable saves but you have to bunch all your units up or not use the full potential of Fateweaver, which at 333pts is what you should probably be trying to do.
