Yay!

I intend to become good at this so I need to push myself.

That's the way to do it. Keep at it.

That's the only reason my painting looks as good as it does. My earlier stuff is being stripped to rid me of the shame, and I'm no master painter, but I'm better than I was, and confident enough now to tackle the Imperial Fists.

I'm hooked, I don't know what it is yet but you've won my intrigue. I'd like to get my sculpting up to scratch too, so far the most important part for me was collecting extensive references, I don't trust myself to freestyle it yet.

I have a picture in my head of what I want this to look like - I'm not sure where it comes from - probably fantasy art rather than historical images - Although perhaps the scale armour does look a little like something from the ancient Hittites or Assyrians.

I hate that, when you have a really strong image in your head but you can't figure out where you conjured it from. Occasionally I stumble upon the source while I'm working but it's always in the last place I would have guessed and too late to help as a reference.

So I'm guessing we're getting a human warrior type lad?

I do lots of research for all my modelling and I'm always saving pictures that crop up on people's blogs for future reference.

Trouble is, I now have so much, it's hard work just sorting it all out into folders so I have a chance of actually finding something when I come to look for it...

and the other day, looking for inspiration for the Auspex, typing things into google and looking over the pictures... and I get a load of my own pictures from my blog...

Howdy y'all.

Went shopping with my dad today - I have the distinct feeling he's going to get me the lidl parkside airbrush for my birthday. If he was better at internet shopping I would direct him to a better one but I don't think he wanted to spend more than that anyway. A fairly simplistic piece of kit but it will allow me to finally paint up my wraithlords and bikes, maybe redo the rhino etc.

Anyway the important thing is that it has a 3 year guarantee so with any luck it will break after I have had a good practice with it and I can put the money towards the better one - always keep the receipt!

Sounds brilliant, weets! We seem to be on the same wavelength so often, I've just been looking into selling an old army to fund an airbrush.

I've got a feeling you'll take to airbrushing like a duck to water but I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress with it.

I used to use a larger version (paint spray gun)all the time to evenly apply glaze to my pottery. Used to get some great colour transitions. Can't be that much different. We will see.

Technically scarper that is scale armour not chainmail. Its important to know the difference or you may lose geek points! Thanks though. Its tuning out better than expected.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Actually, are you sure that's not more like splint mail? lol

No splint mail is made of long 'splints' of metal rather than shorter scales. Perhaps you are thinking of lamellar armour? Specifically scale armour is where the scales overlap in layers and are attatched to a fabric under garment at the top of each scale. In lamellar armour the scales are sewn to each other at all 4 corners. Of course some armours are combinations of different types and I have heard scale armour referred to as 'fish-mail'

Trust me I spent hours reading wiki articles on all the different types of armour and weapons.

I ain't dead.

I'm trapped in giant dome surrounded by disembodied brains.

I have also been testing the airbrush - nothing worth showing yet, although I can report that it does a smooth base coat. I think I will get a better quality double action brush soon.

Yeah, once you go to Gravity Feed/double action, you won't go back More suited to our hobbyist needs, but at least you have a compressor and hose now.

My first commission pieces have arrived! I've been trimming and filing and finally they are ready for assembly - I had forgotten how much flash you get with brand new miniatures.

Very cool models, very gothic. I'm going to enjoy painting these. Bit of assembly to go yet.

Interesting graphic effect there weets! Looking good. Model clean-up is always one of my least-favorite things to do.

Its so important to getting a professional look.though. Gotta do the ground work.

Everyone should take note - no more cleaning up mold lines, just pay me to do it!

Assembly is coming along. Techmarines need a lot of assembly! 4 mechanical arms!! I am doing them two at a time to be on the safe side. Mostly the sockets they come with are enough (plus a little GreenStuff) but I will have to do a bit of pinning here and there.

Unfortunately I won't get any painting done tomorrow. Everyone has to stay in work until we have counted all the stock and it will probably take 12-15 hours(its a big shop). I'm worried that I will find mice. Retail sucks.

But then I have a day off. Planning to making the servitors quite rusty and dirty. Pale unhealthy skin with red raw bits where the tubes go in. I've seen other people do servitors like that before quite well. Very grimdark and gothic.

The techmarines are huge. So many arms. I will do the servitors first to formulate my ideas before I decide how to do them.

Ah well, keep in mind that it's recreation you get paid for. Not too bad when you put the cleaning, building and painting in that context!

Miss dee - 360. I like the controllers better.

I'd love to paint a new commissar Dysartes. PM me if you would Like to discuss it. Its good painting all these modern miniatures, they are so consistently well sculpted on the whole.

Nearly finished the first servitor.

No, just googled it and it looks cool.

We are retro gaming at the mo. We have a pile of playstations from car-boot sales. I'm beating my boyfriend up in street fighter II turbo, he is gak at it. Got a whole pile of old games to check and all the leads, cards, controllers and consoles need testing so we are going to be busy. Later on we will make Lara Croft drown...

He is better at gran turismo. Its three races to him and 3 to me.

Can you play time crisis without a light gun? Turns out you can, but it sucks.

My first commission piece and the prototype for the others. I'm very pleased with his crazy eye.

This is supposed to be a lower standard paintjob but I couldn't help doing all the metal nmm cos that's how I roll these days.
