Hi Guys, I'm thinking about buying the Army Painter Matt Black Primer Spray and Possibly A green to basecoat my Orks as well, the prices for the GW Spray and Spraygun are just a joke, as well as the spraygun having reviews of being useless! I was just wondering what you guys have found after using the Army Painter sprays, are they a lot better? and do you think I should get them or are there other alternatives?

Cheers

I used the golbin and army green, the metal and bone ones, as well as the black and white basic ones.

All work wonders.

I've used both their white and black spray paints and i cannot recomend them enough. Well worth the the price.

The only problem i've ever come across is the caps can be a bugger to get off.

I have used it and it is pretty good. The only thing I don't like about it is the spray technique you need to use with it. You pretty much are fogging the mini instead of spraying it. It takes some getting used to especially if you spend allot of time in a paint booth. To me if feels like doing all the things you would never do with other paints. Also don't try and touch up spots with single blast of spray but fog the whole model from another angle. Last thing clear the nozzles when you are done spraying. Nothing worse than a clogged 3/4 full paint can that you can no longer use.

I use their DA green equivalent for my vehicles and it works like a charm. Definitely worth it.

They are great, saves a lot of time. I've had a red spray easily cover a black primer undercoat.

Diehard was right about not trying to touch up a single spot with a blast. If you only focus on one area, the paint can get thick really quick and you lose detail.

I've had Dragon Red go over black primer, plain plastic, plain resin and metal without any issues. It covers nearly as well as GW's primers.

Make sure it is not a humid day, spray closer than you normally would, and keep the can moving and you should be good.

I use the Daemonic Yellow and Pure Red for my Badmoons and Evil Sunz and they are an absolute life saver.
I highly recommend them.
Also, they now have matching dropper bottles for a ton of their spray primers.
Great customer service too.

One more for the "very good" category. They're so useful that I've got a shelf in my basement with at least seven different colours now.

I really haven't noticed too much of a difference between them and much cheaper sprays, 90% of a quality spray job is the person doing it.

That said, yeas, they cover a bit faster, but for my money, I'll stick with cheaper sprays and my airbrush.

its great spray. We used the dark green spray on my wife's 'Nids and it required no under coat. it is quite expensive though. (at least it is here)

for my Grey Knights, I use their silver primer. its fantastic. much faster for me to paint them in the codex form. (I gave up on custom, I just want them painted)

My Knights (using the silver paint base spray) I have only added a wash over the primer, and no under coats. all the silver you see is Army Painter silver primer.
Spoiler:

My wife's 'Nid with dark green base Army Painter spray, mild highlights over the green, but again, no under coat for the dark green just the spray, wash and highlight. 3 steps.
Spoiler:

I would say the spray is smooth and consistent. It is a high quality product.

Cheers for all your comments guys, I'm guessing I'll need both Black Primer and Greenskin so that I can use the black on the Vehicles and the Green on the infantry, I don't need to use the Black AND the Green on my orks do I?

Cheers

You can probably just go with green on your troops.

Can always do up a test one and see how it looks.

you only need the green on the orks.

Its a great product...do a search, there are TONS of threads on using this primer ...in fact, there is one just above this one talking about its coverage...

Does anyone have any experience using the army painter paints with the salt and hairspray weathering method? I wasn't sure if they were "acrylic".... The tuturial I have been watching says to use acrylic... I have had awesome experiences with the Army Painter line of paints but have yet to use them with this method....

i have used over 7 colors and love them all i have never had any prolbs and the colors are fantastic and ideal for those who want a base coat/ primer in one incase you dont have access to a air brush

I've only used wolf grey but its a nice colour and they do a dropper bottle paint to match the colours, bonus. I did find it a little thick to spray on sometimes though.

Dont discount car sprays too, a little cheaper, i use a lot of halfords primers, i find them better value and really good quality too. Just have a look as your in the uk anyway.

I wouldn't bother with the black or white army painters.
You can get a ton of much cheaper primers in those two colors.
I think this biggest deal with Army painter is that you can find primer colors that you wont find anywhere else.
Black, white, gray, and even rust brown are common primer colors and you don't need to pay 15 bucks for em.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm looking at buying Greenskin first as it'll be a good primer for all my Orks, I guess it would be a waste spending £10 on a black primer just for the Battlewagons/Dakkajets i'll be getting. I might get it for my upcoming chaos project after I've finished with the Orks but I will look at the alternatives, specifically those who mentioned Halfords, I guess the Grey Primer will do the trick!

Cheers
