Does anyone run a unit of nobz for an elite unit? And if so, how do you kit them out, and in what numbers?
As I understand it, lootas are used more often currently.

5 units of 3 nobz in mega armor, all mounted in trukks.
Keep 'em cheap as possible and go with threat saturation.
Even if only 1 or 2 units make it into combat, 12 S9 AP2 attacks per unit puts a huge thump in the enemy.

I always run a unit of Nobz in my army. It's really the only way to play them in this edition and they are probably the MVP of every game.
I've run both foot (with a BW) and biker nobz, the later has really started to shine in this edition. 2W T5, 4+ cover, 4+ armor FNP 5++ invul, they are one of the most durable units in the game, and also one of the hardest hitting.
I usually run the following set up regardless of if they're on foot or on bikes:
1x Painboy
1x Power Klaw, Waaagh Banner
1x Power Klaw
1x Big Choppa
1x Big Choppa
1x Slugga Choppa
All have Eavy Armor and Cybork (unless they're bikers since the 4+ save is included with the purchase of the bike)
The caveat to this is that I always run a Warboss to make them troops, and the Warboss always runs with the Nobz to make about the dead killiest deathstar around.
I also have enjoyed running the MANZ missile, it's a 1 trick pony, not as durable or competitive but it's really fun and a great tool for board control.

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

I have 2 things to say in regards to the above quote:
1. Stop using caps. Seriously, all of your posts have been in caps. Read the forum's rules.
2. 40k tabletop is not the same as playing Dawn of War. Do not get maximum Power Klaws, as you WILL fail. Go for 3 at max.

Also Kombi-rokkits suck.
They are just wasted points most times, as they are 1-shot weapons, running on BS 2. The suad might get 3 hits from a 10-squad, but mine never actually seem to..
Kombi Skorchas can be a nasty surprise tho

That sounds...horrible...im not the best orky player but every time i run MANz their wheels go boom either just before or as they reach their target, so they have to footslog it to the next and they are stupid easy to kite around. Also, thats (using trukks with RPJ, RAM, and Planks) 510pts right there and takes up your elite slots. Elite slots that will deal with what the meganobz cannot, fliers or unchargable targets (2+ means nothing when you get 50+ dice thrown at you...ask my Space Wolves friend and how well his termies lasted to my green gun line).
Much easier and safer to just take 1 group of 4-5 with Kombi Scorchas and sneak them during the chaos of turn 2-3. I either keep them in reserves if im not urnning a warboss, or i camp them under a ruin somewhere out of sight first turn to avoid wasting the trukk. That way, in turn 2-3, he either deals with the rest of my army or this missile of S9 attacks flying at his face.
migs6357 wrote:As MANY PKs As YOU CAN AFFORD,OTHERWISE SLUGGAS AND BIG CHOPPAS. PUT IN A PAINBOY AND A FEW COMBI ROCKETS AND YOUR SET! I WOULD MAX OUT THE SQUAD LIMIT.
Ugh, caps....
Anyway, you know how EXPENSIVE it is to fully kit out a group of 10 nobz with PKs? You literally dont need more than 2-3 since they cant be challenged out, and you will save ~175pts in doing so. I used to run 5 PK bikers with a painboy, i either stopped and do gun lines now or i run 2-3 instead because i never need more than 1 most of the time.

Yea, youll learn that overkill is a serious waste of points. 50pts of PK will kill most things just as dead as 200pts of PK Also, it wouldnt be 510ps. That unit would only be 155pts? 160 with planks, which if your running MANz in trukks youd be silly not to take planks.

This is true.
Also, tactically you usually don't want to destroy what you are fighting in the turn you charge, you want to tie or only win by a slim margin so that the enemy sticks in combat with your Nobz, keeping them safe from your opponent's next shooting phase.
You want to decimate the enemy unit in this turn to take advantage of the bonus consolidate move to plan your next charge.

Right now I'm running them as bodyguards for my warboss with TL Shoota, Big Choppa, 'Eavy Armour, and a WAAAGH Banner (kustom made, no less! See my gallery! ) I shove em into a loota wagon and its off to a killing we shall go! If I can get them into CC, they wreak all kinds of havoc.

@Vineheart101
You'd actually be surprised how deadly that MANz list is, I run a very similar one and it's quite stompy, especially considering that a one MAN is fewer points than a Nob with PK. Also your point about them having to footslog is rarely an issue when the Trukks are moving 24" in a turn and you've got 5, plus Trukk Boyz as well.
I generally agree that a melee unit shouldn't be killing its target in the first turn with the exception of any space marine units who have ATSKNF, it sucks to have a marine squad fall back and still have things like a plasma gun pistol remaining to shoot down your poor Nobz/MANz. This is why I personally prefer mega Nobz, they're ded'ard against bolters and such, and they'll pretty much slaughter pesky MEQ units so I don't need to worry about them auto regrouping

AND to further add. When running a single MANz missile (usually found in a non trukk list) youre holding that trukk back either in reserves or behind some LOS blocking terrain and waiting till turn 3ish. Then the trukk zips in as fast as it can. The chances of it making it to its intended target is pretty damn good. Considering everything is either in combat or dead

Ahhh a lil’ bit of tactics. I could see some late coming MANz tearing up people in the later part of the game when they are weak.

I have actually used MANZ just like this since the end of 3rd ed when they were chosen as a bodyguard for the Warboss and cost around 60pts each but could take cyborks. For awhile in 4th I ran 9 and the warboss in a trukk until I suffered a vehicle Annilated result from an indirect firing Defilier one day I then changed things around a bit. Things have certianly changed since then and I'm actually still running with the same models.
The trick with MANZ was always to pick the right target to assault, a lot like Incubi in the DE dex. For example they will smash through a tac squad or any kind of dedicated shooting unit but against a TH/SS termie unit they will be minced to pieces. The changes to 6th & AP melee weapons only made more squads less scary to attack. I always loved them because there the cheepest way to get more PK's into the list.

Well, they can still kill off a TH/SS terminator unit, but the problem is they kill each other. And sure, the terminators are gone, but so is your MANz unit.....so I wouldnt normally suggest going that route.

The only way i'll throw my MANz at termies is if i HAVE to deal with them NOW or i just have nothing else to target that im going to get to before the game is over. Im not going to footslog it 30 inches or so to get at a random shooty group on turn 3 when i got a group of termies killing my own shooty groups right next to me.
Probably lose since they have invuls and we dont (without maddok anyway) but i'll sure as hell deal some damage so i can finish them off.

It's a shame that the days of the Green Tide are probably over. With the old rules you could easily footslog it across the board and then have the horde chew up anything in its path with CC. With overwatch, I've watched in horror as a squad of 5 termies laid waste to a 20+ strong mob of boyz.
So now for us Ork players it looks like we have to go more shooty in order to just keep up.

How did 5 termies lay waist to 20 boys they have only 10 shots with storm bolters 11 with a Heavy Flamer or 12 with an AC. Then the Survivors would either go first or at the same time with the exceptions of the Sgt. who would get his 2 power attacks first.

Maybe he meant shooting and assault? Because typically 20 boyz will beat out 5 terminators rather easily. Infact, boyz are the best answer we have to taking out terminators.

I was meaning in the Assault. If 20x Boys Assault 5x Termies the boys will via atrition even if the termies Overwatch there going to take a ton of hits from shooting first then cop a ton more in combat.
The only thing I know of that can easily chew up a mob of 20 boyz and come out unscathed is a Blood Angels Death Company Dread with Blood Talons. They are evil in the most pure form
