Sadly no Deadzone pt 2 delivery for me today, but I'm guessing it won't be long now :-)

Shipping update…

Everyone is saying how fast we are at shipping when actually we are a little behind our own schedule. We expected to have the whole thing shipped by close of play on Friday evening, but we are likely not to finish until Wednesday night next week, then spend Thursday sorting any orders with shipping issues, like the handful of backers who never got round to giving us their addresses for one reason or another. (See me after school! - Wayne)

UK is still being processed so don't worry if you have not had an email from Wayland Games yet. We are processing some of the EU too. I can also confirm that we have 1 pallet of USA single Strongholds made up and ready to process… it should be 5-10 days from the time the USA pallet leaves to the time you get your goodies (just one of many pallets to go to the US)

Wayland have a very clever way of processing their orders and we are so glad we chose them for our fulfilment. Not only are they experts, but being part of the wargaming scene they really understand our backers and our products and you can see the respect that they have in the way they handle each and every sheet. They are not some mindless packers in a factory that packs board games one day then dustpans and brushes the next. Each packer is a gamer )

Also Wayland are careful and so we packed the easier orders first and slowly built up the packer's knowledge of the terrain sheets. We were on hand to answer any questions and by the end of day one the guys knew the product well. We also started with the UK for a very good reason - if we made a mistake it would be easier to track the parcels and recall them. Glad we did this as we made 5 wrong address errors, took us 6 hours over two days to sort these (we know what went wrong and fixed it so it can't happen again) and we contacted all 5 backers to sort the issue, pretty smart process from Wayland and we are learning together how to fulfil this kind of product its all very clever and scary at the same time. I kept randomly checking orders before they were sent and after finding no mistakes in the first day, I finally started to relax from my 'heart attack' stress level and am currently at a more comfortable 'headache and shacking hands level' lol. (Be nice, chaps, if Colin croaks i'm stuffed!- Wayne)

With a KS of this size there will always be mistakes made and every distributor has an error rate and tolerances, Wayland is no exception. So if you have a miss pack then simply let us know using our email address info@battlesystems.co.uk and we will pass this on and make the correction, so far (famous last words) we have not had anyone receive a wrong sheet, but we will and this is normal and part of the process.

First feedback & Assembly…Important video reminder )

So some of you have already been assembling the terrain and generally its all going good. We have had some feedback regarding some of the parts, like the door frames (as we tooled these in a very specific way) and so it is most important that you follow the assembly videos before you start setting up. This will only be needed once and it will save you any confusion or mistakes.

Tutorial videos here - http://www.battlesystems.co.uk/tutorials.html

Just like your miniature figures, if you don't clean the mould lines off or adjust the arm sockets they will not fit correctly. We take this for granted with miniature figures, but as this product has never been done before there are no habits formed yet. Go to our tutorials page on our website and watch the 'Essential Quick Start Guide' first (it's only a 5 minute video), then there is one video for each different sheet in the set. The more time you take planning the better the results and once done it is ready to play and of course… no painting required D (I was too lazy to trim the door frames and nearly destroyed my first attempt. Quick trim later and bingo! - Wayne.)

This is a very exciting time for all of us and we are so glad that we are seeing your sets made up. What really helps us is photos, so as soon as you have set up your terrain, please take some photos and post them to us at info@battlesystems.co.uk we will then share them (unless you ask us not to) as this gives everyone ideas of what they can do.

So, to anyone with a better memory than mine: what are the recommended pens for coloring the edges? I know it was brought up somewhere in this thread, but for the life of me I can't find that particular post.

I think it was Pantone markers, but I can't remember the colours - I was looking for that info too and failed to find it.

Yep Colin used Pantone Markers but they are no longer available having been replaced by Letraset Promarkers which use a different colour reference to Pantone

These are the ones Colin used but these codes are no longer available

Struts, Buttresses, conduits, Turbines, brown crates = 139-T or 465-T or 4655-T (any of these give a good effect)

Locker & Green crates = 5767-T although 617-T is also quite good

Black on hazard markings (airlock and Docking Ramp) = Progress Black - T

Faber-Castell:

Artist PITT Pens = Yellow 107

There's some people trying to work on colour matches I'll post them if they can be matched but you might want to find a shop that sells Letraset Promarkers and just bring a sheet or two in to try and colour match them in a store.

Thanks for that info Dave. Checked ebay, looks like some reasonable options before I check some local stores.

13 colour set for GBP 14.39 (+4 int'l shipping) for example. Would have to confirm the colours as being suitable though.

When superglueing the edges for durability, should they be coloured before, after, or it doesn't matter?

Definitely colour the edges before supergluing any edges that need it or the marker won't colour the card!

You will only need 4 or 5 markers I'd wait until it's worked out which are correct and then just order the right ones.

Just on the supergluing if anyone is reading that and wondering , you don't need to glue anything but if you want the thinner more delicate parts to last a long time it's a good idea to brush some superglue over the edge to strenghten it.

You could get away with only doing some parts such as the clip contact points and the thinner sections, but my plan was to do basically all the edges. It should keep them all from fraying at all with no downside really? (other than the cost of the superglue and the time taken)

Yeah probably best bet to wait to see which markers are needed.

Also for a rough update, I can confirm that…
.
All of UK sent
Half of US now packed.
Less than 600 orders in total left to pack.
That should be down to about 350 by weekend.
.
There are specific orders held back from all of the above though, due to specific combos of add-on etc, so don't worry if you have not had your parcel yet. Wayland will continue to pack the remaining orders on Monday morning and assuming they do only have 350 to go, we are hoping these will be done by close of play Tuesday.
.
We are getting close )

Cool. They may as well send mine out last, I'd rather it come in after GenCon instead of during while I'm out. Looking forward to seeing what people build. Maybe we need a thread somewhere?

Update #69

How to build your set & Shipping update

Parcels, parcels, parcels everywhere...

We are still on target for finishing all of the deliveries for Wednesday so all good. Since the last update we have been getting lots of feedback and it's 99.5% positive, we could not be happier. Everyone is using the videos for their first set ups (this is important) and we are getting lots of photos linked in the comments as you guys start to experiment with the sets. We will share these photos soon, but you will find loads of posted links in the main KS comments pages.

Boxes and boxes and boxes.

Final Add-ons waiting to be packed Final Add-ons waiting to be packed

Wayland Games have been great and are still working hard. Once they have finished the last of the parcels, they will focus on the few backers where the orders were a little more complicated to pick and also the orders where the courier's computers did not like the address provided. Remember that depending on where you are it could take from 5-10 days to reach you from the moment the parcel is dispatched from Wayland Games. So if you are still waiting, hold tight, we will get you your terrain soon. (We still have 11 people yet to give us their shipping address, a significant drop from the 'elusive 31' email us for your goodies! - Wayne)

Feedback…

Based on the feedback so far we have already made some adjustments and notes for our manufacturers to improve our next products. We have discovered (thanks to your feedback and some further testing while the manufacturers were producing the final terrain) that we can increase the slots on some of the tools without compromising the effectiveness of the terrain. So slots that only ever take the plastic clips could be increased a little and this would save a little over 50% of adjustments needed. Of course once the adjustments are made its done and no further work is needed, just like cleaning the mould lines from your models. If we can make the terrain even easier to build straight from the box then we will and it's one of our main focuses of the next sets we produce.

You can use parts of some of the add-ons to add variety to your builds.

We thank you all for your community of constructive feedback and are happy to see that you are all helping each other with set building ideas and watching this happen is like heaven.

How to build your set from scratch…

Many of you have been asking each other about how to build the multi level aspect of the sets. After so many months (or is it years now) of developing the terrain we probably take this for granted, so I have put a much requested video together that explains just how I approach this.

The video shows me building a set from scratch with no plan and how to approach this, what goes through my mind and general tips and tricks. - Also if you want a sneak peek of the Fantasy KS then this is the video for you as we use the 'Dungeon' pledge to demonstrate the build. This is the Stronghold equivalent for the fantasy range and uses the same ratios of Walls, Ramps, Gantries, Railing etc etc. Only the furniture is different.

(For those who were asking, we're still on for the 20th but don't cancel any appointments - Wayne)

That's about it for now, we are still super busy with fulfilment administration and KS pre-prep for the Fantasy Dungeon.

Over and Out for now

Colin & Wayne

PS. for those that have your terrain already…. HAPPY GAMING!

What is it with you guys and vegimite? Or is it mate? Is it the AU equivalent of spam or something entirely different?

Looking forward to building a cramped facility and having my dudes try to survive it. I think the deadzone contagion zombie rules maybe with small tweaks will lead to crazy and intense survival runs.

And for some odd reason, napalm.

It was one of the DHL couriers that delivered it, not Aussie Post. So there's every chance yours will rock up today as well.
It's strangely nice getting a package on a Sunday.
