Does anyone know where the phrase 'HHHobby' started? I get that it's a pot shot at 'the GW hobby', but was it just Matt Ward trying to type with an H-key which was stuck due to his overflowing excitement about his newest codex? A misdirected ^H^H^H joke? Am I simply starting to lose my eyesight, and see H's in triplicate?
It started with Dakka's own Kilkrazy as a pastiche on the "GW Hobby" mantra that they espouse in store or on company information. The idea of a Hhhobby within a hobby if you will at the exclusion of acknowledging all other aspects of wargaming.
I think it's about 2-3 years old at this point.

How do you promote your Hobby? - Legoburner "I run some crappy wargaming website "
Kilkrazy wrote: Yes, it was my idea, intended to poke fun at GW's claims to be bigger and better than the whole of tabletop wargaming.
Which is hilarious. GW insists they are a hobby unto themselves, as if tabletop miniatures games don't exist anywhere else.
Just ask any GW employee who their competition is, the answer is always the same: no one.
They think that because no one sells Citadel™ models that they have no competition. They view Warhammer games as existing in a vacuum. They have no concept of people using OTHER models in those games, let alone the concept that other game systems compete with their own.
GW, in at least this respect, is much deserving of the mockery they get.

I always assumed it was a parody of the wrestler HHH, and his tagline"I am the game." Since GW likes to claim they are the hobby.

I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

I have never heard of the wrestler HHH or seen the TV show Fist of Fun.
I still think it's that. Even though you may not have heard of it; the similarities in pronunciation are right there. Before I even came on Dakka I saw people quoting the self proclaimed "King of HHHobbies" complete with the triple H.
Either way, it's a natural way of saying it as it is how a nasal, obnoxious holier-than-thou hobbiest would pronounce it, putting extra emphasis on the H. Just like Simon Quinlank.

I think he means Triple H. Rather than HHH.
