Even though GW has turned some things around, I still would prefer to see more alternate stuff like TNT. That's why I've been working on my Beyond the Gates of Antares stuff.

Yeah the starter looks good. I'm sure the chaos would be fun to paint whether I got more or not. I could wait to see if there's a good start collecting box but I doubt the value would be there.
Theo, yeah I'm still in a love/hate with gw though I have wanted to run some kind of Inquisition force for ages.

I like how generic the black stars are. May use one for my Preservers TNT faction. Well, potentially 2. But I'd have to find a grenade launcher.
Drew up a list of potential minis to paint from the dnd 5e starter set but I dunno if I'll focus on it or not.
Dark Imperium is at Miniature Market. A paltry discount to $136 but i guess anything beats GW direct. On the fence. If it were a hundred I'd be all upons. I mean... it's still solid. Upwards of 40-50 GW dudes for 136 plus the book that's probably msrp 60 etc. Still i dunno. Not sure I need the chaos but I know I won't eBay the marine half for $80 that's absurd. And a start collecting hrmm. That has merit, maybe 10 marines and a boss? Well they probably wouldn't be snap fit.
I'm not in a hurry, but I'd like to secure with without worry of loss. Free shipping at that price point. On the fence. What are you guys doing? I kind of *need* the bigass marines. The chaos stuff is a touch cartoony, everyone is big grins but not scary grins like the great unclean one. And nurglings hanging off like they're snots on orc vehicles. Ehh..
What say ye folk?

I'm skipping it. Big marines for big money sake.
Besides I'm having fun with Gates of Antares. I have all my marines if I decide to try Bolter Action, and the system is cleaner and faster.

GoA does seem interesting, if someone local was playing it maybe I could manufacture interest in a faction.
I *need* giant Marines though. Need. . I could wait for the kits to release but the starter set prices are generally never beaten. Perhaps if I could hawk the chaos half on eBay for even approaching to what they're listing them at and make decent recovery.
Not like I need more figures at all...but Dem new marines...

Watched the unbox of DI on BoW, looks pretty good. Those jetpack dudes are basically dual wielding mini heavy bolters how cool is that.
The deathguard are pretty sweet and the characters are a mixed bag but cool overall. The poxwalkers look better in 3d, they don't seem as flat as the box photos make them out to be. Some are still quite derpy but overall they're acceptable. I could see making some from extant normal marines in my collection by bashing in some chaos warrior helmets and extending their torsos with belly mouths and stuff. I'm pretty sure the new ones are quite tall.
And there I go looking into working both factions, expanding both...sheesh.
Gonna try to move some things around to see, I'm sure the retail release will never see an equivalently low price to the box set, even if you only count the 24 marines from the $136 that's still 5.60 or so per and I'm sure they'll be more retail.
Considering the box set puts me in a weird place with wanting to paint any more regular marines though... Especially when I consider that some may become deathguard if I *do* but DI...

Thanks . I need to get back to more steadily updating but that'll require steadily doing projects. When the kids get a touch bigger..
Nurgle chaos just seem too fun to convert. I've long had a vague interest in them and getting some in the starter box would be the perfect excuse. I wonder if normal CSM will still be a thing. I like how crazy the deathguard are, trying to decide if they're s specific subfaction or just what we're calling plague marines. I liked the idea of tough PMs holding objectives with close support by regular CSM. The poxwalkers and bloat drone make me thing such traditional support may be less common but it may also be a deathguard specific thing...
My collection of zombies, gribbly monster parts, and so on has only increased over the years.

Was just at Miniaturemarket and they had a set of the new figs on display. They are great looking models, but I just can't get into them as they are just different scaled than the old models. Looks like a great jumping on point, but I'm too old school. IF I were to get back into GW it would be with the nurgle ones though, the blight drone was magnificent.

They didn't have old marines next to the models, just a full set from the starter box out on a gw provided cardboard table. The burgle guys looked the same size wise as the primaries marines, but I was more looking at details than the figs side by side. I know the new marines are supposed to be larger, and they look more proportional, just I have soooooo many old marines that to even start a new faction would be rediculous.
Edit: thinking about it, maybe this is why the khorne also guys have gotten so much bigger also. They were preparing for the new scale of 40k and the fantasy khorne guys will probably fit in fine with new berserkers if they come out.

Wow they are big, that's not true scale like people are saying, that's giant! That's ogryn in a suit, that is. Now funny enough I can understand the chaos dudes being silly big, cus like they be tainted, but that is hellish scale creep. Got to admit they do look nice though, I will one day get a set just for laughs I think.

What you gotta remember is the marine in the middle is the same height as a guardsman. That's not right and never has been. The new marines are the proper height they should always have been. And they technically are new, it isn't creep, they're even more enhanced marines in bigger beefier armor.
They'll still make classic marines look like turds imo, but I'm ok with it to get properly large marines.
You are right though, hey are better proportioned but still certainly not what I would consider truescale. I'm ok with it, nothing else in 40k is either.

Don't get me wrong here, I know the old boy was a bit puny, and should always have been beefy, and to be honest the scale thing has never really bothered me that much, catachan biceps the size of soccer balls and hands off the incredible hulk, but to be honest if painted well and on mass they look good, the same as mass SM, a formation, currently looks bloody awesome. This big fellas are going to make it super impressive. I like having a bit of variety, and to me, my orks should be all over the place on size, right up to a 10' Warboss, who is then strapped into a armoured robotic suit, should be vast and scary as hell, the same as a carnifax. The only funny I have is thinking about 10 of these big guys getting into a rhino! It is about time they gave them a proper scale transport, my rhinos are only used as scout vehicles as far as I am concerned.
Jeez thats a lot to say, sorry, shutting up now.

I think the black-robed guy looks the business. That's the thing about black - it's easy since it goes with almost anything.
The problem with Marines scale hasn't been so much them being the wrong size, or regular humans having scale creep, but fluff creep. Back in Rogue Trader they were T3, like regular humans. They were elite, but not the man-gods that they're now portrayed as. And they weren't 8 feet tall. It's 30 years of fawning background that's done that while the actual models only got a bit bigger, in line with other ranges. And yes, the plastic Catachans had WAY too many 'roids, but that kit/range is a bit of an abomination, akin to those WHFB 4th(?) edition goblins that were the size of humans, before they got scaled back down with the Skull Pass set.
As for the new marines and DM box, We already have variance of scale with just regular marines if you have the older models through to Centurions and current Terminators. So I'm going all-in. Six boxes. I'll just need to sell off a few rulebooks. Or perhaps build a fort out of them. I'm sure that the Primaris will be readily available on the Bay for a reasonable price as well, and if you're not taken by the DG, there's always the traditional "split a pair of boxes" method if you can find someone somewhat local...

Yeah I don't think the big guys will be getting rhino access. They seem to have a hover-tank land raider looking thing though.. Talk all you like, I'm not here as much as I'd like to be so you guys can fill in the blanks
Thanks Az, I think I like him too.
I didn't realize the RT guys were normal sized, makes sense really. All I know is that I came on the scene early 3rd edition and they were never really tall enough. Ok next to eldar cause aliens... but guardsmen made me sad lol.
So far eBay is trying to sell the model halves (without the book etc) for what looks like $80 each. So they're trying for half the box but giving you 1/3 of the box. Since I can get the whole box from MM for 136 the difference between the eBay "deal" and buying it "retail" is only 56 dollars. Count the book and the deathguard and I may as well just buy my own stinkin set. The deathguard will be the perfect excuse to convert my own dudes, I've kind of always wanted chaos, and nurgle sounds fun to convert. May even be where my old marines end up, plaguified.

That sounds like a plan. What I meant was checking out eBay in a couple of months for a squad or two of Primaris to shore up your numbers. The excitement (and madness) will have toned down, but people will still be parting out the boxes - especially so they can sell that hardcover for a little less than retail and the prices for the models should be a lot saner by then.
As for the split box, I mean finding a friend/local/guy in the store who's happy to swap one set of models for the other. If you're going Nurgley instead then it's all good. That's why I'm getting multiples - I have uses for all the models in there.

I hadn't considered the prices leveling out. Dv seemed like a good deal for s *long* time but the genestealer cultists one always seemed high .

I like minis ........as we all know, but I just don't think GW can rescue the warhammer game system. It needs a complete overhaul and not like aos . I think I've just overcome the sunken cost theory of tossing more money at GW since I've dumped so much already. The fact that most of my GW stuff is boxed up all ramshackley is a good clue. I e just been burnt by them too much. I love the death guard look though.

Title says it:
Bit edgier, bit less poor monks in space burlap, this is the new look for the Angels Ascendant.
Still not sure if I'm gonna continue to paint regular old marines or not. Some may get eaten by chaos! Still vacillating on DI. I mean I want it. But it's not inexpensive. Hrm.
Wanna paint something, but kinda meh on marines until I know more. I know they can work together but eeeehhhh.
Kinda wanna look into SWA, always wanted to try necromunda... but the thing is I really would like an inquisitor team and I'm hearing things to the effect that they're quite one dimensional. So not really representative of that team with a badass inquisitor, desperado, sword person, sniper, etc. Sounds like if you wanna play hardball its a bunch of acolytes with sniper rifles or storm shields lol. Boring. So I dunno. The Tau team is pathfinders with a stealth suit maybe and stuff like that, but I don't have those lol. Space marine scouts seems kinda boring. I could see running the DI death guard and converting some cultists to go with it but eeeeh. I could always just stick to TNT really.
So I dunno. Kinda in hobby limbo, I've got a lot of stuff to paint but I'm not sure what to do. I have a lot of killer Infinity stuff I could be doing, but that's usually more stressful and needs a steadier hand and/or longer sessions.. hrm. Could use a slew of TNT terrain but I haven't gotten around to working on any of it, I mean all I have atm is a bunch of base pieces cut to size. So I dunno.
Kiddo just woke up anyway so I guess I'm good for today anyway lol.

The squad looks great, Grim. I think you should paint another squad of Space Marines. 8th is going to be far, far less of a cluster than 6-7th. On top of that, marines are a relatively easy, low stress type of model that you'll always be able to use, and you'll be building on the Angels that you've just finished.
I've *ahem* seen a leaked copy of the SM Index. Tacticals now come in a base squad of 5, and you can add up to another 5. Or just paint a cool model or two for fun. Veterans now come in a pair(!) and can be bumped up to 5, Champions and Apothecaries are ICs, as are Techs, Chaplains and Librarians - and even the Company standard, who is now called an "Ancient".
