Ronnie let slip in the seminar I was in at today's Open Day that the external license Mantic picked up was for Mars Attacks...

That is TERRIBLE news for my wallet.

If they're true to the source (either the movie or the cards) I can see myself getting a fair amount.

I wonder if they'll do like Flying Frog did with Invasion From Outer Space- have clear domes to attach to the martians. In fact I could see these figures if they look nice ending up on that board too.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Mantic may have finally announced something I'm interesting in.

Albeit, not to play, just to buy a bunch and sit them with my Transformers.

I remember the comic books for that but the movie was pretty damn funny as well...yak yak yak yak!!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Interesting news, and will be keen to find out more details about the new project (any guesses... perhaps something in 10mm or 15mm?)

Think the game should tie into Mantic's sense of humour/tongue-in-cheek attitude quite nicely..

I hope this is super-campy. I'd be pretty interested in getting this. I too loved the film; and moreso, the general weird-science aesthetic.

Dammit, we just spent the last 3 months over on the Mantic forum trying to guess what the IP license was, and didn't even come close!

That movie freaked the hell out of me as a kid.

Thank goodness they chose something I have no interest in! Yay!

Seriously, is Mars Attacks really supposed to be some feather in their cap? The only reason I'm not making Mars Attacks minis is because I passed over the rights to Mars Attacks to buy some of the HeMan figures sitting next to them at the garage sale.

...
I mean, I'm honestly very happy for them.

1910 Martian Tripods is more interesting to me than Mars Attacks... feel a little disappointed, but I wasn't really looking forward to it anyway. Kind of assumed it was a much bigger property.

If you've only seen the film, have a look at the trading cards, they're much, much more interesting.

They're doing a re-release of the trading cards later on this year, so this could possibly be a collectible minis line to accompany it.

..I'm a sucker for collectible minis, and swore "never again" after Mage Knight. If Mantic does it though, and I see the packs in supermarkets I'm not sure if I'll be able to resist. Especially if they come with a card with some wonderful b-movie style art on it.

I used to have them (might still, in my parent's attic). Those and the Dinosaur ones. Shrug, it's a cool license I spose, just not interested in it personally.

It's the 50th anniversary of the card set which I collected as a youngster and could not understand what all the fuss was about. These were the vidoe nasties of their day...What with these and the bllody images of the Civil War Times set - never mind the ;ater battle set for WW2 and the underrated Dinosaur Attack.

Not sure what mantic could do with the licence though, but if they go for that retro 50's sci look it could be interesting.

If Mongoose and Mantic teamed up for some Dredd vs Martians action, would be EPIC.

The only bits I was able to find out was that Ronnie described the feel they are aiming for as "fun and slapstick", while we're looking at around a year until they have the final product ready.
