I've resumed work on the Nurgle Prince, applying new strata of greenstuff, new strains of noxious disease, new layers of pain and despair to the haunted creature:

I don't like the way that leg turned out, and plan on carving out most of the work there to redo the it.

On the other hand, I do like the way the possessed pilot in the cabin is shaping up (poor wretch!)

Here's another angle:

And another:

Another:

And one more:

Now I'll work on getting the legs right (and figuring out what to provide in the way of feet).

Thanks for looking.

I don't know if I already told you tinfoil, but I'm personally not really keen on the "burnt" effect on the armour plates...

But your awesome GS work on the mini, especially that possessed "pilot", are truly amazing...

Good job, as always!

I like this pilot!

I have nothing against the burnt aspect of the plate, but I think it looks a little too chubby on the front of the model (while it's perfect on the sides), it misses rust or something to emphasize the corrupted aspect of this special area
(I mean, more than it already is).

Otherwise, great job. I should try something similar one day.

Pilot looks fantastic, and I like the way the feet are going, looking more like hooves.

Ygg: Thanks. I hear you on the burnt effect. I'm not sure I like it as much as the greenstuffed stuff myself. The thing is, the metal plates and edges of "raw" minis like the sentinel always look so clean and straight -- and I image the process of possession as being wrenching, violent, kind of tectonic -- reality itself warping and scraping against itself.

Hyenajoe: It may be that the photography angles are exaggerating the chubbiness of the front. It looks better IRL.
Rust is a great idea, btw.

tip: yeah, I was thinking of trying to model some form of hooves. Don't know if I can pull that off or not, but I'll give it a shot.

Oh you could try the salt method for the rust. That looks pretty good the times I have seen it (in a nutshell, paint it a rust color, spray with hairspray, sprinkle salt on went hairspray, wait for it to dry, paint the next color you want, after that dries wash salt off under warm water).

That sentinel might just be one of the coolest things I have ever seen on this site. Great work with the greenstuff and pilot.

tinfoil, your demonic GS work is amazing - organic and bio-techish, warped and just plain cool - and your painting well compliments your sculpting and ideas.

Absolutely love the display board, very original idea!

You should think about submitting The Harrowed - btw, an inspiring demonesque name - in your FLGS for Armies on Parade in Sept.

Eagerly awaiting the next update...

I have to say Tinfoil, I first came across you in your thread dealing with your rushed daemonic city conversion (Which turned out more than just a little awesome) and followed it to this thread. I was just so blown away with your skill and creativity that I had to read the whole thing! I tried taking my time with it - like a really good book you never want to end - so that I could enjoy each addition and alteration you made. It was a great read and very inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing work, and I look forward to more in the future.

...now I just have to think of some ways I can start playing around with GS on my orks.

tipios wrote:Pilot looks fantastic, and I like the way the feet are going, looking more like hooves.

as I was looking at him I was thinking the same thing about the hooves. I'm glad to see there are others with the idea too. I think it would go well with the tusk!

In a lot of situations I would agree with you, but in this one, dealing with Nurgle, I think it's completely fine - if not more than fine. I envision the metal also becoming bloated (similar to the body)... with maybe sickly black (or whatever) corrupted goo dripping out of it, hissing as it dribbled onto the ground.

I can see the melted cockpit being a nice creative booster for you. Once it stops looking just like all the other sentinel cockpits, you can start to imagine what made it twisted like it is, what kinda augmentations you want to make, etc.

Anyway, once again thanks for sharing and I'm excited to see more!

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.

Aaak. Late May already, and I've let this plog lie neglected for far too long. My apologies. Lately I haven't had as much time for hobbies as I'd like. That and, many of the people I usually wargame with are playing a lot of Blood Bowl lately -- a game that for some reason never really taken hold of my imagination.

I have been picking away at a few daemonic projects here and there. My latest daemon prince conversion, for example -- the Nurgle Prince -- is very nearly finished taking material form, at this point:

As you can see, I decided to try sculpting some hooves (of a sort) for the creature's "feet" -- which worked out well enough, I think.

I also tried working in a "wound" on the cab of the sentinel:

Have to admit, I'm pleased with that part. I love the idea of the vehicle itself becoming more animal, more wounded, as possession infects the thing.

(By the way, there are more WIP pictures in my Dakka gallery, if you're interested. These two shots are just the "done" pictures.)

Actually, nearly done. After I primed what you see here I decided to add a few more daemon tendrils, these ones uncoiling from the ruptured cab in the front (above the horn). Didn't take pictures of these, as they wouldn't stand out with most of the model primed black. You'll be able to see what I mean when I post painting-in-progress pictures, to come in a few days. (I promise!)

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, guys. I've begun painting the beast. Put down some base layers, and the first round of washes.

Another angle:

This is just PIP -- there's a lot more to come -- shading (especially on the gore/daemon tendon parts, to differentiate and deepen the viscera), more washing (particularly on the metal), picking out details, highlighting...

But I wanted to block out the color scheme.

Rather than apply a color-coded Nurgle scheme (olive greens, puss-y yellows, etc.), I opted for a scheme that was more in line with the other parts of the army -- so, human flesh, gore, metal. In an effort to underscore the idea of humans possessed.

Still not sure exactly what I'm going to do with the horn. Maybe "vein" the ridges with blood and gore colors?

Impressive paintjob!

The 'pilot' in particular is very well executed, your choice of using purple/red is very clever (everyone knows an infected wound turns like this - it turns green only when it's far too late )

The veins on the armor plates (especially on the left side) are really good looking.

Great job Tinfoil

i agree with that but i dont think painting it nurgley would go with your nice decapitated human feel if anything just scratch the nurgle symbol on it or add a small nurgle flag

How did you get the idea for this style of army its how chaos should be just messed up and chaotic to look at not knowing were anything begins and ends. Crazy gak man keep it up!

Hey guys! Remember this thread?

Sixth edition giddiness, coupled with the recent appearance of reworked stats for several daemonic creatures, has reawakened the Harrowed. Tzeentch be praised!

Screamers look much more playable. I'll work up another three to add to the six I put together last year, enabling me to field the creatures in sacred formations of nine.

My conversion idea for this unit (which moves as jump troops, and eats into armor) looked like this:

I'll tinker a bit with the idea. And try out a version using the street lights from the 40k imperial scenery kit. That project is just beginning:

Meanwhile, Flamers of Tzeentch in their new manifestation look as lethal as ever -- and the points cost has come down. Meaning rather than field them in suicidal units of three (which never struck me as being particularly interesting to play, tactically speaking), I'll put together larger squads.

My existing Flamers looked like this:

New candidates include this wretch:

...

And this yet more debased monstrosity:

... who'll definitely have a C'thullu vibe...

...and who will be painted with "eye"s all over his bloated brain/skull.

(One thing I like about this one is how his form subtly mirrors the GW Flamers' lines.)

So I'm back at it. The work here is still very rough, still very much WIP, with a lot more embellishment and cleaning up to come.

Thanks for looking. Any input would be most welcome.
