Late May and early June have been super productive for you. The atmosphere pics are awesome, will you be doing an underhive shelf to complement the ash wastes one? I love the birdy, like Borak I find it quite terrifying. I think it’s because it’s something that should be small but is actually huge! I had nightmares like that as a kid, so yeah, thanks for that!

Guardling,

Neat conversion and paint schemes.

@Lord Borak: thanks, I think a part of it is that it's very easy to forget how big it actually is. Also the screaming servitor face probably doesn't help...

@Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll: Thanks, been a fan of Stålenhag for a while, and had wanted to do project based on his work. saw a video about his Labyrinth book and and found the toy bird at just the right time it seems

@youwashock: Thanks, wasn't sure about having a Deathwatch retinue to be honest, just didn't think she should be alone...

@gobert: thanks, I'm making up for my productivity burst by not doing anything now, haha...
I agree with the size thing for the bird, reminds me of the songbird from BioShock Infinite...
As for the display board, it does double duty, trying to figure out getting my LED light back in place at the moment.

@Captain Brown: Thank you!

Anyhow, I have not been up to much the last few weeks, being sent over half the southwest for work and recently acquiring the new Legend of Zelda game has stopped me doing much hobby...
So mostly been picking at things I started a while ago, like this bar:

I started making this about the same time as I started making The Drunk, intending to use it as a background for her picture.
The counter is some 3mm thick polystyrene sign board covered in bits and the bottles are shaved down sprue

+++

Before leaving for a couple of days on a work trip, I used some carpet tape to set up my lights for the previous pictures, when I got back the whole thing had fallen down:

Oh dear, I think I'm going to have to make a ceiling...

+++

Finished another civilian made completly out of frostgrave bits:
The Crone:

Jelena used to be a beauty, a hundred years ago in another life as a successful gang leader.
But her fortunes turned when house Escher started demanding blind obedience and viciousness instead of carefull planning and reasoning skills.
And so she can no longer maintain the rejuvenation treatments that kept her body as sharp as her mind still is.

+++
Last thing is starting something new:

The sketch is what I originally had in mind for the Tall Man. Seeing as I don't have any ogryn servitors (yet) I found something else I can use...

Till next time!

Wow great stuff Guardling. The lights are really nice. Love how the birb came out. I like that you kept the original colours going and just grimmed them up.

The level of detail is fantastic- I can't believe your br bottles are made from sprue! Now I have to try, dadgummit!

Sorry the lights came down; yes, you simply _must_ build a ceiling. I'll sign a note for your doctor.

Great stuff- rock on!

That’s gonna be one hell of an ogryn! Looks like Guilliman to me? Good luck hacking him apart.
To save building a ceiling, maybe you could just build a small frame to mount the lights one? Get some plastic sheet to keep the dust away too?

Thanks, I am a little disappointed that I forgot about the coloured "feathers" that I sanded away during prep though

Thanks, the bottles are surprisingly easy, in the past I have stuck a sprue in a drill and used it as a mini lathe, might try it again and see if I can get a smoother finish

Thanks, I haven't had to do to much hacking.. yet...
I access the shelf quite regularly so I'm not worried about keeping dust out, but I'll add it to the looong list of things I should do...
gobert wrote:Nice erm, turbines?

Haha yes I saw this too, but I definitely wanted to cover the chest area and definitely wanted to use another specific bit as a back pack...
+++

Anyway for whatever reason I can't get into hobby mode right now so here a pic I took a day after my last one:

I can tell you that it was not fun getting all those heads glued in place, but the end is worth it...
Also a pain was the wires on the legs, might add some more.

Next up is to figure out what to do with the arms:

I'm thinking of a lascannon "sniper" but also thinking of "unarmed", maybe a bolter and a power fist.
Also not sure on its allegiance, I'm keeping it as a junk servitor but may have him in my chaos cult colours...

+++
That's it for now, I'm away for work this weekend so I'm gonna take a couple of models with me and a limited selection of paints and see if I can do something to break through the creative block I'm facing...
Edit: no work after all, but will probably follow through on the limited palette thing...
Tata for now!

So in a shocking turn of events, I did the thing I said I was going to do!
Picked five paints, the obvious B-W-R-G-Y, a single brush and a model quite different to what I have been painting lately.
Once prepped I sat down for a couple of hours and cracked something out:

This is a good old plastic space Ork I had lying around, 2nd edition? I'm sure someone will correct me ...

So some things I've learned:
I'm spoiled by washes/contrast.
I should mix paints more often.
I should get a wet palette.
Old models have terrible quality control.
I should do the occasional palette cleanser.

+++

With that done I picked some bits out my current servitor conversion:

I found a some IG autocannons to bring it back to my original hydra sketch which was supposed to be a riff on the Hydra (IG Tank) with Hydra (monster) attributes.
I did do a blu-tac mock-up of the lascannon sniper but decided I didn't like it.
Gonna squeeze it on a 50mm base so it has the same 'footprint' as the Tall Man, and then paint it in my chaos cultists colour scheme...

Till next time!

Nice work on the Ork, really impressive for 5 colours! The auto cannons work really well on the Tall Man Servitor, good choice

That servitor is looking amazing.
I'm getting vibes of the Collector from Darkest Dungeon. Almost certainly not intended, but a similar creepy feel!

The Ork looks excellent, the scheme and painting style really fits the model.

The servitor is looks more and more bad ass with every update, the skulls are such a good idea.

Thanks all!
Last month has been a bit of a bad mental health month and I found I was unable to do anything than trudge around on autopilot.
I had a few moments where I tried to do some hobby but they didn't stick, but now I'm confident that I have broken through that wall...

It was my birthday recently and so partner got me some new forgeworld minis:

Obviously there's one thing I did straight away:

Assemble the cat!
Was pleasantly surprised by this one as it wasn't in the picture on the box.

+++

With that little bump in my spirits I started on some easy painting:

These are just Dryad Bark, some splodges of orange, a heavy brush of Mournfang Brown and finally a drybrush of Leadbelcher.
Gotta add some washes of something at some point but they're almost good enough...
Also started building up a hab unit to go with:

I disagree with the massive holes on the platform so covered them in plasticard.
Way back when, I was going to turn it into a toilet block but I have since changed my mind, probably going to dining area now.
Toilets will have to go in a armoured container or something...

+++

Lastly here's the latest on Servitor Hydra:

And a base:

Most of the cracked slab is actually made from a snipped up frostgrave base...

+++

Tata for now, will try not to leave it so long next time!

Thanks Captain Brown!

I have been keeping at the but been forgetting to document and also putting a post together for Dakka can take me hours.
So normally I do it at work but works been busy so haven't had the chance yet.

+++
Anyways in rough chronological order:
More detailing on my hab unit:

A sink, draining board and a (non-potable) water supply for it. I plan to expand the counter top and have a hot plate/microwave as well as a fridge on this side.

Some tables and an external access lader for the other side. Tables will get some chairs, eventually.
Need to add a bit more detailing to the blank wall maybe just some panels or some outlets...

+++

Started putting together the first box of Forgeworld minis:

These guys are pretty much as should be, just separated, I think I need to redo the trailing wire on the cherub though, so it actually looks like a trailing wire...

Weapons trader got a bit of a change as I removed the Heavy Bolter, I try to keep special weapons special in my section of the underhive.
This also means I can used the imperial guard box that's full of lasguns for her...

Last one had the biggest change:

Didn't like the dandy look of the beast tamer and though he was more uphive feeling than the others.
So now he's a Rouge Trader who'll be attached to my Naval Armsmen...
There was a lot of cutting to get things to fit and then I did some gap filling with a blend of milliput and green stuff.

+++

Servitor Hydra got finished and now I have added some washes to my Ash Wastes walkways he gets a photo shoot:

Cobbled together from scrap parts and some light autocannons, this servitors purpose was area denial for low flying aircraft. Since then it has found its way into cultist service where, lacking access to its Auspex network, it does an effective job on light ground vehicles.
+++
Lastly I put some paint to the Rouge trader:

Need to touch him up and write some fluff for him.
That's all for now! Bye-bye!

Sorry to hear things have been tough going lately. Looks like your mojo seems to be returning. The ash wastes scenery is looking great. The hab block is really cool, loads of interesting details going in to it. The Servitor and rouge trader look really cool. The script on the scroll is really well done

Finally got some fluff together:
The Rogue Trader:

Charlot Van Mountebank earned his Warrant of Trade after his service in the Gothic war.
He is very eager to tell you about his Naval heroics in the Lysades subsector; he tells tales of how he singlehandedly liberated the hive world of Corlina from chaos occupation, how he helped turn the mining world of Tarantis into a respectable forgeworld and how his ship pummeled the Planet Killer over the skies of Schindelgeist...

+++
In other news, I have been trying to start painting up my Into The Dark terrain.
I've done some batch painting for the caps of the walls already...
I didn't like my initial white test because it went badly with the washes so I tried something closer to my Zone Mortalis style:

Then I decided to have another go at the white using a different method:

The part were primed in white so this time a put a thinned layer of Steel Legion Drab, concentrating on the lower half of the piece.
I wasn't to worried about coverage, just the recesses, so I only did the one layer and let it dry.
The piece then got a heavy brush of Rakarth Flesh, trying to get in the recesses I missed with the Drab.
After that a good hard drybrush of Corax (?) White concentrating on the top half.
Some pin washes of Agrax and picking out the details before some streaks of various washes and I have something that I'm happy with...
Gotta find a sponge so I can stipple some dirty down rust on to match a couple of othe bits I've done...

+++
See you next time!
