Subject: Total Extinction - Kickstarter - Last 48 hours! (new prototype p.17)
It is the year 562, the age of Diaspora. Humanity, established in hundreds of worlds throughout the known universe, is fighting for survival against cruel alien races, and even against each other as confronted by disputes that appear increasingly absurd.
One world after another is engulfed by the fury of the war while the contenders are fighting ruthlessly to prevent Total Extinction.
Cover concept
Total Extinction is a futuristic wargame with miniatures of 28mm for 2 or more players.
Players take command of a battalion of troops from one of the Star Nations (Glorlon, Union Colony, Regulatory Corporation, Elohim, Skraldar or Theocracy) facing a relentless war for survival. Each battalion is divided into units consisting of between 1 and 9 miniatures and led by a commander.
The game is divided into a series of turns (typically up to 6) which can be solved in about 2 hours. On each turn, alternately, players are activating their units that can move, shoot and even assault enemy units to take control of key areas of the battlefield (Objectives) and win the game. To achieve the victory, the armies also have the help of their commanders, who, by skillful tactics (represented by cards), can provide better techniques to attain their goals.
The artwork is amazing! It seems like this is a skirmish game, is that correct? May I suggest using a term other than battalion? That implies a much larger formation than 1-9 models. I'm looking forward to see what the rules have to offer that other rulesets don't already, I just hope the minis do the concepts justice...
Also, was my tank design (see my signature) part of the inspiration for the tank shown here? The front end of the turret looks overwhelmingly familiar

If you can´t see the photos in our webpage (sentinel-games.com) there´s a lot of concept arts. Wish you like it!
The game is of battles between units of infantry or vehicles. Each unit has between 1 and 9 soldiers/vehicles. Five units plus a commander (20 minis, more or less) is called a "company", and several companies (or just one in battles of less than 1000 points) is a Battalion. I know that real "companies" and "battalion" are higher than that, but we think is a name that everyody understands.
We didn´t know your design but are awesome! Our inspiration are the real tanks like the Abrams.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The biotank prototype is not so good as can be, we are printing again. When we have it, we will show you

Ah, okay thanks for clarifying on the units and everything. I thought the battalion was 1-9 models, but that makes more sense. So this is a mass combat game then? Darn, was hoping it would be more skirmish oriented (I have too many toy soldiers as it is lol).
Will you be running a kickstarter in the future by any chance? Really looking forward to seeing more artwork/miniatures.

Probably we start a Kickstarter for the game in septembter/october, when we have the protoypes of 10 units already made.
Why crowdfunding? Nowadays is very difficult to get credit from a bank in Spain, and if you get it at very high interest rates. So we want to develop the game with our own resources and seek help from the gaming community for serial production
Intriguing, very intriguing. I love the vehicles, they actually look like functional concepts that human beings would build for use in outer space. The only reservation I have is that the Union and Corporate troops look a wee bit similar.
Out of interest, what scale are you planning to do the figures in? Most new companies seem to be abandoning "sorta-28mm" heroic and going for something closer to truescale in the 30-32mm height range, which would be nice; hopefully you're not going to pull a Dystopian Wars, heh.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
I like your concepts a lot, but renders shown on bases can be easily mistaken for photos of actual models. Looks like all art, renders, and one 3D print atm.
Still fantastic, though! Will be watching with great interest

The humans look very nice in the concept art and I await the posting of their model or render pics. One thing I'd recommend though is getting rid of the pic of the 3d printed model in WSF material. The resolution on White Strong and Flexible is poor for minis and I'd recommend only posting pics of Frosted Ultra Detail or at a minimum FD if the former is too expensive (assuming you used shapeways). In the meantime, post pics of the 3d renders instead as the material in that pic doesn't show the details adequately.
May I recommend *NOT* using shapeways/similar large scale commercial printers for your prototypes? Shapeways (and similar) generally don't use the higher-end printers, or if they do they have it set on lower setttings since they prioritze speed over detail (and those services aren't necessarily meant for the modelling community where superfine details are emphasized). Try these guys (or similar "boutique" services):
They DO use high end printers set to produce the highest level of detail/resolution on their printers because it *IS* for prototyping purposes. It costs significantly more to do it this way, but the results are worth it, especially if you're going to want to sell your product to others.

The scale is 28mm "realistic". The first human models will e ready in a few days and you can see it.
The model sample are print with Shapeways Frosted ultra detail and painted in white to try to see the details better. We are not very happy with this first prototypes so we are looking for others printers. chaos0xomega, thanks for the link, I will try there.
For sample photos, I would recommend painting a light/medium grey and then giving it a light black wash (like a black wash but thinned down with water, you want it to dry to a dark grey color rather than an actual black). Thats how other companies do it, using white or black tends to make it harder to see the definition of the model, whereas the grey gives you the best of both worlds, and the black wash darkens the recesses up a bit to give better contrast.
