How long do you spend painting your average troop, such as: Ork boy, Tactical marine, Fire warrior etc.

It takes me around 45 minutes a figure, in the following order: base->wash->detail->wash->eyes. I try to do a bunch at a time, as the waiting for the wash to dry takes the longest.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

In the warp, searching for Marbo

Takes me anywhere from 1.5 too 2.5 hours to paint a guardsman. Sigh...but it's the end result that counts, and if it looks halfway decent, and that's all that matters.

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

Depends entirely on the model.

For 40k, I can knock out, say, a Gaunt, in under an hour. Something larger, say, a Hive Guard? I'd say 5 hours. There's more layering to do, since that red is so vibrant it takes a good 6-7 layers at least, and I do extra highlighting on carapaces and weapons. Something even bigger, like a Carnifex? I'd say 10 hours. Same reason for the mid sized models - more surface to do lots of red layers on, more carapace that gets more highlighting, bigger weapons that get multiple highlight levels. Even bigger? The biggest model I've ever painted is still a work in progress, my Tervigon. Right now it's at the 6-7 hour mark, the red is not finished (still got one leg, the torso and the head to go), it's got much, much more carapace, and has leather type colouring on its egg sac like my Gargoyle wings. So I'd estimate it's going to hit the 15 hour mark. My Heirophant? That thing is a fething monster that will easily hit 20 hours once built.

For Fantasy, admittedly, I haven't painted much, but I can knock out a batch of 5 skeletons in about an hour with a simple blocking in of colours, single highlight, and all over wash of Army Painter Strong Tone Ink. They don't look fantastic up close, but when you've got 50 to paint which doesn't even make up half of your Core allotment, you tend to let go of wanting to paint them really well. I haven't put much work into my Vampires, however.

For Infinity, it varies a lot more. My initial Ghulam I knocked out in a few hours each. Later models like my Hassassins and Al Hawwa took longer, probably in excess of 4-5 hours each, due to refining my scheme and learning how to paint these highly detailed models better.

On boyz I paint a bunch at a time, like 5 - 10 boyz one stage at a time, put the time together I spend something like 20-40 minutes on each, and they are pretty simplistic.
I haven't started painting my Ogres yet, but I figure that'l take at least an hour on each basic troop model, and several more on HQs

It depends on the model. I can churn out an entire guardsman squad with a simple block-highlight-wash-weather scheme in the same time I'll spend on a single tactical marine(basecoat-layer-layer-wash-wash-freehand), about 40mins-1 hour. Characters obviously take longer, about 2 hours. Vehicles are probably in the same region as characters if I'm brush-painting, or a bit less if I roll out the airbrush.

Let's see...on average it has taken me over 2 years to get a single Eldar painted...

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

On average about 90 minutes or so if the scheme is forgiving ... if it's a bright color scheme, or lots of contrast, 2+ hours.

I paint very slowly, and i'm anal retentive about it.

I do all my basic models in batches but even still, I can knock out a full (10 man) Cultist Squad in under an hour, and while its been a while since I painted a Tac Squad I'm sure I could do a similar timeframe.

Some people paint faster than others. For example, according to people he works with, Angel Giraldez throws out something like this in a few hours. Granted, he gets paid to do it for a living, but I couldn't even begin to paint something like that, let alone in a few hours. Personally, I take far, far longer per model and my stuff isn't anywhere near that sort of quality. It's purely tabletop quality.

Far too long. I'm completely OCD when it comes to painting so it takes me a while to paint a single troop. My necron warriors when I started took me, what, 1 hour and something each? The immortals probably 2 or more each.

I haven't painted any CSM in a long time (I somehow finished them all), but I can knock out a group of five Guardsmen, highlighted and washed, in about 6 hours. So I guess 1-1.5 hours is about right for a plebe.

HQs and tanks get special attention, of course.

It takes roughly 40 mins to paint a firewarrior. It is hard to tell the exact amount of time because I paint a squad at a time (all the base coats then all the washes, etc,).

I selected 2 hours + on the poll though because my most recent armies have been a draigowing army (I took my time with those paladins) and my current WIP farsight enclave (I anticipate each suit taking a very long time).
