@ gits/reaper: glad you think so. Somehow, because I don't have a finished mini to show for it (let alone the Mentors), it doesn't feel that way. Yeah, house is a bit of a swine, but I'm lucky to have very good, very professional builders to call on. The way I look at it is it's not £60k, which is a new roof, if left unattended. Yay optimism, etc.

@DSS: yup. -a-go-go baby.

@DivCom: Ta - I've had the model since xmas (again - wife liked the fig, so she got me it) but I've not really had a place for it in my Mentors (I have a ton o' Libbies) and my plans to run him in GK were scuppered by GK Libbies being Termie only. So, a solution was the Tech; also, I've noticed the lack of serious ranged punch in my GKs, so this might even fill a functional hole in the force! (great handle btw - Dante or Hannon? )

@tipios: Cheers. I wanted to echo the armour plating on the bodywork. I realised it wasn't the exposed head (hello? sergeants?) that annoyed me, it was just how vulnerable the rest of him looked dangling there. It's actually now got its terracotta and fortress on, too, thanks to 5 mins spare in the middle of making dinner (tandoori salmon ftw).

@Revenent: cheers mate. Glad you like the green; it's super crisp and really rich. I think it may be the future.

Now in theory I wanted to get my GKs done for Monday, or at least 1500 pts worth, when I'm playing erithromycin again (glass ninjas of doom though this time). Not going to happen *sigh* but I'm going to try to get the greys up to their white, at least (>sepia wash>50:50 Vj Dead White/GW fortress grey>Dead white highlights) which you can just about make out on a couple of them already (eg Crowe, or indeed the test fig way back).

Cheers for continued support me hearties: it's lifted me out of the blue funk I was in from block painting.

Later,
graven.

You have my sympathy friend. We had our roof re-done two years ago and have a continual fight with bees in our kitchen wall... little fethers. Also birds drilling holes in the house and nesting in the walls... more little fethers.

If it wasn't for the kids I'd get some army surplus claymores and fix all their wagons!

Looking boss Graven!

Any chance of a closer/in focus shot of your NDK pilots shoulders arms? I'm interested in what you came up with there.

Over all great looking models thus far!

Glad to see the Conf to Inquisitions going on. The Conversion Beamer's looking good and I like the darker GK scheme.

@llama - well, we love a bit of conf, don't we?!

@Knightley - ta mucker. Ask, and ye shall receive:

The arm covers are furioso weapon covers; I removed the horns from the libby skull plate and added a wreath. I intend to use a FW brass etched GK shield over the right shoulder, and add text with a micron pen to the left.

The leg covers are dread leg guards stuck bottom-to-bottom, with the posts cut off.

Hope that's useful,

You've definitely taken the edge off of the baby carrier look. That's just a stellar job. I really didn't think anyone could pull that off. Beautiful work.

Indeed, that's an astonishing amount of work... I really dig that red + metal scheme for the GKs, it looks really good (and "shiny" enough for your significant other )!!!

The kitbashed models also look very good, the robed bodies add a solemn tone to them that is pretty welcome!!

Nice job on the special characters too, especially on Crowe whose pose can't be mistaken!

Awesome job!

@Briancj:

@tipios: well quite. Also, it's a conversion that's quick, easy and effective, using parts that are readily available - all things I like!

@Yggs: merci etc! Really happy with how the Crowe went down, yeah. Glad you like both the colour scheme and the mix-and-match aesthetic (though it owes a lot to Knightley's outstanding work).

Like I say, I really appreciate the support folks. Not sure if anything will get done this weekend as anniversary tomorrow and wife on a baking course Sunday - Might get #1 to help me drybrush the now gravelled and primed RoB board (1 bag of railway ballast and 3 cans of chaos black spray later) but that'll probably be about it.

It's definitely a step up from the original. I'd be tempted to use the new Forgeworld Heresy Dreads if I ever wanted one myself (Well 2 my Nefarius Clone will do fine as far as I'm concerned!).

Mostly, on my phone.

Today I had a cheery game of 1.5k v erithromycin's pet glass ninjas. What a game, absolute bloodbath.
Here goes, I ran:

Mordrak 200
Ghost Knights 250 Falchions Banner
TStrike 130 Halberds Psycannon
Strike 130 Halberds Psycannon
Razorback 55 Dozer Psybolt
NDK 240 Jump Hvy Inc Psyflame
Callidus 145
Ven Dread 200 TLAC Psybolt
Interceptor 150 NDH Psycannon

1500

Apologies if that doesn't conform to army list etiquette! But hey, cut and paste from excel - pretty good.

We were playing quarters with 3 objectives, and I won the toss:

Foolishly, I scouted the Interceptors into the open, and then lost the initiative. They died, very, very rapidly:

Bladestorm yo-yo proved very nasty in this game. I thought it would be a bright idea to stick Mordrak in the middle of this to tarpit; they proceeded to get cut to shreds by the Fire Dragons, who would preoccupy me all game. My Ven dread didn't do much but draw fire (razorback did better, thinning ranks of the enemy), whilst the strike squad dutifully plugged away, eradicating the Striking Scorpions to a man bar one that popped with the Callidus:

I know there's a lot of hate on Strike Squads but, I gotta say, they've proven solid objective holders for me. Only thing I might do is switch to force swords just to keep the points lean on them.

The Ven dread finally bought it but, ultimately, had proved a target to absolutely everything so arguably a valuable resource. The NDK dropped in on top of the Pathfinder squad and eradicated them with a single shot (well... 3 ran away) while the strike squads gradually whittled down the Fire Dragons numbers, leading to the epic 3-turn Phoenix Lord v Callidus battle

Actually, it was more he was tied up, whilst occasional rending shots got through. Bless the Callidus, she's a stone-cold stunna.

NDK took out a squad of Dark Reapers, before the other squad dispatched him:

Callidus finally took down the Phoenix Lord, and ran a healthy sprint over to the remaining DRs, leaving us with this:

A great game, all round - very, very close, in fact. We both heartily enjoyed it, and learned a lot from it. In my case, do not leave regular termies exposed - weight of fire/high Initiative will ultimately do for you - and Mordrak's Ghost Knight ability's not as great as it seems. Also, Psycannons rule, razorbacks plug holes in GK lists neatly, and maybe one day, my interceptors might actually do something.

Garage clear-out tomorrow, not much painting will get done I fear. However, RoB is primed, as y'all can see: did a test tile with artist's acrylic, not happy, though entirely fixable; was going to spray it but airbrush seems to have a blockage. Boo, rubbish, etc.

Cool BR Graven, I've found that my TLAC always has done me a solid almost every round (provided I'm shooting at the right targets) I find that its my scouts which are letting me down at the moment (May trash them for a Techmarine for my tanks)

I've also found that interceptors are pants as well, mine always fail to impress me.

Interesting Battle Report shame about the Interceptors. Although why use their move so early? Surely the best use of them is to keep them back supporting your strike squads and then shunt them onto an objecctive at the very last moment?

@Knightley: I think where I'm going wrong is thinking that models can survive after Deep Strike/Shunt without assaulting. As an assault army, to deprive them of that is a fundamental flaw (on my part). Roll on the Storm Raven! As for the TLAC, it was the lack of appropriate targets more than the TLAC itself, really.

@llamahead: I agree using their move early was a waste, but as FA they can't take an objective. However, I'm seriously considering giving them the option with a Grand Master instead.

Ah, happy days. This leads to a wee bits order, colour Sakura Pigma Micron Pens from the USA and a order with FW - not a whole lot for myself, the =][= brass etch and a IG general with flag for my =][= chimera (not seen the fig before, smitten). I would have ordered the imperial strongpoint, but it's not going to be available till mid August, so I guess I'll wait *sigh*. Could easily go crazy with bits from FW, especially for GK, but am attempting not to go crazy with pennies.

I have £30 in amazon vouchers kicking about so that'll either be more TAGK or another NDK - thoughts? If it helps I have the bits to make another 6 TAGK lurking in my bitzbox just now anyway.

I also picked up a lovely 28mm Discworld Librarian to be another Jokaero, they look great together, like some deranged simian double act.

On the p&m front, I have a big announcement, though no pics: all block painting of first stage colours plus sepia washing is complete!

Well, ish. A couple of paladins with book icons need the books painted, not settled on colour. Also, Interceptors need their jumps painted, not settled on green or blue, I keep dithering. Lastly, I've not put down the purple on any of the force weapons yet, but that's because it'll happen when I'm shading cloth.

2 weeks left of holidays. 6 days of painting, assuming (a) no DIY and (b) I don't keep #1 off nursery for a play day. Let's say 4 days of painting, realistically. Can I get the army, in its presbt form, done? Dunno. But I'm going to have a bash!

@Miss Dee: if you've got them spare m'dear that'd rock my little world. Might have another of those giant horned skulls if you're needing.

@Knightley: Thanks bud. Yeah, I'm inclined that way too, if only so I can do a greatsword/hvy psycannon one. Or double ranged weapon, though that's yet more converting. However any NDK would also mean raiding bits stores and/or the kindness of strangers (aka swap shop) for 4 more furioso plates (anyone...?) to suitably beef it a la previous.

Well, I always heard the ndk with a greatsword is always a great investment, considering the power of raw close combat devastation, so that's where I place my vote.

The painting of all, or a lot, of your stuff in 4 days, though... I dunno, a pretty big task. Though anyone who can do it gets a pat on the back from me, who hasn't quite finished painting/ repainting the force I've had for... how many years now?

@LKII (further acronymic joy ): I was underwhelmed by the Hammer - it seemed redundant, what with it attack as an MC, though it looks cool. It saves me having to work my gs fu on the sword I have to make new fingers, too, though it's not a particularly tricky job. As for the task itself, well, I think I'll just take it one fig at a time: I'm not going to go down the path of block painting again, for that way madness lies.
