Assembled and primed a regiment of 20 line infantry for my 19th century ImagiNation. Intend to lay down the base colours and contrast paints tonight and tomorrow after work. Would like the unit to be finished by the end of next week so I can proceed with the next regiment, and a commander, so they can be fielded as a brigade in Black Powder.

Well over the month of October I burned through 30 minis I had primed in my pile. I rewarded myself by buying some terrain to paint up as well as started building up my new "to do" pile.
Going to try and get some priming done tonight as the weather is actually nice.

Half through my wife's ASOIAF army. Should have it done just in time for the rest of it to release >.<
In the wrong direction, I got my models to update my DW post codex. Built and primed, just need to clear the queue to work on them. So... wrong direction. :(

Ended up trying a completely different painting philosophy (painting 'inside out' and starting with faces and hair, instead of starting on the largest areas and working down to faces etc).
Spent the last two evenings basecoating, washing and highlighting the faces and hair of my 20 Ghepsmark Regulars. Hopefully will make a start contrast painting the tunics tonight before joining in One Page Rules' biannual Game Jam.

I made this change a few years ago and it is much easier.
My Pile of Shame was down to 0, so I started building my 2021 Pile of Shame by ordering an army of Republican Romans and an Army of Vikings from Victrix. That should keep me busy for a bit!

Yeah, its a bit slower going for me, but it also means I can actually try my best with painting base, wash and highlight. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but this is the first time in my (nearly 20 year long) hobby life that I have attempted highlights - I have always been afraid of ruining them.
The faces, hands and facial hair has now all been done to a satisfactory standard, and the bits of the model that are being contrasted have been tidied up. Tonight, I will most likely paint the hats and muskets.

Finished my wife's Targaryen army last night. Hopefully the Unsullied and Dragons get released soon, but I hear talk of delays. In the meantime I'm finishing the last units of the Night's Watch before their attachment box is released.
Next on the queue is my Deathwatch updates. Outriders and Vanguard marines mostly.

I painted the hats and shoes on my Ghepsmarkers last night, as well as 3/5ths of the musket wood stocks. Tonight, I finish the muskets, and maybe begin on the trousers!

The last of my 2020 Pile of Shame and painting.
https://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2020/12/on-painting-desk-ancients-from-victrix.html
However, I did find a few old 25th Anniversary Battletech Boxed set models banging around, so I might finish those off before the end of 2020. However, anything else I have left to paint will be "discoveries" that were never really in my painting queue.

Next update, got a few more things done
Blood Bowl- still done
Batman - doing the last few highlights on my League of Assassins stuff, after that it's starter set Batman and the BMG stuff is done, with DCU still languishing behind. That's only 7 models though so easy to get done at some stage
Warcry - Untamed Beasts, Chimera and Gitz are all painted. Beasts and Chimera need basing but that can wait. Terrain and Chaotic Beasts still need doing
Malifaux - I'm down to 2 unpainted keywords in Outcasts, and my Ten Thunders are only 6 models off being fully painted too. Very happy with my progress, will probably pick up a bit more soon to flesh out some of the smaller crews and finish full keywords rather than owned keywords (these are the 2 unpainted ones though)
Legion - Progress has stalled, but I've got 500 points painted. Just need to make the final push on the last 2 boxes and get them done
Lord of the Rings - Still haven't touched any of this and probably won't for a while.
Bolt Action - Added on cause it's been in the pile for a long time and nothing's been done to it. My gaming group are playing it but I'm finding motivation hard here.
The Other Side - I've got a full faction of King's Empire and none of it has any paint on it. I could get it painted but I'm not playing it so I see little point at this stage.
40k - Add this too because I'm going back and touching up old paintjobs/stripping and redoing where necessary. Making a lot of changes on things to prepare for the new edition and I'll probably buy more stuff at some stage once
Update for a few more things
Batman - It's done! DCU included, everything is finished unless I find more lying around in the backs of cupboards
Malifaux - Still in progress, but I've got the last things for my Outcasts on the table and 1-2 days off finished (the entire faction!) and diving into getting my Bayou finished in the next week or so as well. For something that started the year as such a huge hurdle of random schemes there's a light now at the end. I'm going to call this done when my Outcasts, Ten Thunders and Bayou are finished because it's only one more crew otherwise, and I have no immediate plans for it anyway.
Warcry/Malifaux/Bushido - I've left a lot of things painted but not based over the last few months. Once the current lot is cleared off my desk, and with it completing the factions for all 3 of these games, I'm going to be doing a few big batches of basing to get them finally finished and table ready
Legion - It came out onto the desk, then got put away again in favour of other things. It's still on my mind though so will definitely happen soon
Batman/Bushido - still done. Haven't bought anything new but it's all finished
Malifaux - working on it, now have my Outcasts all but finished (6/8 keywords entirely, number 7 needing basing and the rest in some stage of paint. Ten Thunders and Bayou in the same state but I'm knocking over most of what's left over the last few weeks so should be able to tick it off by the end of the year (despite buying 2 entire new keywords over the last 2 months)
Legion - I got given a clone army and my Rebels still aren't finished... One day
Updates! Almost everything I've listed here is done (Legion and Malifaux I'm working on the last things for both as we speak) but I have a few more things to work through. LotR I've fully finished Rangers and Dead of Dunharrow to a point where I have every list I want to play fully painted, but my Easterlings are still lagging behind for next year. The Other Side is in the same boat where I haven't touched it, but I finally found a new opponent so that's on the cards at some point (when I feel like painting it really). All in all it's been a good year for the backlog even though the collection has grown, because I've managed to keep on top of it

Excellent work!
I'm kind of treading water at the moment. Made a few purchases, painted them up rather than add them to the pile. Working on my Deathwatch right now and while a lot of it is new stuff (Vanguard Marines) and relatively new stuff (Indomitus) I've just about finished the last set of Firstborn in my unpainted pile. Had I gone with my gut and just sold the Assault Marines rather than convert up their shoulders I'd probably be in range to have Deathwatch 100% done.
Also got another batch of ASoIaF stuff to paint. Should be it until Targaryen's get their releases. Still keeping up with MCP. The other thing that has me losing ground is buying the Lantern sets from Knight. I'll probably never play them but the Sinestro Corps War is probably my all time favorite comic arc. Still need to double down on clearing the backlog though. I feel its sliding the wrong way ever so slowly.

I buckled down around the time the pandemic started and made myself a Trello Board to keep track of all my projects and their progress.
Currently, my boards sit at:
"3D Printer Projects" (this is the stuff that is waiting to 3D printed): 3 projects
"In the Closet" (this is the stuff that is new in the box): 31 Projects
"Salvage" (Stuff that was built and maybe painted but then broke or was abandoned): 7 Projects
"Build in Progress": 5 Projects
"Ready to Paint": 6 Projects
"Paint in Progress": 3 Projects
"Done": 22 Projects
22 Projects doesn't seem like a lot. but I count a "box" as a project more or less. So like a battleforce box would be considered 1 project. In terms of actual numbers. Since I started tracking in march I have painted:
A full table of terrain
The Blackstone Fortress Minis
around 65-ish individual models.
I am very hopeful that in 2021 I will be able to take this backlog down to zero

In the closing days of 2020, I found some unpainted Battletech Mechs from the old 25th Anniversary Boxed set. I had painted the other mechs about 4-5 years ago, so trying to match the paint schemes for paints I no longer had was a bit of a challenge....
I have no idea about anything Battletech related beyond the basic lore books in the Anniversary box that I skimmed. Therefore, these are definitely for various Merc units and not any canon faction from BT. I wouldn't even know where to start on those!
Maybe in 2021, I will actually give the game a shot. I doubt it, but who knows.

My last update was in April . I thought I would keep track of unopened models, unbuilt models, built models etc - but in the end I think a simple models in vs models out will suffice. Okay, with a "small" bit of differentiation in model sizes .
I completed 19 models this year, consisting of 18 regular and 1 monster. I bought 15 models this year, consisting of 11 regular, 3 cavalry and 1 vehicle.
My goals were: Complete more than I add.Complete a minimum of 10 models.
I'm counting this year a minor success.
See you next year!

Bought 2 painted 113 including 5 large centerpiece models. Very happy with that and have plenty to still work on.
Will keep to very limited purchases this coming year. both my purchases were great updates to characters I like.

I have only recently come back into the hobby over the last few months, but already have a sizable pile of miniatures.
Most of these miniatures have been donated or sold as cheap bulk lots. Most of it in terrible condition. Quite a lot of it well outside of my interest at the moment.
The plan is for 2021,go through it trying to identify what is there. Clean up what I can, Sell on or swap on what is not needed and just get back to what I like the look of.
Space is a bit of a premium where I live so I would rather have a few models I like then boxes of miniatures.
Then again I find it extremely hard to say no.
What with work and family life, Motivation will be my worse enemy here.

Final update for 2020:
Since the beginning of October when I last posted I've finished the Indominus Captain, Lieutenant, and Ancient, a Biovore and seven Spore Mines, eleven Fallout Super Mutants, six objective markers, a Terrain Crate Industrial Zone (which the buyer wanted modular so it was actually 84 separate pieces, that was having my soul pulled out through my paint brush), The Red Terror, a Lictor, ten Termagaunts, and a Soul Grinder.
I regret falling off the thread, it was good to have the constant motivation to keep putting paintbrush to model and I look forward to Fighting the Pile of Shame 2021.

I posted in this thread this time last year.
Turaxa wrote:I was thinking about this myself recently, so I'll join in. My plan is to complete at least one model per month. This might seem like setting the bar awfully low, but the models could be anything from tiny Reaper miniatures to full 1:144 kits.
I didn't contribute further because my progress was slight. However, whilst I didn't actually complete a model in each calendar month, averaged out over the year I did meet my goal.
(Of course, with purchases taken into account, the pile remains as large as ever. )

Fighting the pile of backlog is easier than before since GW has problems with delivery to the EU atm.
My pile includes:
Necrons (60 Warriors, several characters, Skorpekhs and whatnot)
Eldar support batteries.

Decided to keep track of this for this year currently I'm 17 painted to 227 in. Bloodborne kickstarter mainly but several Bones models I've had my eye on for years as well.
