Simple question, which is your favourite one of the bunch.
With the recent release of X-HD it has taken up a massive portion of my life. So it is probably my favourite one. Second place might be VIII because of the levelling system and because I really feel for the characters.

I will watch with interest. Been after a FF to play as a gateway to them. Although, with PC, Wii, DS, 3DS and GBC only, I can't play the later ones :(

My first one was 8. But because I was about 8 years old at the time it was completely lost on me and I confused myself to death.
I played 10 a few years later and it was the first one I finished. So it has always been the one I relate to best.

I loved VI, but I really felt strong ties to IV as well. Knowing VI would be the more popular, I needed to throw a vote for IV. The destruction Cecil unleashes unwittingly, being a pawn, and rising to be the hero he always intended to be? Yeah, it was...noble. Even for way back then, the characters meant something. Granted, it wasn't as much of a hell on earth when (feth spoilers here) Aeris died in VII and everyone was using her and lost all gear on her (I chuckled when I heard the rages at that). But it was definitely a well designed game. I'd tie it with VI, in my book of enjoyment, so again, it gets the vote, only because I can't vote twice.

This poll reminds me of how far this series has fallen. Both in terms of story and in terms of gameplay. I voted for 6 and though it is my favorite (by a long stride), I also believe that it was 6 where the first fraying in gameplay took place. It's where the problems started.

It's close between 7, 6 and 9, but 7 edges it.
6 had lots of charm, and a great plot, but it was perhaps a little limited by the technology, as far as being "an experience" goes.
7 had the same charm, and at the time it was a really cinematic, immersive experience. It's one of the games I've replayed the most, and it's always good fun, though nothing will beat how absorbed I was by my first play through- man, I remember being stuck at the materia keeper for ages, and all the grinding I did on Wutai!
Going back and finding all the secrets and easter eggs was really satisfying, and they were pretty brave in leaving that much of the plot to be found on subsequent playthroughs. Plus, it took me years to figure out how to beat all the Weapons.
9 had the best setting, I think, I loved the mist and the general feel of the world, and I also really liked a lot of the stories they had going on and some of the combat innovations. It loses out a bit because I didn't find the villain that compelling, and the actual end boss sucks!
So, I think 7 wins it for me.
8 was lacklustre, and I detest the voice acting in the later games so I've never been able to play any of them.

For me, it's a dead tie between VII and X.
X was the first one I ever played, and good God, did that game have a brilliant combat system. You could actually plan out your moves based on who was going to go next, there was a neat sort of rock-paper-scissors thing going on between characters and enemy types, and most importantly you could actually swap out characters at any time during your own turn. I was so sad to see that system go, because it's probably my all-time favorite way of doing combat in the series.
Even if the story wasn't great, I could honestly forgive it for doing pretty much everything else right. Music was great, visuals were great, and the combat was fantastic.
As for VII, well...honestly, at this point it's the fact that the story is still pretty good, with some great themes of pollution and environmentalism amid the usual fare of having a villain trying to destroy the world. The combat was the same as the rest of the Final Fantasy games up till then (aside from the first), but there's a reason they stuck with it for so long - it worked really well.
Ultimately, I have to vote for X, because really, the only negatives I have for it are the story and some of the characters (the relationship between Auron, Jecht and Braska is great, or at least what little we actually see of it is). Everything else was pretty much spot-on.

1, 2, and X. I have the NES cartridge for 1, and the dawn of souls (1&2 remastered) for Gameboy. X was the first one I played after that. X-2 and XII were garbage, so I stopped playing the new titles. Still playing 1, going for 4 White Mages...

I love XII, I've heard people complain about the gambits system making it possible for the game to play itself, and the bland/decoy protagonist (Admittedly, I find Vaan annoying), but it's got a really massive world, lots of stuff to do other than storyline, and a Bestiary to end all Bestiaries. I love hunting down rare monsters to find out that extra paragraph of flavour text, I could (and have) spent hours quite happily roaming the map looking for new stuff to kill.
You have some really badass enemies - aesthetically as well as story-wise, I can't get enough of the judges, and easily one of my favourite videogame characters, Balthier the sky pirate,
Balthier: "Ah! The prison repository of wrested relics and raiments!"
Vaan: "So our things are in here?"
Balthier: "That's what I said..."
The hunts are great, and can get demonically challenging, collecting all the optional espers is a tough challenge even by the endgame (looking at Zodiark in particular) and the quickenings are actually useful!
And even when you've explored every inch of the map, fought your way through the lowest floors of the Pharos (It's rough down there) and level-grinded until you can kill the final story boss easily, you have the Yiazmat.
The dragon with over 50,000,000 hp. The damage cap your characters can hit is 9999. And that thing is not the type to let you get away with hitting it. That's a 2 hour job unless you're really good/lucky.
Even if you beat it, you can always do it again and try and beat your time
I did play XIII a while back - put 2 hours in and was still "on rails", so I traded it in - Didn't really care about the characters or story.

Not sure how this poll is missing Tactics... or has any options other than Tactics.
So out of spite I'm going to say Shin Megami Tensei : Persona 4.

I would say 7 followed by 6 with 8 then 9 next.
In my mind 8 has the best first disc of any game in the series but it starts to lose steam after that.

Honestly, after playing the Shin Megami Tensei games, I could never really get into Final Fantasy. Having played 3,7,8, and 14, I'd have to say that 8 was my favourite, but that doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. Although I do want to play 9.
That said, I have a three book collection of all of Yoshitaka Amano's (lead artist for FF1-6, 9) artwork from FF1-10 sitting on the shelf beside me at this very moment (along with four other books of his). While I don't really care much for the games themselves, Amano is one of my absolute favourite artists (just behind Jean Giraud/Moebius), and the work he did for the final fantasies is truly inspiring.
It's a shame that the artist now doing most of the work for them, Tetsuya Nomura, is nowhere near his level of quality. Everything is generic spikey haired animu with him. He's been getting better over time, but I still don't like his work.
