So, anyone caught this fine film yet?
Personally, I thought it was quite good. Even though there was a lot of stuff going on (Electro, Peter + Gwen, Peter's parents, Harry Osborn...), they did a decent job of weaving the plots together to bring everything into a coherent whole. It went on a little long, but the characters were memorable - I think Electro is one of the few villains I've seen where I'm actually sympathetic towards him because of his life before his transformation, and the reason he started going after Spider-Man and everyone else.
(big, big ending spoilers below)
Spoiler:
Gwen's death was incredibly powerful. The slow-mo of her falling through the tower and Spider-Man diving to save her was really great, and hearing that "THUNK" when she hit the ground just took my breath away.

I'll probably take my nephews to it, as they've been pestering me about it. Can't be worse than when they made me take them to see Daddy Day Camp. If they had a camera at the exit of that "movie", sort've like how they do for roller coasters right at the precipice, they would have put me in a straight jacket and suicide watch right then and there.

I thought it was much better than the Toby Macguire (sp?) films, and I think the general wise-cracking and smart-arsing was much better, very enjoyable.
It probably doesn't help that the Sam Raimi Spider Man movies aren't that old and that they probably cover a lot of the same territory as the Sam Raimi ones to similar or worse effect.

Sam Raimi actually did a far better job at putting the Peter Parker character onto the big screen. This new one does a better job with Spider-Man. If you could merge each, you'd have a perfect dual identity character, but both directors have only gotten half of it correct (Peter Parker does NOT FETHING SKATEBOARD!!).
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Personally really enjoyed the first of the reboots and I'll be seeing this tomorrow. Toby McGuire was absolutely horrible. The first two movies were salvaged by the high quality acting of his enemies and the third was so bad I wanted start throwing stuff
Just my opinion of course

Neither does he do this:
So, I am inclined to say you have no idea what you're talking about or very selective memory.
And the moviebob thing sounds a lot like what I imagine my response to Star Wars Episode 7 is going to be like.

I've blocked that section of the movie from my memory. But having gone back and watched the first one a couple days ago...yeah, that's a pretty damn good Peter Parker. The dance scene from three...doesn't exist. It's just something people created to put on the internet. I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Why would you even bother bringing that up Spider Man 1 & 2 is where the gaks at, that would be like saying all X-men movies suck cause you've only seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men 3 despite 1 & 2 being great superhero movies.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Yeah, that spiderman 3 scene is really bad though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one laughing hysterically at Chaos0xomega for calling me out for "not getting it" when he hasn't got a clue.
If you want to address Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, you use the first two as reference. They were pretty close to flawless in the super hero movie universe. You don't take the only scene that is universally hated that is a huge mistake because the director was forced to do a character he hated and doesn't understand and use it as your example. That's trolling, unimaginative, and frankly it is self-insulting.
I'm still going to see Amazing Spider-Man 2 for three reasons: 1) I have a hot coworker who wants to see it with me 2) I give every Comic Book movie a chance (except GR: SoV) 3) Emma Stone is hot. Done.
But if you actually think Garfield makes a better Peter Parker than Maguire, go back to bed, kid, the adults are talking.

I don't agree with that, Timetowaste.
I reckon Parker as a teenager was well portrayed by Tobey Maguire, but once he moves out of highschool into his life as an adult, he does significantly increase in confidence.
That said, the parts that the movie stuffed up the worst were all Peter Parker bits. They made him too self absorbed and selfish, and not enough of a nice guy outside of certain set pieces that were a little OTT.
But I'm a huge spider man fan, and I reckon Maguire's portrayal was barely adequate.
On a separate but kinda related note I prefer Garfield from the reboot if only because of his confidence. Basically he's a little to cocky for the high school version of Parker still but very much embodies the adult spidey attitude. My issue with McGuire was that he was to whiney and emo about every little issue and then the third movie that just demolished any previous good works
Oh, and I think it needs to be said again, the villains in the first two Spidey movies were excellent. Another thing the third movie failed at.
Granted I haven't seen Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet so I might have a different attitude in about 3 hours when I get back
