Nagash. A very old model from the Undead faction in Warhammer Fantasy.

Not sure. The blade resembles a Witchblade. In fact the overall appearance (except for the head) makes me think of Eldar.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Nagash from WHFB. The equipment is a dead give away. The other give away should be how stupid it looks.

It's the original Necron Lord model from 2nd edition, from before they came with green glowsticks. This particular Lord was aligned with the Imperium - notice the aquila on the signum he's holding in his left hand.

Yes, 40K used to have Imperium slash Necron romance long before Ward came into the picture.

Fixed.

It is also quite well known Morley did a different head.

Spoiler:

From the man himself

the story on the Nagash, model... is this;

It was my first big Multi-part mini I had ever attempted. and it certainly
went through many versions in sculpting. (In those days concept drawing
were very sketchy and I had very little input.) But only one version ever made it to the
moulds. However, there are two head versions the original head was based
on the design that i was given, a more Zombie looking type. And that was the one
that my design manager and I (at the time) prefered. But at that time all miniatures
had to be approved not only by the design studio, but also by the sales management.

This is where it came un-stuck! They did'nt like it, and prefered to have a Skull,...?
Much to my dislike. Now because of release dates and schedules I had one day to put it 'right'. So preffering the original I went ahead and made the alternative. Now, I never thought for one moment thought that they would approve the (laughing clown) skull and would revert back to the original.
The Joke back-fired. And to my horror it was approved and they released it!

Throughout my time at GW I know i made some sculpts that I was not that happy with.
But, Nagash has been the one model that Haunted me all through my time there.
(AND IT STILL DOES!)
And vowed that I would re-make before I left. However, that was never to be.

Or, was it actually a really good idea?

Think of it this way, if nagash had actually been a good sculpt, maybe it would have been forgotten along with most of the sculpts of that era, you know, the old 'it was good for it's time but the XYZ resculpts are much better'. By making it an awful cheesy affair the model got people talking, and joking, and buying the model to paint and play with because it was so terrible (if only for the challenge of making a really bad model look good with a paintjob), as far as GW sales are concerned, as long as it makes money, it doesn't matter whether that is because it's awful or amazing.

That would be Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead. In the ancient days of 4th (?) edition Warhammer Fantasy, Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts were one army: Warhammer Armies: Undead that let you field an amalgamation of them both together. The big kahuna of special characters was Nagash, who I think at the time was just around 500 points with all his stuff. He was a Level 5 (!!) wizard with the Book of Nagash, had I believe an unmodified 3+ save (Black Armor or something) and every wound he dealt with his blade (Mortis, the Great Blade of Death) gave him wounds back; I forget his statline but it was pretty good, I think just about 8s across the board. I still recall some very painful experiences with my Dark Elves versus my brother's Undead with Nagash.

A real nasty customer. One of the most powerful special characters in the Warhammer World in the lore: Not only did he INVENT Necromancy, kill every living thing in Khemri to make them the Tomb Kings, obliterate an enormous army that tried to challenge him (the wastes outside Nagishizaar. his fortress/lair, was basically one gigantic graveyard, such was his power), but the first time he was defeated it took a hero (Alcadizzar) with a magic warpstone sword (that later killed him due to radiation poisoning or something) and the magic powers of the entire Skaven Council of Thirteen to defeat him (and I think half of them died from magical backlash). The second time it took Sigmar, the god/possible lost primarch to defeat him.

I have a Nagash and think he's great, stupid, goofy, but great. I don't understand people who think that changing the head makes a huge improvement. Everything else is equally terrible. He doesn't have a pose as such, he's just waving his arms and staff around and there's little that can be done without significant conversion work, then there's the skulls everywhere, the odd wasp-waist.
