They do if Trish Morrison still works there, but she only sculpts monsters, I think.

I think it's really refreshing to see a well-proportioned female miniature, partially because so many look, as ShumaGorath said, like cheerleaders carrying swords they couldn't possibly lift.

That said, I disagree about this mini here. I don't think this model looks very feminine to me, but I think it's primarily the face. The proportions wouldn't be that bad if the face wasn't so horrible (although I do think they could be better). I do agree that it would still be un-elfish though, and would fit better as a female barbarian type, but that would require some other aesthetic changes, obviously. I don't care for the pose either though, as I said before. The way she's holding the sword in her right hand just looks stupid to me.

Das Wort: umsonst

Im not sure why you think the women portrayed are any more ridiculous then the male sculpts . Both gender sculpted have over all: muscular / fine toned shape

I mean its rare for the main troops ( minus fluff characters ) to be fat flabby or scrawny right? Maybe just an ideal figure is what they are aiming for?

Those links are false, a lie, pie, if there were a sculptor in the world with the ability to sculpt proportioned females he or she would be working for GW...no

Malfred... I hate you. So hard...

I seriously heaved bile into my mouth after absorbing that picture.

You are a bad little man.

Edit: Oh... right, the topic. Forgot about that.
I really think part of GW's issues with females arises from their "heroic 28mm" style. Oversized weapons, hands and heads make for poor looking females, so they oversize other stylistic elements usually. The result looks more like a bad post op tranny than an actual human with two X chromosomes. This isn't universally true, but seems to be a common theme with GW, just as oversized hips and breasts along with a terrifically short torso seems to be a theme with many mini companies.

Personally, I wish GW would get back a little more towards a true scale like they did with the LotR figures. Maybe not all the way, since bolters look cool after all, but I think the old Catachans, Chaos Marauders and many of the Sisters of Battle are good examples of how their over the top style can fail them.

If you put some true scale miniatures next to GW heroic figures, it looks grotesque.

At first you think the true scale minis have all got anorexia, then you realise the GW figures are all on massive doses of steroids and human growth hormone.

Well, obviously for most of the guys here the subject is a bit digital....either its a cheerleader or a she-man with a chin to base jump off of.

What about some of the top dancers out there, and if you think they're not strong then you have no idea! Top martial artists, 100m runners, gymnasts...the list goes on. These women have super fitness, great stamina, awesome strength and absolutley gorgeous bodies....could they lift a sword? yeah, and they could hurt you with it as well.

Pound for pound, sure.

But put that 4'10" 90# gymnast against a 6'4" 400# linebacker in heavy armor and see what happens. If she doesn't get a golden BB to a vital spot, all he needs to do is bash her, and she's out. Give him any sort of reach weapon (zweihander / polearm), and his reach advantage is insurmountable.

That is why martial arts contests are weight classed.

Sure, a flyweight is quick, but he has no chance against a heavyweight.

Yes, but you've picked the smallest female against (arguably) the biggest average male......in the case of mortal combat she'd have to rely on superior fighting ability and agility to overcome him.....believe it or not, martial arts especially the internal styles, we're developed to cope with these occasions, amoungst other things.

But I digress. My point was not about pitting a against b, I'm just trying to give you a different perspective.....that in fact a woman can be at the top of her game, don armour, weild a sword (usefully) and still be able to get you moving in the pant department.

If you want to see well sculpted females in armour, with guns, swords etc then look at the stuff coming out of Enigma miniatures, Helldorado doesn't shy away from decent female action heroine sculpts, Infinity has a wide range of females brilliantly sculpted and of course check out the range from Dark Slave, Tales of War or Tale Revision series.....I wouldn't class these scuplts as cheerleaders or She-ra on steriods.....just well proportioned and convincing female sculpts.

GW needs to stick to wide legged Space Marines and impossibly posed male sculpts....its the best they can manage and we forgive them for it....are there better female miniatures out there? well, thats a choice you have to make.
