"Dreadnoughts have an executioner plasma cannon? News to me."

are you serious? that's not what i said or meant. sorry if i gave you
that impression. i'm trying to say, bottom line, i hope they don't give
it "Get's Hot". even though i would still probably run the risk if they did.

Maybe it should be modeled with a few intercoolers?

having played tank heavy guard for many years (until 5e), I consider most of these leman russ variants to be a waste of time. I dont play tourneys, but our group play all-comers lists, and people use plenty of anti tank. My opinion (and it is just my opinion based on experience), is that even with tank cover saves, LRs are too easy to kill, especially with +1 on the damage chart for AP 1 weaponry, meaning melta is back in vogue, deep striking always being "on", outflanking always being "on", and things like gating seemingly now prevalent with the new SM codex. So I now fill my precious HS slots with artillery (griffons and bassies), and hide the arty out of LOS with a meatshield to deter deep strikers (and an inquisitor with 2 mystics for further deterrent). This has worked very well, and I see no reason why this tactic will not be strengthened in the upcoming IG codex, with its new artillery tanks.

I think it's a bit too soon to be calling that, honestly. We shall have to wait on the actual codex and see.

I heard a rumor that the Executioner blows up if you roll triple ones, similar to the old assault cannon rules. Unlikely to actually mean much overall, but IMO fluffy and entertaining.

LoL. I got a laugh out this thread after I posted last. Some how I think I started this with my question
I wasn't bothered by Kyoto post, I just read it lol.
The language wasn't a problem for me, I know enough french to get bye.
I just didn't see the battle cannon entree, I should have read the arty section better.
All I have to say is some many things to loot because IG are far to weedy for tanks they are like grots
Waaaaaaaaaagghhhh
I do see some of the new tanks, with plasma cannons or gattling gun thing be fun to model and paint. I am pretty new and don't know if they will all be useful in game.
The 20 shot gatling cannonthingy seems like it would work against orks, nids just on volume of fire alone.

All too often recently people seem to be jumping the gun and calling others out as 'trolls' and then attacking them aggressively under the assumption that they are trolling.

I'd like everyone to take a second and read a bit from our Forum Rules (which you can find a link to at the bottom of every page if you wish):

Rule 1: Be Polite
This seems obvious, however many folks can sometimes forget that common courtesy goes a long way to lending respect to both you and your opinions. Just because you don't see the other readers' faces doesn't mean they don't have feelings and won't be hurt by rude comments. When you read something that you find silly, rude or insulting first assume that perhaps there is more to the post than you initially thought. Re-read it keeping in mind that tone and inflection is difficult to convey in written form. It may be that the person is attempting a joke or is exaggerating on purpose. It is best to politely request clarification before accusing someone being ignorant, a liar, or worse.

Before you jump on someone for "trolling", please politely ask them for clarification. If they really are trolling then your polite request will usually smoke them out.

There is absolutely no reason that this thread needs to be repeatedly derailed with personal attacks. Everyone please relax and stay on-topic. If someone is attacking you then click the notify moderator button about their post and/or use the 'ignore' feature to ignore them.

Continuing to needlessly insult other posters further will result in a temporary suspension as you have now been warned.

looking at it's stats makes me wonder if Eradicator, with it's Eradicator Nova Cannon(36"- STR. 6 AP. 4 hvy. 1)
will be the replacement for the Conqueror(48"- STR. 7 AP. 4 hvy. 1)? there has to be something else to make it
worth the drop in stats other than the old move and fire like the Conqueror had, that all tanks have now.

Quick note. AP1 gives a +1 on the damage chart, not +1 penetration. No wonder your tanks are dying so easily........

And my three Executioner turrets are already on order and maybe even on the way!!

For the Leman Russ complaint...I don't think you should call it troublesome or over-praised. I mean, front armor is front armor. So for a round or two you'll be OK, in theory. Yes, out-flank and DS hurts but you should always plan for that to happen and use placement of other units and around terrain to mitigate that.

Appears GW wants to sell a lot of tanks with 5E guard. I want to see the codex before making any decisions. I suppose with how people complain about having to paint so many guard, making guard tank heavy may alleviate some of that issue.

So it looks like the direct only ten LR "Fisting the Emporer" set might still be worth getting then ?

Thought they stopped selling that 10 tank set back in January? I couldn't find it on the GW site anywhere, or the Warstore. Was kinda upset by because I'd been planning to get one, and it was a lot cheaper than buying them individually. Wife bagged one off ebay for me. She got it off bruces_collectibles (or something like that) for 275.

bruces collectibles is a great place to get stuff. he used to put instructions in the orders so you can get direct orders.
real nice guy.

"Appears GW wants to sell a lot of tanks with 5E guard."

i'd love to know if it's going to be set up as each a seperate tank kit(probably),
or just a sprue that gives you the different options for the different tanks?

We may just have to wait and see what the Apocalypto packages are going to be. Certainly if given the chance now I'd buy at least one of all the IG ones that accompanied the Apocalypso release.

GW in the UK was certainly still "fisting the Emporer" in January. Although I don't know if the postage to India would make this a worthwhile investment....

I'm expecting an "Apocalypse Now" package ("Ride of[in] the[a] Valkyrie" anyone ?). Lots of beaches safe to surf, that sort of thing. I can already hear Wagner playing in the background....

That was tame. I was under the presumption that yak was "looking at me" with his warning, so like any chastened animal I slinked back under my rock.

Back on topic: I am really interested to see the points costs on all these new tanks. I have a Fisting the Emperor set that needs building, but I think it is almost a moral imperative to screw around a bit with the different tank types before commiting to which ones I build. I am thinking that the Plasma Death Tank and the Super Auto Airsoft AP Tank will end up complementing each other quite nicely, but it all comes down to the points costs. Not "all of the use", mind you, but cost can dictate SO much whether or not a unit gets spammed or slammed.

looking at the glimpse of the codex, i get the feeling the Eradicator
may not be that great, imho. yeah it ignores cover saves, but str 6 ap4,
i don't know...

"Super Auto Airsoft AP Tank" i know i'm stupid and all but this would be which
LR? i'm guessing the Punisher with sponson heavy bolters.

Honestly rick, that one wasn't you. I looked at it, and I'd drank my glassfull of Special Olympics when I wrote it. I was refering to the 20 shot no AP turret. I think that's the punisher.

doesn't the thought of adding sponsons with heavy bolters to the beast make you drool,
just a little bit anyway?

but the best one (for me anyway) has to be the Executioner with or without the plasma
sponsons! i figured it would get a seriously negative trade off for the 3 heavy plasma shots.

What's the bet the Codex only allows you take Heavy Flamer sponsons.

I know, either the sponsons will limit the Blast Bonanza, or the price will take it all the way up to Ludicrous Speed.

I wonder what the points premium will be for Lumbering speical rule, along with increased Sponson cost to make use of it...

Enough that the ability to take them in Squadrons will be pointless because no one will be able to afford more than what they currently bring anyway.

In other words, with the current costs of Russes the Squadron rule works. Once the new costs hit, whatever we gain from cheaper Guardsmen will be lost in amongst the 60 point Plasma Cannon sponsons, so nothing will actually change. We're not going to be seeing 9-Russ Guard armies as no one will be able to afford it and still bring 1 HQ and 2 Troops.

i feel you're right. it'll wind up costing so much 3 would be impractical points wise.
i have to admit i was so focused on the negative effect oF the 3 heavy plasma shots,
i never considered looking at the price being the draw back. do you think it could also
be a 0-1 heavy option? not allowing a squadron that way as well?

I don't see them doing a 0-1. Not if there's a new model kit to sell in 8-18 months time.
