Thanks for all of the comments everyone.

That song is awesome, if you haven not listened to it click the link. I had never heard it before, so thank you.

I thought about going with the tan hats, but the helmets are pretty clearly supposed to be metal and I didn't think that it would look quite right.

Orkeosaurus, I don't even know what to say. Well played sir.

Should have some more pics up shortly, but I will be away for the weekend so we will see if I can finish some more vets before then.

Probably work

Sorry to jump back to something on the front page, but this just caught my attention. Do you know offhand how your brother made the blade arm on his dreadnought? The sheath is pretty obviously a tank tread cover, but what is the blade?

Assume all my mathhammer comes from here: https://github.com/daed/mathhammer

Hey not a problem at all, any and all comments are welcome. The blade is from Inquisitor: Battle Brother Artemis. This should take you to the GW page - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1060067&prodId=prod1110218

He is pretty expensive just for that, but we had the parts floating around for a couple years.

And here is the progress on some more veterans. I need to pick up white paint, some sandy yellow for the hair, and a lighter skin tone to finish up the rest, I ran out. I am happy with it so far, the plasma guns will hopefully look better with some white added to it. I am done for the weekend and will probably not be able to access a computer until the middle of the week, so I apologize in advance for any delays on my response to questions.

The empire coversions look really cool IMO. Are you going to give them a brown wash? It might make the armour look a bit dirtier/more used, which would fit well with the character of the heads (which also look damn good!)

Nice painting, no problem about the quotes!

Those veterans look really awesome, every man is unique and has a ton of character. The holstered weapons are especially fantastic.

Amazing, I love the look you went with and that Commander and the Vet Sergeant are amazing.

Thanks for all of the input, and hopefully I should get a little further tomorrow.

I really like this idea, and I will try it out. I'll put a picture up on the sight and see what everyone's opinion is. The heads are definitely rougher than the uniform.

Einherjar wrote:Ya your vets look pretty great, are you going to go with the same red for vehicles

That is a really good question, and I am torn between going with the red for the tanks, or black with gold highlights. I would really like to hear some more opinions on this because I am going back and forth. I might try and work a couple of images up in photoshop, but I am not very good at it. It also really needs to be compared to the troops. Again any input would be helpful. Fortunately I need to finish a few more footsloggers before I make the final decision.

This is epic - these guys look fancy, but hard. For the tanks - black with gold & red bits. Bright red tanks look great, but can be difficult to pull off (ive tried!).

Also, recommend the brown wash for some serious depth in the clothes - ive used it on some of my Khorne Zerkers, and really liked the effect. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/43342-Zerker%2C%20Red%20Stage.html for the example I put on my gallery.

I will be watching these guys with interest!

I really like how that model looks. How many washes did you use on him? I have tried using a brown wash on the clothes, and I didn't really get the effect that you did. I am also using Ogryn Flesh, so let me know if there is a different brown wash I should be using. Thanks for the help.

Oh, use Devlan Mud, that stuff is gold-dust, by about 2 pots or more of it, you'll use it quickly! It creates much darker shading than the flesh one

Glad you liked it (although its rated a 1 paintjob and 1 coolness, so you may be the only one!).

I did a base coat Mechrite Red, then a devlan mud wash (which is indeed golddust mixed with pixie dust mixed with equal parts awesome and win), then I did a blood red drybrush (heavy), and topped it off with a baal red wash to blend it all together.

Note that I did this as a base coat so you may want to do your red jackets first (its a bit messy with the drybrushing), then do your pants and faces.

Its a few steps, but Im so happy with the effect I'm going to use it for the rest of my Zerkers.

sweet deal, I will pick up some gold dust tomorrow and try it out. I was going to do some painting tonight, but it turns out somebody offered me tickets to game 5 of the world series, and you just don't pass that up. Go Phillies!

Well, not much to show you, but here is what I have. I finished up the veterans, a few more coats of paint on their face, hair, and plasma weapons. I also finished their bases. I have started work on a few more of the veterans, and the final 2 are ready to be spray painted. Here are the pictures so far.

I went with a few coats of red, orange, and built up to white on the plasma cannons. I am not sold on them, and if anyone else has a better way let me know. I may just need to blend it a little better.

This will be the last post until the weekend, I am going away again. Oh and my hobby store is closed today, so I could not pick up the brown wash, but I will.

Indeed, to make blending more subtle, give the blended colour a wash of that colour, if you are happy with it but just want a little bit of it done then use a thinner wash

Not entirely. The legs and body are from the new empire great sword kit. The heads are from the new chaos marauder horsemen kit (The head for my general is also from this kit.) The arms are regular imperial guard arms, and the various weapons are pulled from all of these kits. I'm glad you like them, feel free to steal any ideas.

Wow that is a really cool converted army! Maybe you could buy some more space wolf heads off BB with the braids. That guy with the braids and the lasgun looks sick! I also like the creativity with the power fist cape dude.

Sorry for the delay, but I have had some other hobby projects going on. I played a game with my orks against tau this weekend, and got destroyed. I had 1 crippled Killa Kan left at the end of the game. I am also working on getting my eldar up on the army profile, which you should check out here http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/The_Bunky_Eldar.

I will hopefully be back to all things Imperial Guard in a few days.

Ok everyone, sorry for the delay. I got a new job, and you know how that goes. I should be getting back into things over christmas break though, and hopefully will be able to continue with the army. Here is my chimera, I got bored with the troops and needed something to jump start my interest. Hope you guys like it.

what do you guys think of this color scheme? I was going back and forth between red and this, but I think this contrasts the troops well.

An all-red tank is more Space Marines.

Go with what you've got, but maybe limit the red and yellow to the sidepod immediately above the forward compensator?

This lets you paint the ID colors on both sides of the tank for army coherency, while not having overly large colored bits that don't match easily tank to tank.

Moore, Ok.

i think that's right.
i personally just use #s to tell the squad, vehicle etc...(512 = fifth co., first platoon, 2nd vehicle).
and i do like the color scheme.
