Nice color scheme. I really like the look you´ve gone for with your veterans, good mix of IG and Warhammer bits.

Ahh, superheavies.

Are you planning to do a fancier paintjob on the baneblade, or will it be black as well?

Nifty sergeant are you planning to count the hammer as a power fist?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Really good ideas here, I like the poses and the feel of the army, could have a great bit of fluff to. I have to say the head and armor combos are great. I know its not helpful now but.... I did like the all White colour scheme, saying that the colours you have gone for look very good on the minis.

Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.

I think I am going to keep the paint scheme on the baneblade pretty similar, maybe a little bit more gold, but it will stand out on its own so we will see.

The sergeant is in a unit with 3 plasma guns, and that has been working very well, so the power fist is not really necessary but I may in the future. Right now he is just weapon and pistol.

I also liked the white, but that got nixed by my brother and friends who are helping with the army. Totally happy with the new color scheme though, so it's all good.

Should have some more painting done soon.

Couple of posts coming up here. The first are some pics of the most recent troops I have painted up, which finishes my first squad and starts on the generals retinue.

This is my lone sergeant running up to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat. My friend had his whole tau army up on the objectives and this guy was able to run up and contest. I think it's cause he is painted.

In that last pic his single fire warrior was actually a whole squad, he was just to lazy to put them on the table after the hopped out of the devilfish. The tail end of that devilfish in the packground had a whole squad of troops in it as well.

These are some pics of all the tanks lined up.

I like it

reminds me i still have 30+ guardsmen, 2 LRs, 3 chimeras to paint and a valkryie to build

I was also thinking about doing a red color scheme, but I didn't have enough at the time, so I switched to black and gray. Too lazy to go to the store

So here is my idea for a second veterans squad. I am going to give the unit flamers, and I am going for a police force, riot control look. I haven't cleaned up any of the conversions yet, but let me know what you think, if you think it works. I tried the skull mask (necron head) a couple different ways and this is my favorite so far. Catachan legs, bretonian men at arms shield, weapon is from dark elf cold ones, hand from empire great swords.

and I forgot the trim on the bottom of the last guardsmen's shirts, fixed:

So my friends think the skull mask/helmet needs work, they are thinking maybe a brim. Here is one (poorly) photoshop idea:

Or this? Sorry for the crappy photo editing. The idea here is leave the helmet the same, and put the mask just over the face.

Last idea, I am thinking a small brim over top, almost like a lacrosse helmet, with the skull as the mask. I would make it out of plasticard and clean up the lines, work it into the helmet. The benefit of this idea would be to keep the top of the skull, which I like.

I'm in favor of keeping the wide brim hats so that the unit looks more like the rest of the army. Since you are using Catachan legs (which don't have the tunic) for this squad, it already looks very different from the mountie theme. Going with a Cadian style helmet just increases the dissonance in theme.

Looks good, I agree about using the same helmets. If you are going to have a CC weapon in the arm don'r forget to model a lasgun slung on the back or someting, just so you actually model the gun on him, or you'll maybe have questions about equipment.

Cheers

Modeled up one with the brim, my friends voted for this way. I am a little worried about fitting in with the rest of the army, but I think it will be ok with a similar paint scheme. My other veteran unit works without the helmets, but we will see.

Your army is coming together nicely. I can't help but notice though that the colors, weaponry, and hairstyles of your force greatly resemble those used in many traitor guard armies.

Maybe it's just the red, black, and gold...

In any case, the Commissariat will be sending someone to keep an eye on you.

Mind if I ask which model the torso comes from? I have a crazy idea for a Royal Palace Guard army... and that fits the bill.

Not at all. That torso is from the empire greatswords box, and it comes with two chest plates with that cross on it. The rest of the squad has other chest plates from that set.

Very nice mix of Empire and Cadian bits! They have a very nice distinct flavor to them that I think guard armies benefit so well from. I'm quite fond of the color scheme as well, definitely identifies strongly with the uniform style.

Your commander is one tough looking mofo! I'm looking forward to seeing him painted.

Keep up the good work!
