I voted for planning to start a non GW army, since my flgs has a few people who play Warmachine, and the models appeal to me - the same reason I play Space Marines in 40K, I like the look of big, sci-fi style armour and steam punk robots. The only thing stopping me from doing is money, or my lack of.

I would play another game if a lot of people I knew were interested in it, and it struck my fancy.

I plan to start a non-GW army soon. I love the 40k setting and won't give that up, but the new Mantic minis and rules (coupled with their prices) looks interesting enough for me to start an undead army. A large undead army.

And the other, non-GW games just don't interest me at all.

wow, im only the eighteenth person out of one thousand three hundred sixty eight that dosent play anything gw at all (anymore in my case). so much for all the people quitting gw after that last price hike.
Kudos to the other forty two percent that has branched out beyond GW, Its always great to just play what you enjoy and not be chained to any manufacturer. I dont play anything GW but I still play games from two companies, right now and I have my eye on that new dungeon explore from soda pop too.
I do have to echo spyder of shifting out of 40k after i tried this quick little called warmachine that was suposed to just be my secondary game.

I don't care much for these other wargames I see out there. The appeal of Warmachine escapes me and I think Flames of War fails to capture the actual tactics of WW2 combat. There's a limit to how realistic you can make a game to the point where it might simply be better to make non realistic games, as long as they are consistent in their realism or lack thereof.

I really only play GW for the popularity it has. Its not as fun when you've only got one or two people to play with. That said, now that I'm into it and I know most of the basic rules and the fluff I prolly won't venture into another system anytime soon.

Yeah, I play / collect quite a few other systems for various reasons. I stopped playing 40k when I was at uni and couldn't afford the miniatures or the rule books as the system changed around me.
Classic Battletech - FASA / Catalyst
I have a lot of mechs, been playing CBT as long as I have been playing 40k and while I took a break from 40k at one point I kept playing CBT all the way through. I probably own somewhere in the area of 200 mech miniatures.
Full Thrust - Ground Zero Games
A great starship combat game. The rules are free and a full fleet of ships can be bought for £50. The game is quick to play and great fun. I have a fleet of about 100 ships now that I have built up over the years
StarGrunt - Ground Zero Games
I have some of these are they're good 25mm scale infantry and vehicles for not much cash. The rules set isn't too bad and free to DL making it a cheep game to get folks into. I have about 2 platoons of troops with vehicle support.
DirtSide - Ground Zero Games
Nice 6mm / Epic scale miniatures for virtually no cost. I probably have a light battalion of troops and support.
Other systems
I have some MechWarrior clicky tech figures from when I plaid that, Pirates of the Spanish Main ships by the bucket, Crimson Skies fighters, Several non-specific 25/28mm sci-fi systems that I've picked up over the years.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Good Lord people - there is an entire universe outside of GW, and even outside of Sci Fi/Fantasy!
Lots of people make stunning 28mm figures - Gripping Beast, Front Rank, Wargames Foundry - the Perry boys are starting to do plastic historical 28mm boxes.
And then there is 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm/1:72 scales....
One interesting trend right now is the rising popularity of the "Lace Wars" - the mid 1700's - and everyone designing and running their own "Imagi-Nations" - tinpot countries with own iniforms etc.
Rules are tending to be the sort of simpler rules from the 1970s (sort of like GW ones really....) by Charles Grant, Peter Young etc

I've not seen anything that tickles my fancy thus far. Whoremachine looks okay, but the number of models is a bit too low for me. Nothing else has really been introduced to me.
There could be a game out there that hits all the right spots for me but I won't discover it due to low availability, cost, lack of players or any combination of those.
I'm not going to go striding out into the internet to find a game so obscure or unknown that i'm the only player (I can't convince people for crap; I wouldn't be able to convince a fat kid to eat the last slice of cake). I prefer to be introduced to them by other people, because then I know that at least someone else plays.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Depends, some are a lot more fun (in my opinion). Some are trash. Many are a lot cheaper to get into. There are historical games covering every period you could imagine. There are various Sci Fi and fantasy games. Many do not require you use figures from the same company that makes the rules.
There are so many different games/systems/figures out ther that your question is pretty hard to answer.

Well, Warmachine/Hordes armies are ordered from Wayland. Don´t know if that counts as started or planning
Since it´s uncertain whether or not I can convince my gaming group to join in it even led to me finding a FLGS I could call so.
Who knows, maybe that way I´ll start even more other wargames.

You, you are nothing but a pretender to the throne. A GWannabe. In my day, dedication meant something.
You SHOULD be using ALL of their products - AND LIKING IT, young gender neutral person.
Are you washing the GW paints off your GW brushes with your GW bottled water (which is actually the distilled tears of the die-hard old-guard whom shed them after reading what GW did to their fluff) in the GW water pot?
Cutting the sprues with the GW sprue clippers? On the GW cutting mat?
Are you using the GW hobby knife? With the blades you can get from GW (by buying a new knife)?
Or the GW "hobby drill"?
