I use to play Battletech long time ago and its getting a starter set again soon. I played an RPG called Cyberpunk 2020 but that died and Shadowrun became the king.

I only collect GW.
But I sometimes use models from other games systems in 40k and such.

I play non-GW fare like Star Wars Miniatures and Warmachine/Hordes.
But lately I'm wondering if I should stick to one game to save money.
nah feth it... I'll just save money by eating oatmeal only.

Wings of War - vastly superior game and game system
Heroclix - similar problems, but fun
Mechwarrior - okay, so haven't collected/played in ages, and it had lots of issues as well, but I did play it
I'd ideally like to get into WAB with Normans, Vikings, or Romans.

...I'll probably get flamed for this, but before I got back into 40k I was amassing quite the HeroClix collection. After about the third expansion (read - nerf-heavy rules changing) I finally burnt out and stopped all TT gaming. Then I found out about the FFG stuff, and it sucked me right back into the grimdark... EDIT: Oh yeah, and I just about forgot about Heroscape gathering dust in my closet... :(

I played some other games in the 90ies, but they all do not exist anymore. On the other hand when I recently got interested again after over 10 years 40k and Blood Bowl still existed and I could use almost all my old stuff. Oh, and I enjoy the setting and background of 40k very much. So yes, GW stuff may not be the cheapest, but on the other hand background, details and availability are things you pay for, too. You may not think much about those things when you have them, but when a game/manufacturer is lacking them you desperately wish for them.
At the moment the only interesting thing I noticed is Infinity, but the first game I watched didn't really impress me very much.

I barely play, but plan to, and I base everything off of how cool it is. Fluff, look, and of course, price. If it will work for what I want, looks good, and isn't a million dollars, I want it.

I have collected the old started sets for Hordes by Privateer Press, and have played the demo of both Hordes and Warmachine. I thought it was interesting and a good game, but my focus is on GW, particularly 40k. A family friend of ours also collects and AMAZING display of historical miniatures from 100 years war, and another I am unfamiliar with. The models are brilliant! I would consider collecting a historical game like that, but my money seems to always end up back in 40k due to the fact that it is a game I play most often with my friends etc.

I'm currently phasing out my GW stuff, so here's what I'm playing now, and planning on playing:
-Flames of War
-Epic: Armageddon (you'd be amazed at how cheap you can get things on eBay, compared to what GW wants. Not to mention all the other 6mm sci-fi ranges)
-Battletech
-Black Powder, ACW (planned with 10mm Pendraken)

I voted that I plan on starting, but it's more like I'm not closed to the idea. I love my CSM, but I get tired of playing the same game all the time. I could start another 40k army, but it's more monetarily feasible to start a Warmachine or Infinity army instead, and would be something entirely different (leaning strongly toward Infinity).

I started with MageKnight and wanted something more. A friend got me interested in 40K and spent a day, or more, talking about it. I spent several years interested and fewer playing. Then I really just got to a point where I wanted something different again and jumped over to PP.
Still like the fluff for 40k but the game just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Like ive said elsewhere on this forum, i've gotten out of the GW monstrosity and play all sorts of different games (they are listed elsewhere on the forum.
I got out way before the last price hike, as i could see what was gonna happen. I desized my collection and sold off some of it, though someone gave me more space marines! Automatically Appended Next Post: Maniac_nmt wrote:Wings of War - vastly superior game and game system

I just started doing 1066 and late roman/persians using the warhammer acient battles.
you can cheap models from italeri or zvedza at 20mm (normally about £6/$10 for 40 figures.) in 28mm theres warlod games romans, which don't seem to be too bad BUT i have noticed huge piles of warlord games stuff on bring and buys at various shows around England. Not sure why but you have to wonder.
The games ok, it's pretty much fantasy without magic. it works well with romans but to be honest warhammer rules really do not work for dark age stuff. it tries to make things regimented that historically were not.

I'd definitely play a non-GW game if I found an accessible one with minis I liked, but I haven't really managed that combo yet.
Ideally I'd love to find a skirmish game with quality miniatures and an aesthetic I like... I'll keep an eye out, but nothing much so far.

From what I've seen, there are plenty of other great miniatures games out there, many of them gaining ground on GW...
Infinity seems to be getting polular at one place I shop...
My wife and I play 40K and Warmachine, I love them both!
I have decided that I must limit myself to these 2 games at least for the immediate future, because just these 2 games have me spending more $$ on hobbies than I likely should be...LOL
I may do a 3rd 40K army, and also a Hordes army, but that will depend on alot of things...
Thanks to all who make Dakka so GREAT!!!
