Would you ever collect a miniature game made by a company other than games workshop?
I'm not interested in wargaming anyway
I've not heard enough about other games or settings
I only like GW stuff due to rules/availability/etc
I have not seen anything I like enough to invest in yet
I'm not even that interested in GW stuff / I'm slowly getting out of the hobby
I am planning to start a non-gw game soon
I already play/collect at least one non-gw game
I dont play/collect anything from GW, only other manufacturer's stuff

Like it or not, GW fans represent a significant percentage of all wargamers, but I was wondering just how many people here have a more diversified wargaming portfolio... Made this multiple choice since a few of the options can apply together.

Are you talking about collecting rule sets or collecting miniatures? They are two different things.

I've been playing a lot of Warhammer Ancients lately with figures from Wargames Factory, Gripping Beast, Gorgon and Magister Militum. I've been thinking of picking up rules for Impetus or Crusader - but a strong showing from GW with WAB v2 in December will bring those ideas to an end.

Me and my brother had a brief stint in Chronopia by Target Games (1st ed., Fantasy version of Warzone) in the late nineties, but no one else took an interest, so we gradually lost interest. I had 2 firstborn characters and 3 warbands, my bro kept it a 2/2 for elves. It was quite an unique setting and a rather good game and the LGS had the stuff in stock but I think only two people bought some (me and my bro).

Have already done so, on several occasions.

In the past:
Target Games: Warzone.
Fantasy Forge: Kryomek
FASA: Battletech, Renegade Legion (tanks).

Privateer Press: Warmachine.
Corvus Belli: Infinity

All of these were done at the same time I was also playing a GW game.

I hear mixed things about Warmachine, but have been thinking seriously about starting it up. The steampunk style minis appeal to me.

My name is Skullking, and I am a gamaholic.

I play Warmachine/Hordes, Monsterpocalypse (which is Awesome!!), AT-43 (Uh.. they have an army of space monkies, no brainer), I have a really small confrontation army. Then of course Battlesystem (RETRO!!), And I have a bunch of Chronopia and Daemonworld stuff, though I've never actually played them. I'm sure If I dug around in my closet I'd have a bunch more as well (Ral Partha Total Chaos anyone?)

Now if I only didn't have to work for a living, I'd be able to game all the time.

I've tried several wargames that I did not end up playing very much of.

I liked Celtos, but could not get anyone else interested in it enough to get past the trial "Proxy minis" stage.

I played Mechwarrior: Dark Age a lot, because no painting was required, but got bored with how fiddly the whole clix thing was.

I'm seriously considering getting into AT-43, but the conflicting news about RE's stability has me on the fence.

Im slowly getting out of the hobby. Maybe ive hit the jaded vet stage, but I only play competitive games I can schedule or go to tournaments anymore. I almost never show up at the LGS for a quick pick up game.

None of the other wargaming universes really appeal to me than GW's and thats the main reason why I have stuck with 'em after fading out from the hobby.

Also imo no other company provides the kind of awesome wargaming mini's that GW and FW does.

I've collected a small FOW US Armored Rifle Co, but not yet played a game.

I've got a ton of angry Celts of varied manufacture and some WF Romans enroute to battle them. Likely with the Field of Glory Rules.

Gripping Beast Late Roman/Romano British for use with Pig Wars rules, or WAB.

Loads of 20mm modern and 15mm modern.

US (Army / Marines / and AF ground forces, as well as SOF)
UK (Army Regulars and SAS/SBS)
African rebels / Middle Eastern Militia and Regular Forces / Soviet Equipped Regular Forces.
Mostly use BattleField:Evolution -Modern Combat for the 20's and AK47 Republic for the 15's.

Small amount of 28mm WWII American Paras for use with Battleground(?) whose rules I love. (Roll a nat20 leadership check for a model and he may go heroic and get all kinds of bonuses).

Some D&D minis, but they were mostly for Hackmaster.
Some SW minis, but modded for BF:E.

Battletech was my first mini wargame, back when I was in gradeschool.

But since first ed Space Hulk, I've been an on again/off again GW fan.

I don't see why anyone would willingly limit themselves to just GW. There are some great figures and rules out ther for all kinds of cool periods and fictional settings.

I have a ton of 15 and 6mm WW2 for example, and there are several rules sets I like for them, covering different levels of warfare from skirmishes to full brigades and divisions facing off. I have 15mm modern and sci fi figures which are just awesome. I have ancients in 15mm and 6mm. The 6mm units with 24 infantrymen on a base look great.

Just my take. GW is a small minority of what I collect, and I'm more likely to use my GW figures with other rule sets than I am to use them with GW rules.

I've long intended to give Flames of War a shot, but GW keeps kidnapping my attention and holding it for ransom.

It doesn't help that the nearest dealer of FoW is on the other side of a toll bridge as well. fething Seattle voters and their heretical $4 tolls on a bridge they don't use in a different county!

Like I was saying, eventually I'll check into FoW.

I like the background and figures for 40k more so than any other games I've been exposed to. But the main factor that keeps me buying only GW stuff is the fact that I can go get in a game with a rather large crowd of people at my flgs. I'd love to get into flames of war, and have put together a small army but can't find anyone available to play around here.

I tagged "I only like GW stuff due to rules/availability/etc" but the real reason is the warhammer 40k setting. Also I believe GW has the biggest chance of the companies to survive in the future (I had bad experience with the Warzone miniature game when I was younger).

My main reason for playing 40k is I can not get enough interest for weekly games of Blood Bowl. Also almost all my gamer friends have at least one army so it is easy to get a game.

I have played and collected lots of other games over the years. However other than MTG few seem to hold a fan base. Then I just end up with another box of junk under the bed.

I've just picked up Malifaux and all the Guild faction minis they've got out at the moment. Got the Ressurectionists coming soonish too.

I'm loving the card mechanic they've got going on. Minis are nice too.

But my group and I still mostly play Fantasy and Bloodbowl.

I've considered other systems, but it wouldn't make sense for me to branch out, at this point. I've invested a decent bit of time and money in starting 2 armies, already, and in finding opponents. Why would I start buying new models and finding new opponents now, especially when I haven't really had the chance to get my 40k gaming into full swing?

There are appealing aspects of many other wargames, be it the cost, the rules, or the models. What 40k has that sets it apart, for me, is the amazing background and the popularity. Why popularity? Well, it's a big segment of the wargaming population which means I can find opponents more easily. Also, it makes it more likely that stores will carry the products I want. And finally, it means that GW is less likely to go belly-up than some upstart gaming company, meaning I won't lose support, updates, supplies, and opponents for my gaming system of choice any time soon.

I have a 40k army (dont really enjoy it) I have a few Fantasy armies( I really like Fantasy). I own A good majority of the stuff for 7 factions in Warmachine/Hordes. I have a fairly large confrontation force. I also have a very large Warlord army (which is my favorite of the lot).

But, I try to steer clear of GW nowadays as they seem to hate there customers and supporters.
